I searched for any reviews on the Philips BDP7500 on HFV - no luck.

I have heard good things about the Sony 370 - just curious if any one has any reviews on the Philips.

Saw an offer from ezone-online (again!) for 12K for the Philips today ...

the 370 is an entry level player; the 7500 is in the midrange bracket. there was a what hifi review where it got 4 stars.

having said that the 370 is pretty much a game changer in terms picture quality at the entry level and if your receiver has an hdmi in - then the SACD capability is a bonus. if you have a an hdmi reciever - choose the 370 IMHO.

if you have a "legacy" reciever (no hdmi) then the multi channel analog output of the philips can allow you to still enjoy hd audio

for feedback on service; you'd need to ask others

I too am interested in the Philips player as I am looking for a blu-ray player with 5.1 or 7.1 analogue outputs capable of decoding movie sounds like Dolby TrueHD, DTS Master etc. The reason is that I can continue using my old surround sound processor as just a preamp. Players like Pioneer, Oppo etc with multichannel analogue outputs are very very expensive whereas Sony, Panasonic, Sharp etc don't have the outputs. But Philips India website says its player is coded for region C (Blu-Ray) and region 5 for DVD. Any idea whether it can be made region-free at least for DVD? Or, are there other players fitting my requirements? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

hi
Most modern BluRay players would typically have the DVD function region free and BluRay region locked.
While the DVD function can be made region free relatively easily, the BluRay function would typically remain region locked..
India is BluRay region C ( I think)... so in case you buy BluRay from US they won't play (unless they are multi region BluRay discs which is rare in US but not in India).
To get BluRay region free you need mod kits... this is a hardware card that needs to be soldered into the player.. this will most certainly nullify your warranty with the manufacturer...
hope this helps...

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
