Da-Lite vs. Grandview....?!?

according to me it should be atleast a minimum of 18" from the ground for comfortable vieweing, plus you also need space for the center dpeaker..
If you plan to sit on a sofa then the bottom of screen preferrably shouldn't be below the chin level
it's manual pulldown Model C non CSR.

good to meet you to buddy.... :) let us know your impressions on the high power.

guys,

now that i've ordered the screen i'm wondering at what height i should install it....

how high should i install the screen from the bottom of the floor to have a comfortable viewing over a 2 hr movie ?

i don't want to be looking up at the screen i would rather have it at eye level. So considering my ceiling is 113 inches and while sitting/lounging my eyes are at 37 inches from ground...

110" is about 54" x 96" height x width.

At what height should be the bottom most part of the screen ?

screen installed today by guys from ARN Delhi. It has been a very pleasant experience dealing with Mr. Chopra over the last month from ordering the screen to delivery and installation.

I must say the service provided was exceptionally good and the installation was done to my complete satisfaction and as per my requirements.

I whole heartedly recommend ARN systems for audio video services.

Cheers.

Can't comment on their service, but their prices are absolutely ridiculous. For the 'Dalite Model C # 79041 - 119" 16x9 manual screen' I was quoted a price of Rs. 47,840. This is a screen that should not be priced any higher than approx. Rs. 28k - 30k. Even more importantly, I was given two different quotations, with a difference of Rs. 10000, by two different people at ARN. Personally I would be wary to deal with them.

By the way, for the price quoted by them, one can get a Motorized 16:9 120" screen from Optoma.

PS: I have attached the quotation (pdf file) sent by them.

Sanjay,

You have a lot of experience with audio video. It's interesting but I've realized in life that I can have a different experience than you and an another person can have a different experience than both of us with the same object/person/organization at different points in time.

I had got quotes from around 8-10 dealers across india and ARN infact offered me the best price, they also gave me free air shipping from usa to delhi ( others were charging extra for air freight 10 days delivery or a wait of 45 days for free delivery via shipping through sea )

I remember when my screen had first arrived at their Bangalore office, Mr. Chopra who sits at the delhi office and with whom I've been dealing with since beginning called me up and said...

"Sir your screen has come to bangalore. How soon do you want to install it ? If in 2-3 days then I can get it flown in from there or else if you are not in a hurry then I'll get it from there by ground transport."

Anyways I was gonna be out of the town for 2 weeks so I told him to take it easy and get it by road.

They always kept my interests first and really made me feel like a valued customer.

They also gave me free installation and their boys spent hours in my house setting up my screen and projector to my complete satisfaction.

I think that's a lot of value given there and besides all this the attitude of ARN from beginning till now was always of gratefulness to me for giving them an opportunity to serve me.

So i can say in my opinion their pricing has been spot on and their customer service has more than exceeded my expectations.

Cheers

Yes, you can. It would depend on the kind of housing it has currently. You can also get rid of the current housing and replace it with the motor assembly.

In my case the projector has a trigger facility so i do not require a screen remote. The screen automatically rolls up or down once the projector is on or off. Please check if you have the trigger option.

I too wanted to go for a manual Da-lite screen but with a lot of thought i eventually went for the motorized screen.

Guys at this price range 40-50k are the drop down screens tab tensioned? I have an elite manual pull down, and during the monsoon humidity, I do notice the screen gets wavy. In my next upgrade I am considering a perm wall mount, but because my room will be dual purpose, there will be some acoustic treatements on the screen wall, so my best option will be drop down but with tension on the screen so it remains flat.
Cheers,
Sid

Guys, I would like to know more about this problem before I take the plunge.
Screen getting wavy during monsoon - Is this a common problem? Do manual pulldowns ever have tab-tension functions built it.

Just bought a 120" Optoma Motorized screen for Rs. 40,000/-

Congrats :)

My Model C does not have tab tension. But due to the fact that it is a High Power it has the ability to show absolutely no waves at all. When i pull it down it might show a few waves but once an image is projected it shows no waves. But besides no-waves it has many other benefits. For more on Dalite High Power, read here....

read above reply to sidvee.

@rana_kirti
This is interesting. I am confused about one thing though - grey screens & high power/gain screens are exact opposite of each other. Right?
Even with "no gain" screen, many people see so much light reflected from screen and such poor black levels that they regret not buying grey screen. Wouldn't a high power/gain screen increase this problem tenfold?

well i haven't used my projector with a grey screen so i cant comment but from what i've read, although gray screen improves blacks at the same time they also make the whites and other colors dull. Also i believe gray screens are more suited for rooms with a lot of ambient light.

In my personal opinion... Good to excellent black levels are not so much the responsibility of the Screen but more so of the Projector. Buy a Projector with Excellent Black level performance and it'll give you superb black levels regardless of what screen you use.

the real benefits of the high gain screen are mentioned in that link. For me personally it makes it look like a 110" plasma rather than a 110" screen. The colors are so vibrant and rich and it also has pretty good black levels too.

Thanks for the reply! One more thing - Where did you buy your screen from and how much did it cost you? If imported how did you get it shipped?

it was about 42k after taxes. Da-Lite Model C 110" High Power 2.4

I got it from ARN Systems Delhi. It took about 2-3 weeks from it being ordered to delivery to my place.
