I need advice to buy blu ray. This is my choice:

Pioneer BDP-LX55
Pioneer BDP 450
Pioneer BDP 180
Sony BDP-S7200
Sony BDP-S6700

I suppose that the image quality is similar (maybe not?). Important to me is the sound quality with audio CD.

It would be wise to use the player for transport and use separate DAC for audio CD. Instead of 20k on bluray player, 6-7k on bluray player and rest on a quality DAC. For example, i use Samsung BD-H6500 3D Smart Blu-ray Disc Player bought for $115 used from Amazon US using global shipping. DAC work is done by my Pioneer Elite receiver.

I want to have a good player for transport. I know it's better to buy a CD player, but I need it also for video. My first choice is Pioneer LX55. But maybe it is too old compared to today's players. I do not know whether it is better BDP180 because this is the fourth model of the release LX55 and BDP140.
I reduced choice to Pioneer BDP LX55, Pioneer BDP180 and Sony s7200. I know that the Sony 7200 is also very good player.
I have AVR Onkyo TX-NR545 with dac AKM 4458. I plan to buy Micromega MyDAC for a few months.

Hi Mark,

I am using the LX 55 for almost 3 years now and yes there is a difference against the BDP 180. The LX 55 has more connectivity options...hence my obvious choice then

You could also consider the BDP450 which is similar to LX55....

My friend has the Sony s7200 and honestly I did not find it that happening......

Ensure that the BD players are Region free or Region A.

I do not understand what you meant to say with this part of the sentence:I did not find it that happening...

What would be your choice of Pioneer LX55 and Sony s7200 because you have seen both how they work. I am interested in the quality of picture and sound. I know LX55 has its own DAC, analog outputs and that is heavier than the Sony. Sony has a 4K upscaling and also good sound that I have seen in reviews.

The only thing I was a little skeptical of LX55 is that it is a few years older model than sony s7200 and BDP180 but it should not mean anything. For example you said you would rather LX55 than the BDP180.

What about waiting for an Ultra HD blu ray player, now that you have the opportunity? Something from the likes of Oppo or Panasonic might be a sweet deal?

Because they will probably be too expensive.

I need a blu ray player(cause only blu ray player comes with optical out as far as I have researched), but only to play audio cds' as I have mentioned I'll be using it's optical out to source it to Marantz pm6005 which has integrated DAC, so the main purpose of blu ray player would be to play CDs', that's the reason I need best in quality for the budget of 5k to 10k,

Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks!

I think both of them are over my budget and secondly both of them I couldn't find it online retail stores of India

I am using Cambridge Audio CXC CD player which has optical & coaxial output only and is one of the best CD player and gives excellent quality when connected with my Cambridge CXA80 integrated amp.

What would be your choice between Pioneer LX55 and Sony s7200?

Hi Mark1,

I bought the BDP-S7200 from the UK around 8 months back. Using it here in India now for a while. No issues in playing any of the bluray DVDs. Image quality is excellent. It is fast. I bought it for GBP 175 with a GBP 20 VAT refund which is a decent price considering it has a 4K upscale feature which I was looking for as I have a LG 4K TV.

Let me know if you have any specific queries. Would be happy to help you and reply on them.

Regards,

Pushkaraj

How do you rate the 4k upscale feature? Is it able to upscale from a DVD to 4K, with great output?

Hi,

Frankly speaking, I am yet to play a conventional DVD on the player. All I have played are Blurays and 3D Blurays.

Upscaling of Bluray to 4K is excellent. Skin tones are smooth and warm with realistic colors. Images pop out of the screen. Really very happy with the overall performance.

Let em know if you need any further details.

Pushkaraj
