I have been using a Bajaj Pulsar 150 for the past 14 years, and finally need to upgrade. Have been using the bike without any problems and have been very happy with the performance. The reason I want to upgrade is I want to avoid the hassle of renewing registration, insurance etc.

I was thinking of buying another Pulsar, but have heard/read horror stories about the service at Khivraj (from personal experience at the showroom, the sales staff are very arrogant - take it or leave it attitude)so now I'm considering other brands. Budget - 1 lakh stretchable to 1.5 lakhs. Not interested in any heavy bikes like Royal Enfield.

Also need to know the process for exchange. I am well aware I would get pennies for my old bike which is not a concern.

Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

Don't go for the new Pulsars, you'll regret the upgrade. My friend upgraded to Honda CBR250. Bad after-sales service, old battery in new bike, bad hardware made him go back to his beloved Pulsar 180.

My uncle sold his Hornet and returned to his Discover 100. It's all looks, nothing to upgrade to actually. If you're talking about the hassle with your old bike, it's worth it.

I am a lapsed rider.

My 220 FI lies rusting in the parking below and my kit has not come out of storage for many years. I however follow the biking scene albeit not actively.

I will buy one some day. Vague plans of two up touring.

I've nearly rushed out and purchased a D 390 several times. It is insane. And therefore I want it. Deep sigh.

My usecase (hopefully for now only) is exclusively city, much as I hate to admit it to myself, there is no time really for touring.

And riding a geared bike in the city is a royal pain in the butt

So I am getting a scooter.

Don't smirk please :) I am not one of those activa aunties. Not yet

Just like wheeler mixer-grinder-appliances there is little to differentiate two wheelers in the conomy segment. They are all IMHO extremely boring.

I have decided therefore that I am getting myself a Aprilia SR 150.

You have the power, you have the convenience of no gear, clutch. And it feels like a bike. Schumi (OD) has reasonably nice things to say of it. 14"wheels, discs. About 83K OTR Hyd.

Has anyone exchanged their old bikes at the showroom? What is the process and documents for this? I know I will get a low price which is not my worry, but will they take a 14 year old bike since registration and insurance will expire next year.

I am examining the process to condemn/ sell as scrap two not easily restarted bikes (2006 220 FI and a 2003 activa)

Step 1 is to cancel the registration.

Have contacted a trustworth RTA agent who found my request weird and has said he will get back.

Whatever you do make sure that the transfer forms are with you and that it is no longer in your name

If you are doing it through an agent make him sign the transform form on his name with the understanding that you will not submit it to the RTA - provided he furnishes the transfer papers by an agreed upon date

So you are saying they will not take it in exchange?

Re-registering an old bike is easy if you go through an agent. However, you need to spend some money depending upon the area. Usually the charges are fixed as if you go through any agent you would get the same quote more or less. I have an Yamaha Enticer from 2004 and recently re-registered it again. As Sound Cycle had posted earlier for convenience I have bought the Aprilia SR 150 but still somehow like the Enticer and have been using it occasionally. Earlier I had bought and sold some bikes but somehow I like the Enticer and that is the reason I'm still keeping it.

Can I approach an agent to get insurance as well?

Short list bikes from service centers close to home. It's a boon to have a service center close by. Have you considered the Yamaha FZ25?

Yes, it seems like a nice bike. It's not a power monster compared to its mates in the segment, however, I find it a nicely rounded bike. There is a showroom very close to home and I see at-least 4-5 bikes being delivered every day.

Yes you can. Alternatively you can reach out to any petrol stations where they sell insurance for two wheeler and four wheelers. The vehicle would have got depreciated over the years and will not have any value. You can just go for a third party insurance probably would cost you around Rs.800. This is needed if the cops stop and ask for Insurance.

Hi

If your insurance has lapsed you will have to get a token inspection and photo session. You will get only third party. Go to your nearest new India or anything like that. Will take 10 minutes.

I briefly read the specs for the Fazer 25. No ABS. It was amusing to hear it described as a sports tourer. Does not impressed or interest me.

Should I just get that 390 ;)

Thanks for the info. My main reason for insurance is to show cops :)

I'm a long time Apache 160 user (9 years). My friend picked up an Apache RTR 200 Pirelli edition recently. I tagged along during the purchasing process to test out amongst others Dominar, Pulsars, Honda Hornet, etc. Would recommend you test drive both the Apache RTR 200 Pirelli and the Dominar, then decide, what style of riding works for you. As with audio gear, Audition and go with what feels right for you...

Both are at completely different price points though 1L vs 1.5L.

Is Torq electric motorcycles dead? I thought they are launching a electric bike na ?

For whatever reason most of the electric motorcycle does not have any market after few years. Not sure why but maybe because of the cost of spares or no proper support from government or even lobbying from two wheeler manufacturers. Other factors might be you need to charge it too often and not able to drive beyond a speed of 60km/per hour. Their advantage is eco friendly and no fuel cost but I think the government is not supporting by way of any subsidy.
