Today bought from a Guy who had about 350 LPs and 200 EPs.

Over the phone didn't sound much like what he turned out to be.

In 350 LPs of his, guess what it did spill...

The Wall Pink Floyd
Beatles
The Police
Donna Summers
JAWS - OST
Western Movie Themes - (Has score from The Dollar Trilogy)
George McCrae
ABBA
Paul Anka
The Savages
LIPS Inc.
Petula Clarrs
LOBO
Baccara
Saraswatichandra
Barsat ki Ek Raat
Anari
Carvaan
Mausam
Shaan
Heeralal Pannalal

I didn't know about the English LPs, I bargained so hard with that guy that literally feeling guilty after having found such gems. I mean the covers are like new, sharp edges, shine n all. Maybe best purchase I made ever, though it hurts my conscience
so bad.

But what a purchase........so many pancham numbers and the holy grail, Pink Floyd.

Its always a pleasure to score. In the middle of these TT plinth builds, I managed to score 40 LPs, from an Anglo Indian family in Kollam, mostly western classical stuff. Interestingly the records were played only about once or twice before the owner passed away (in 1965) and the old lady (his wife) had these in a trunk, all these years, in memory of her late husband. Her passing last week, found his records and radiogram, a new home. More on the radiogram piece later :)

Bought these today. Some are in mint condition and some are not. But for 1000/- these are good I guess. Let me know if I wasted my money :)

Hello Friend... If you like the albums just enjoy it. Used vinyl pricing is always subjective and depends condition, place of buying, quantity etc..etc. As per me for a good condition vinyl LP up to Rs.150 is ok. Above this I will pay only for rare or highly regarded albums.

I feel the price you paid was somewhat ok. You may get little cheaper in Kolkatta.

In general if you not comfort with the price for a particular album just wait for it, look around and one fine day it will come on your way. Two years back for a particular album one person asked me Rs.700. I was ready to pay 400 on that day but he not given. Last June I got the same album for just Rs.60. :)

@Selvin Thanks. Can you please send me the address where I can get the LPs cheaper in Kolkata as one of my friend travelling there this month. I can ask him to pick up some for me :)

Selvin is right. There is no fixed price point for vinyl. There are many dependencies but according to me, the most important one is how badly you want to have that particular record. Personally most of my vinyl is donated, gifted or at times, bought at between Rs.50 and Rs.100. Apart from a select few new records and personal favourites, I have never bought expensive stuff. However, when the record hits the table and starts to play, the spend on them becomes irrelevant to me. But yes, I believe one must always keep an eye on the spend. You'll end up with better bang for the buck!!

Just curious !!

How much you paid for all those 350LPs?

Did you buy the entire lot

Guys,

I am looking to buy Marasim LP but it is showing as Sold out on all the online retailer websites. Does anyone have a spare copy or willing to sell?

I am visiting Mumbai in third week of October and ready to pay the original price for the same plus shipping if required.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah Simon, had to buy entire lot as he was adamant about selling everything in one go. He was so anxious to get rid of the records that I was confused and suspicious at the same time. But turned out that it was his uncle's collection and his uncle's migrated to US. And this guy needed space so it was a deal of decade for me.

Amount paid is 20k and I'm sure it's worth at least double that. :yahoo:

Cheers

Today I got a Double Album

Tommy - The who (Original Decca pressing)

I also have Quadrophenia and its awesome as well!!!! (Also a double)

I think the NEWEST material I like from the who is thier 1981 album titled "Face Dances" which I have on cassette........

Some bands were good in the 80s but some were good earlier and THE WHO was insane from when they started thru the 70s!!

Etnica - Live in Athens 1996 (3XLP) from DAT records and
Juno Reactor - Golden Sun from the great east from Metropolis Records !!

Two gems :)

Marvin Gaye - killed by his own father. Sad.
'Whats going on' is sought after vinyl.
Regards

I got
1.The Instruments Of The Orchestra
Arranged, Presented and Accompanied by
Sir Malcolm Sargent
2.Deepika (Kannada Non-Filmy Songs)
3.Nityotsava (Kannada Non-Filmy Songs)

Lucky chaps, Kollam is my native and I never found any

In Kollam, there was a significant Anglo Indian population from the Thangassery area and almost all house holds back in the day had huge record collections, valve radios and radiograms. These were staple in any Anglo Indian house hold back in the day. Although most of these collections are long gone, either given away or purchased by enthusiasts and dealers from in and around Kerala, Bangalore and Chennai, there could probably be a few of those collections still around. I got my lead through one of my mom's relatives from the area. We also happen to be related to the family who donated the collection.

Interestinly during my last visit to Mr. Kuruvilla's place, he showed me a shelf of records which are for sale. I spent hardly a minute or two flipping through some of them, as I did not intend to buy but did notice the name of a gentleman from a prominant Thangassery Anglo Indian family on the cover of one of them. I myself once got a few records from as far as Mumbai and when my mom was looking at the covers, she recognized a Tangi family mentioned on it.

Here's a small write up on Thangassery: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tangasseri
