Can anyone please explain me what is this CNC Phonostage all about?

How does it look like?Whats its cost and how do I order?

And why will I use this over a say Cambridge Audio or any other Company's Phono preamp?

Pls revert.

Hi,

It would be a long read for me. In short what I understood is that it's a phono preamp that comes in a wooden box and highly recommended by many here.

What's the price pls confirm.

It does not come in wooden box.

It is a DIY kit that you can buy and then you can choose the box of your choice and budget.

Kit cost can be confirmed by Sachu888,

i think you might need to spend about 4.5 to 5k to build one.

You can build the cnc phonostage with as little as Rs.300/- (with local or salvaged components) or you can go upwards to Rs.2500 if you import quality components. Performance depends significantly on the quality of components used.

Amit, don't scare the people, :D.
Its basic phono preamp build within decent box comes under 2K. This works better and good for MM carts.

After that if someone start rolling costly OPAMPs then each channel OPAMP may cost 500Rs. Priced box may only cost couple of thousand rupees and beyond. All this can not be added to phono preamp price. These are user upgrades to phono stage and could be applicable to any other phono.

If the price is 4.5 - 5k then it is upper side. I made similar one to me and few to friends. It was costed me less than 2k.

It is great to know that you made many of them in less than 2k, any idea when was this. might be the kit could have gone up due to decrease in the value of rupee. I was planning to buy one so did some calculations abt three weeks back. my rough estimate was including the cost of cabinet, power supply, switch, female rca, courier, assembling and soldering.

I don't think this will be of use to me as I am looking for a readymade Phono Preamp rather getting the KIT and then stiching it for myself.Reason being my knowledge on this subject is very limited and while assembling things if anything goes wrong I need to pay a heavy price for the same.If its a ready to use stuff would have been useful for me.

Even I am not a DIY guy when it comes to soldering and all. But I got the kit as many of the forum members have already built it and using it and getting the help from them will not be a issue. I have contacted many and most of them have come forward to help me out with the CNC build.
But if it does not suit you then I think you can go with the branded option.

I have got nothing against it at all.Am sure featurewise its brilliant. But knowing my limitations I won't be comfortable soldering something on my own and putting it in the system.

Hi Jay,

You are from which part of India.

There is a guy in chennai who can do the work for you like soldering and assembling the kit for some charges. I understand many forum members have used his services in the past. then you have to also consider the cost of courier to and from Chennai.

hope that is fine for you.

Guys, I think we need to encourage Jay to build this CNC phono preamp by himself. I believe he has what it takes to be a good DIYer - Curiosity.

I've noticed that since of late, he's asked loads of pertinant questions on various topics across the forum. That clearly shows his interest to learn and more importantly, his trust in all of us.

Jay, once you get over the initial butterflies in the stomach, you can definitely become a good DIYer. I started soldering when I was around 4 years old so its not big deal, you can do some simple practice steps and get the heck of it.

The CNC preamp is a very simple one and the printed circuit boards (PCBs) designed by Sachin and Omishra are fantastic and extremely easy to use. You should give it a try just for the sake of learning, atleast.

Being in the world of hi-fi and not being a DIYer has tonnes of disadvantages. My father always used to say, "never feed a guy with fish, teach him how to fish and he'll never be hungry for the rest of his life".

All the very best.

I regard my Musical Fidelity V-LPS as a 'bargain basement' phono stage, and it cost quite a lot more than is being spoken of here. Suddenly even I am interested in this one!

I've read some of the stuff here. Will talk to Capt Rajesh about it when we meet next which is planned to be soon.
