Yamaha YHT 299 - Request detailed user feedback

Hey, I am also looking for a good HTS. I am noob (like really noob). I came across YHT 299 and have been reading awesome reviews. I have always wanted to have a tall boy (dont know if it makes a difference, just loved the looks). Also for the rear speakers, will the wire run across the hall ? (that will look messy).

So can i buy YHT 299 and pay more and get tall boys instead? Or should i go for Just AR and custom set up? Also does it have DLNA?

Hii Guys nice reviews but i want to know is YHT 299 VFM in the manner of music well actually i like music more than movies and everyday i listen music (Bollywood, Punjabi, English) so is it good choice to go for 299

What is your budget?

Hi - it's an old post but I am planning to buy the same YHT 299 and have this question

1. With iPOD, how do you Browse the library ? Does it show the Artists/Songs etc on the TV (with HDMI) or something ? Because when the iPOD is connected there is no control on the iPOD itself.

2. Does it come with 1 long cable of 20 mtrs ? And we can cut it as per the requirement ? Or does it come with individual pre-cut cables... I need to get the rear speaker wires to go through the concealed wiring of my house so want to know if I need to buy wires separately or not (it needs about 20 metres of wires only)

Thanks,
Simanta

I think you can browse the Ipod library on the TV Screen. Also the wire is a single long wire of 20 mtrs. but if you own the house and want a long term wiring I would suggest buy some good oxyfree cabling of 30 m or something so that you dont need to cut and join if you fall short..

Yes, you can browse playlists on ipod from the Yamaha remote and you get the display, albeit a small interface , on the connected TV . You can also see the song name on front panel of the AVR.

Hi Sdatta

Did you buy YHT299?
Is that available now? If so what's the price and where did you find it?

Am also planning to buy one.

My choice basically 60% movies and 40% music.
Listening to music I give more preference to vocals than bass. Hope this is a fair choice

Thanks
Sujith

Thank you both for the response. The iPOD browsing works like a charm, and I have got internal wiring done with the cables that came with the home theater.

However, I am not very happy with the clarity of the subwoofer sound. I find the bass notes to be vey muffled and boomy as opposed to be clear. I am using the standard crossover frequency of 80 hz, and all speakers level = 0.00 and distance as actual. I have tried the YPAO setup also, but it made the subwoofer level -6.00 and normal speakers +4.5 (so a difference of about 10) and with that the bass notes are completely gone and not audible at all when I'm listening in low volume music. So I made everything back to 0.00 (i.e. same level). The speaker types are "Small" and the extra bass is turned off (you can't turn it on without speaker size set as "large" anyway). The subwoofer is kept beneath the LED TV, on the Entertainment Centre cabinet (about 3 inch above the ground level)....

How can I make the subwoofer to sound more "clear" as compared to the fat muffled sound? I know it's hard to explain how the sound is and how do I want it to be.. but I am hoping you guys know what I'm talking about and guide me with some setups. I would appreciate if you can let me know your setups so that I can verify mine. Thanks

I think the subwoofer placement is causing the bass boomy as it is inside the cabinet. You can try placing it out in floor and experiment. Also adjusting the sub level.

Hi gangasjith

this Sunday went to Oberon and did the Demo. it wasnt that impressive. played a song from my mobile. but the same when played to a SONY HT DVD kept adjacent to this YHT, it produced much better sound. when asked, the salesman told the speakers of YHT isnt good enough. HTIB is just a saver pack and AVR will perform only when connected to good Speakers like tower or bookshelf.

so now little confused.

I changed the Subwoofer position to be on the floor but it didn't help.

I have now made the following setttings and it's a bit better, but still the subwoofer sounds a bit muffled for my taste

1. Subwoofer level in the physical knob at the back, 40%
2. Subwoofer and Front Speakers all 0.00 db on Audio "Levels" in Setup
3. Tone control 0.00db
4. Equalizer for all speakers, bit high up in mid level and treble.
5. The distances are all in actual.

Can you guys pls share your setups ? Is there something I'm doing wrong

Could anyone please tell me which is the best suitable wall bracket for surround speakers? Not able to find one in Bangalore. Thanks very much in advance.

Hi RR2706
I don't know about best, but I am using Tonos set of 5 wall brackets for my Bose AM 10 surrounds. Got it from ebay and the quality is extremely good, rigid and versatile so that it can be used for most of the speakers available in the market. Check it out on ebay.
