Are thr new yamaha dolby atmos soundbars any good ? Would they be able to provide adequate surround /atmos sound ? Unfortunately as with most brands no demos are available as dealers “ refuse to open expensive packaging “ lol . I am being recommended the 5600 soundbar . Its for 1.5 lacs. Or wid an investment in a proper hone theater make more sense ?

My cousin has yas 306 without subwoofer. The sound quality is excellent. It even had decent and quality bass. But for me sound-bar is a no no. For an immersive experience a proper 5.1 will be way better. First you can set up a good 5.1 and later upgrade to atmos.

Just purchased the ys-108 on Amazon. 4K higher than international price. lets see how it sounds

Hi saurabh...

Yamaha sound bars are excellent. I started my HT foray with a Yamaha YHT-400S, which is almost 6 years old now. It still does duty in my dad's place. And still sounds really good. The Yamaha DSP 5600 that you been recommended is a whole lot more beast than a plain sound bar. As Yamaha calls it, it is digital sound projector. And the web is filled with their positive reviews . Yamaha use their adjustable sound arrays to bounce the sound round the room to get an immersive experience. So most of their performance will depend on your room, rather than the system itself. You need to have a solid wall at the back, and 2 solid walls at the sides. Different distances don't matter. The system will adjust for that. But if you are not cocooned by 3 walls in your place, one back and 2 on the sides, then the system can't deliver as promised. All the best :)

Couldn't agree with you more. The YSP-5600 is indeed a beast. A friend of mine has one and the performance is unbelievable for a soundbar. A few months back, after much research, a common friend got himself Sony’s HT-ST5000 based on reviews and discount. Comparing both, even without a subwoofer, the Yamaha clearly edges out.

I did audition the YAmaha 5600 at a dealer. While the surround and atmos were all good i found that the driver quality used were quite poor . cramming everything together yamaha has compromised with driver quality. Build finish was also not that great.

Can you please elaborate your listening impressions Saurabh, for the benefit of other prospective users. As everything I've read about the dsp5600 online, has been glowing praises of its sound. I wonder if you have heard it in the wrong room, with bright interiors or worse still with glass walls as some shops have. That could actually lead to very bad sound, with lots of reflections.
