Maximum DIY contents in the whole rig and never sounded this good….

No feedback and dual monoblocks sounds like a great recipe for awesome sound
Pure Class A operation too…

Setting up a test bench. More precision instruments to be installed soon on a separate desk.

Already tested EL84 SE, EL34 SE, 6GB6 SE, all class A, no feedback. Next in line is 300B SET:

Things are turning up quite exciting ! All amps will be tested.

That ultrapath one that sits on a stack of diodes? Cool. Those UP caps are touchy and I was never happy with anything but old ASC motor runs (still oil, not wax) which got insane big for the high C value and even then wished I could try better boutique jobs. It was just all too much & too big for a one-tube pre (and still having phono pre!)--gave it up and threw more gain in the front of the amp with one more supply rail RC and bada-boom :) One of my many educational dead-ends that were fun when working crazy-hard to mix "seasoning" parts was fun. DC heater, too er no? Just wondering, no need to answer if it's all double top-secret. Congrats on another build--that's a lot of hole-punching and burr-filing, man :)

Above is tube rectified and no diodes and no motor run caps and not even higher microfarad MKP caps (though I have stock of EU made 100 grams MKP high voltage caps too) Only high quality electrolytes and loads of them but multiples of moderate values bypassed by some high quality low value mkps….

I like my builds to be dead silent and AC heaters on the amps and DC for the preamps. The other version of this preamp is transformer coupled output, again a Jack Elliano design.

Third is my own design and is a DHT, rectified by a DHT.

Yes, one phono pre is nearly complete and two more designs are planned and may be one SS Phono Pre based on Germanium transistors.

It's quite easy to design a tube amplifier or any linear power supply if you learn how to use PSUD2 to design. Otherwise it's a nightmare.

OK -- do I win if I guess your next thing is an outboard clock for everything :)

Just fooling...congrats on the stack and thanks for posting. Carry-on.

Nope. That’s an expensive affair and kind of rabbit hole. I keep things simple. The laptop is already optimized for audio by the FM, we all know. Regular tweaks have taken the playback to another level.

Next could be balanced R2R and I would look at the possibility of replacing the opamps with Tamura Output transformers, 600:600.

Latest build. EL84 PP, 5U4G tube rectified, 6SN7 at driver, no feedback. Interstage. Total 8 number of iron, 5 under the chassis. 9 watts per channel. 4, 8, 16 ohms. Dead silent. PSA-2N Electra Print Audio design. All iron handwound by Kolarkar Audio. Awesome tonality.

Wondering what's the bias current? Looking st the tube glow it looks high to me. In my designs, my tube hardly glows due to very moderate bias current. This helps in tube life.

It’s perfectly fine. Clicks in dark are over saturated and are reflecting further from the chassis.

Check online for Jack Elliano design, PSA-2N EL84 PP by Electra Print Audio. Design is well done and measured. I am yet to measure all parameters in mine. It’s too good to stop playing and revert to full measurements.

EL84 is called “Queen of small bottles” for a reason !

Next stint:

Upgraded power supply of Darlington Labs MP7 phono preamplifier. Changed caps to Nichicon KZ Muse and a special core low noise power transformer sits on the top. Finger jointed sheesham wood chassis.

Sounds dead silent and musical and a big step up from the stock model.

Turntable is belt driven Kenwood with classic 700 cartridge.

Which interconnect cables are you using?

View attachment 90491
These are branded cables of a friend, like 25-30k a pair which had transit damage at the terminals. I resurrected them, changing all four terminals and tried them.

However my personal favorite are PA cables, some 10 pairs bought from US 15 years back. A friend has now three of them and he loves them over any other he has used so far.

I wouldn’t look for any other, ever…

Will share pictures.

I could not find the details I was seeking. If you have measured bias current then let me know. Thanks.

For each tube about 310 volts at plate and 36 ma. Still a little under biased for me. I use non inductive resistors so looking for the appropriate values.
