discounting exotic micro beers..could forum members kindly enlighten on the lightest beers available in our country (light from the alcohol and not the calorie point of view)..the sooner we can bring this thread to a close the better...
thanks in advance...

p.s i can vouch for the fact that the right brew can considerably enhance the musical experience..

hi moktan -

a new journey for me!

i will taste all the beers available in our vast country!

- macro and micro -

and at the end of the 2 year bharat-beer yatra =

i will pass judgement! (apart from a lot of kidney juice)

regds suri

this thread will last longer than you think!!

Budweiser from those 'bottled' in India.Carlsberg would be second best.
Singha from Thailand.
Both Singha and Budweiser have a light, clean,'non chemical' taste.
Singha and Heineken are the only beers I drink out of the dozens available in Chandigarh. Also Hoegaarden a white beer from Belgium. You will either love it or hate it.I love it!:)

Single Malts!
(Detest all blended whiskies as they smell and taste like chemicals)
Single Malts are made in single distilleries in Scotland. From malted barley.Water sourced from local springs.Peat wood used to introduce a smoky flavour.Generally at least 10 years old.Older one's are infernally expensive. My local supplier is selling a 30 year Glenfiddich (a brand I personally feel is more hype than substance) for 38000:mad:
Three regions.Islay.Highland.Coastal.
Islay(eye-luh) is the one I like.Small region in the Inner Hebrides.Wonderful peaty flavour, high phenolic content, redolent of the mist and mystery of Scotland.
Brands
Ardbeg
Lagavulin
Bruichladdich
Bunnahabhain
Lapohroaig
Caol Ila
Bowmore
Most of them are available in India in metro's,Duty Free's.Prices for 10 years olds/750 ml. range from 2800-5000 in Chandigarh.Duty free prices for 1000 ml. would be in the 50-70 $ range.
*Adding soda DESTROYS a single malt.Equal portions of whisky and a good spring water chilled in the freezer. No ice.On the rocks,is simply something which has caught on.IMO,ice especially the Indian variety, would ruin a good whisky.
Sip,Don't Swallow!
Cheers:)

offtopic..

but we should have a thread on this as well.. and while I am also partial to the Islay malts, some of the highlands are not at all bad (glenmorangie?) and some speysides--(balvenie, the macallan).

cheers!

Budweiser from me too. during my college days I used to prefer London PIlsner quite a lot, it is still available but lost its charm.

Carlsberg is also good. I still miss 'Miller' , that brand it still not available here.

I started with the 3 'Glens' Glenfiddich/Glenmorangie/Glenlivet but don't buy them anymore.Would rather have the Islays's,Balvenie,Macallan....
Also like the two sour mash bourbons from the US,Jack Daniels and Jim Beam. And a Tequila like Souza(Silver)
Since the thread was about alcohol I thought I would add single malts to it.And possibly old world wines.:)

Cobra beer which is made by a guy of Indian origin settled in the UK. Was made as a beer to be had with lunch so kept light deliberately. Other than that I like Corona. Light. Limited experience since I drink very occasionally. :)

Corona is fairly nice, but check out Singha from Thailand. The smoothest, cleanest, least chemical tasting beer one can imagine.I am sure a tube loving, vinyl spinning globe trotter would love it

and James Bond likes his martinis "shaken" and not "stirred"

@ajay124 - what is your take on martinis?

cocktails - are they a blot? - or, do they hot your spot?

I believe tea, cofee, alcohol is best had with the least possible ingredients.
I believe James Bond is a banal,boring,brit.

I don't get it - whats the point of having beer if alcohol is to be less (light)?

There are two camps of drinkers.
One camp would say that the only reason for drinking is to get a 'kick'.And the higher the alcohol content the quicker you get it.They tend to gulp their drinks as they are in a hurry to get there.THERE being a summit where they feel supremely confident, hearty, talkative and hungry.Music to go with it?Anything,as long as it is LOUD.:)
The other camp would say that alcohol is first about aroma, palate, taste and after taste. They sip their drinks because the journey is more important than the destination. And the high being sought is not a 'kick',but a sense of mellowness,a sense of loosening up,like relaxing in a pool/tub of warm water after a long day, feeling the tiredness drain out of your limbs,a sense of languor gradually enveloping your body, lulling your senses,Coltrane and Miles spinning their magic....I'm getting high merely describing the sensation:)
Obviously,I feel, that I belong to the second camp. But I am not suggesting that the second camp is superior or better. To each his own high...
But I pity the sober one's (not the one's who are listening to their HiFi!) who listlessly watch TV from 7 to 11 everynight.:sad:What an existence!

who listlessly watch TV from 7 to 11 everynight.:sad:What an existence!

and i have seen homes where the television set is central to the existence of its occupants -

the TV has a place of honor in the living room -

and (unbelievably) the TV is switched on while guests are entertained.

it is undeniably sad that in many homes, growing children are missing/going-to-miss the magic world of reading (even comics - commando?) because of TV.

and (unbelievably) the TV is switched on while guests are entertained....

and the conversation keeps hovering and harking back to TV 'happenings'
and the names of the 50-60 politicians, godmen, film and TV stars, cricketers are tossed around as if they were friends, relatives,or next door neighbours
and the latest dreary twist in some creepy soap is dissected and analysed for all it's world shattering ramifications
and the remote does the rounds and every resident sneaks in his favorite channel
and all this to the accompaniment of sickly sweet, milky tea and soggy biscuits
Modern 'civilized':o life is a comedy of horrors.

let us analyze this - if television was not real - no audio-visual spoon-feeding of the wastrel-

what would they do?

go to temples and mosques and churches? - and, similarly, waste their time?:)

Love the generalizations of the general lounge. These days I am spending more time here than in the 'audio' sections.Moktan began this thread asking for light beer recommendations and pretty soon we are discussing single malts and television
Patience Moktan! We'll get back to the beer's sooner or later....
And by the way.Have you tried out any of the suggestions?
