Hi all,

I own a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 10.7 and I actually like them a lot. Been looking around for professional reviews online and found this review in a German hi-fi site:

Google Translate

The link is translated from German to English through Google translate so the English is not perfect. The review seems to be fairly scientific and they are all praise for the speakers:)

For those interested, here's the original German link:

Test Lautsprecher Stereo - Wharfedale Diamond 10.7 - sehr gut

I hope to post my own review once I have my speakers fully burnt in and purchase a good cd player. Currently using an LG DVD player for transport and optical out to my Onkyo 876 (letting the Bur Brown DACs in my AVR do the decoding and subsequent amplification).

Big deal, and i opened the thread expecting thekinge's detailed review!
We want your review, not links!:D

Patience iaudio, patience;) Quite frankly, I am amazed by the soundstage these speakers are able to create and now playing all my CDs again to hear what I have been missing so far and mind you, this with a mass market LG DVD player. I actually went to purchase Marantz CD6003 today but they had only silver - I wanted black:sad: May end up purchasing CA 640c V2, let's see.

I do not want to post a review with lines like "amazing soundstage", "beautiful imaging" etc:) I will try my best to be fairly detailed, which means it will take a while. But I will post my review by second week of June hopefully (if I purchase a decent CD player before that)!

Congrats on your purchase.I am planning for these speakers to upgrade my HT for fronts. Waiting for some detailed user review particularly from our members. For a moment I thought I got it here.Anyways will wait for detailed review.By the way if possible please post pics on our "Post your latest purchases" thread.

congratts.....we will wait for the review, but atleast you can put some light on how much the pair cost.........10.5 were quoted to me around 33K in Delhi a couple of month ago.

thekinge, OK, ok, I will be patient!

Sam9s, I think he had given the details in the dubai deals thread. He got the avr and speakers for some 66k INR.

are these better than the 9.2s ?

maniac_2004, Unfortunately I can't answer that since I did not audition the 9.2. However, I did try the Diamond 9.5 and I would risk saying that the 10.7s are better than 9.5. But then, I am new to this hobby and have not auditioned other speakers thoroughly enough to say that 10.7 is the best. For me personally, it is the best sounding speaker I have heard so far:)

like Iaudio, i expected ur review... oooops... will wait for the same....

iaudio, srinisundar, idlebrain,

My apologies, the title of this thread may have misled you. I will post my own review soon! I will also post the pictures in the "Showcase your audio/video setup" thread soon.

srinisundar,

I had posted the Dubai prices of two 3D TV models in the TV prices thread for you. Hope you saw them.

Thanks sam9s. As iaudio mentioned, I purchased it as a package which included Diamond 10.7, 10.CS, 10.1, 10.GX and Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver. The package cost me AED 5500 / 66000 INR (using the conversion rates at the time of purchase). Later I sold the Onkyo 608 through HFV and purchased Onkyo TX-SR 876.

Wharfedale Diamond 10.7 if purchased separately will cost AED 3645.

The package I purchased is still available but with Diamond 10.6. See this thread. Go to post number 9 for information on the latest deal.

Hi The Kinge

I too wanted black 6002. It is sold only in EU, likewise some Pioneer models in black. Do not go for colour - ultimately you will listen with your eyes closed on many occassions! The Silver does not look out of place with the black amp of mine. You only have to get used to it.

More importantly, the Marantz has better body as compared to CA640v2, I would recommend it over the CA which has great separation but sounds thin in comparison. You may not realize until years later that there was a better choice over the CA that you could afford. Marantz is also more musical. The CA sounds clinical. Please listen before you purchase.

Cheers

Hi gobble,

It is just that my HT area would look a bit awkward with gold colored Onkyo TX-SR876 and a silver colored Marantz CD player! However, you're right, most of the times, I am just enjoying the music and not even thinking about anything else:)

I also like the Marantz. My only worry is that some reviewers have mentioned that it sounds bright - the Onkyo 876 which I am using as pre / amp is also a tad on the bright side. Would you rate the Marantz as bright (my definition - slightly higher emphasis on higher frequencies)?

thekinge, for that matter even CA is bright. Marantz amps(cant say authoritatively on cdps) have pretty airy and open top end. I have heard CA amp and cdp combo with same set of speakers(heard it with primare and marantz set up too) and it did sound bright, though I have to add, I was pretty much ok with the sound.

The Marantz sound will pair well with a tube. I would say It has "sparkle". It sounds great on my setup, I would not call it bright, just right! However adding a Nordost blue heaven IC in the setup made the sound harsh and strident with an energy peak in the upper mid extremes to lower highs. This I tamed using a DIY power chord from a local audiophile Mr. Murthy. Suddenly the frequency balance improved and the fatigue was gone.

So to add a few complications - One may have heard a bright setup and blamed the CDP, but did the listener pay attention to the IC and powerchord? Why blame the CDP? :)

Cheers

May i know why you swapped the Onkyo TX-SR 608 for TX-SR 876. Any specific reason? Were the TX-SR 608 underpowered for your setup? Because i am planning to get the TX-SR 608, with Diamond 10.6, 10.CM, 10.DFS and a Klipsch RW-10d

is the tx-sr 608 powerful enough to drive the Diamond 10.6, 10.cm, 10.1/10.dfs along with a Klipsch RW-10d Sub (Powered, no issues here)? thekinge, why do you swap the 608 for 876, any particular reason?

Subhash, this is prior to shoot out. He sold off the cd6003 to one of our forum members and retained the erc 1. Similarly, the onkyo 608 was sold on the forum while he retained the 876.

The 608 did not have the pre-outs to connect amp so he sold the 608 (to me:cool:) and purchased 876...
