Hi all,
I had a 12 gb mkv file which i wanted to play on my sony bdp s370 player. I used mkvtoolnix utility to partition the file to fit into a standard dvd of 4.2 gb of size. I tried playing these 3 mkv files on vlcplayer on my hd laptop. It played ok. But, once i burn them into 3 dvds and tried to play in my bdp, it didnt play ..a light pink screen came and it was stuck.

I had another 4.3 gb single mkv file of toy story 1, which i copied on a dvd, and it played great on the BD player. Although it starts with a warning "sond cant be played" both video and audio was great on dvd playback.

Has anyone successfully converted a large mkv into smaller files and played on Sony S370? let me know the settings used in ripping the same..

Thank you.

You can use the "TX MUXER 1.10.6" to import mkv file and convert it into avchd dvd
(m2ts file) so that it can be played in most bd players. There is also a splitting option where you can split the file to play in normal dvd.......i will play the file today on my bd 370 and post the result......try it......

I tried the mkvtoolnx but the split files cannot be played by all players........

Thanks deba, even another user complained of this when he split his mkv file using mkvtoolnix in another forum.

Let me use the tool you have suggested to convert to m2ts and then split it using the same tool.

Thanks

The m2ts file created by tsmuxer is playing in the 370 but the aspect ratio changes to 16:9 as the original film aspect ratio is changed by Ts Muxer.......How to retain the original aspect ratio?
This chnge in aspect ratio is a general problem found in other forums.......

A general problem of splitting any HD file and changing its format is - it changes all the original aspect ratio to 16:9.......try to find the solution to it....

I am not so sure about this. I had 7.5 mkv bourne ultimatum movie. I had it split using mkv2vob for PS3...and there was no difference at all. I concluded this by comparing the split file and streaming the mkv file using PS3 Media Server. Ofcourse, the display was just 32 " tv. I am not sure about large screens.

I have split 9gb mkv file using mkv2vob and played it in both sony s360 ans s370 player and both the players are changing the aspect ratio to 16:9 but the same file plays ok in vlc media player.......where is the problem ??...kindly discuss....

In the player's video settings...you might have the display set to 16:9. Usually there will be options for letter box and pan something along with 16:9 ....try finding out that option in those players..and see if you can find something equivalent to "Auto" mode which will output native aspect ratio..I can only think of this as of now...

Vlc will inherently detect the aspect ratio of the video and output the video in the native aspect ratio. Using Vlc also you can also enforce 16:9 on non-16:9 videos..

OR

you could simply open the mkv file with vlc and press ctl+j which will give you codec info of that mkv file. Here you can see display resolution.

Hi deba and folks,
I used tsmuxer and split the 12 gb mkv file into 3+gb m2ts files (3 files). If i play them on my sony bdp s370, the video seems to be smudged..like a negative film on a analog camera..
Can you please give me a step by step procedure to split this file?

I even followed the suggestion offered by Neil in his site
How to Split Videos into Multiple MKV Files (Without Quality Loss)

But, mkvtoolnix split files just refuse to get played on sony bdp s370... :(

splitting mkv files with mkvmerge 4.2.0 is of no use since it becomes a truncated file and is not playing in standalone blu ray player and nor can it be imported into tsmuxer for conversion to avchd.

For avchd conversion the files should not be more than a single layer dvd otherwise it cannot be played in standalone blu ray player..........there are no software to split a single large mkv and make multiple avchd disk out of it while keeping the aspect ratio intact ?? 8-((

Usually..tsmuxer will take any mkv file you throw at it except it doesn't has some strange unusual codec or the mkv file itself is goner.

in my case...had few movies exceeding 15gb....except 3 or 4 others weren't working out with tsmuxer.....

The problem was with version 4 2 2 of mkvmerge gui ...I have used the old 3 0 0 version and now the split mkv files are playing in my blu ray players.8-))

The problem now is with aspect ratio as a movie with 2.35 AR is filling my 16:9 screen , so I have to add black borders to it - How do I do it to maintain the 2.35 Aspect Ratio ??

i had split a mkv file into 2 using mkvmerge, i am able to view it on my system but i do not get any response on the sony bdp s370 player.
it recognizes the file and i can view it but when i press enter on the file it just hangs...
any suggestions???

@adit1329

welcome to the club...:-). i too have the same issue. actually as someone wrote it here, its issue with the parent mkv file. after splitting a 12 gb mkv file, i couldnt get it to play on s370 bdp, while the same were played perfectly on my laptop.
i had a small mkv file of about 300 mb, which i split into 3 100 mb mkv files. i was able to play all of them on my sony s370 player without any issues.

Yes, as deba pointed out, they play with 16:9 format.
Looks like i have got to get a mkv converter to dvd9 dvd tool to rip this 12 gb movie.

How to keep the original aspect ratio ? All movies are converted to 16:9.......
