Hi all,

With respect to official warranty period for Denon & Marantz Products officially sold in India, I have got some clarification from representatives of M/s. D&M Holdings India, the company behind Denon & Marantz, whom I met absolutely by chance at a Distributors Premises last week.

They confirm that Denon & Marantz Products sold worldwide are issued a 1 year warranty. When I informed them about certain dealers offering 3 years warranty on Denon Products in India, they were surprised to hear of it & were wondering how could this be possible when the company themselves only provide 1 year warranty!

I felt that this must be clarified in our forum for the benefit of all of us.

The international warranty for JBL is 5 years, but in India they are offering only 1 year and also many other products have 3-5 years warranty abroad but only offer 1 year warranty for Indian customers. Everybody is taking us for a ride and these guys are no exceptions

The Distie has taken you for a ride Indian style ... :ohyeah:

I thought it was common knowledge that its 3 years... anyways .... you lost a chance to spit in their face ... sigh! ;)

@Denom:

warranty for denon and marantz is given for a period of 3 yrs in US, Singapore and Hongkong

i have few product from hongkong and US with 3 year warranty

i feel that D&M is not updated among themselves....

You are talking about warranty offered in those countries, whats the point when you have those warranties that are not covered in India??? I have just said what I heard from the D&M reps. Now will take up this matter with them & see what they have to say.

Rahul,

suggest you read my post carefully. D&M reps have confirmed about the warranty, NOT THE DISTRI. Quick to jump the gun as usual:rolleyes:

Can you check if it is an international warranty? I.e. If the product is bought from an auth dealer in Singapore, is the warranty valid in India? If so, where does one go for warranty support?

I think I know what the answer will be. Just hope I never need it, as I have a bunch of their stuff.

In India the Distributors dont know what is Worldwide warranty:rolleyes: Many products have world wide warranty but the Indian distributors are not ready to support. One Company I admire reg the Worldwide warranty is the BOSE. I Purchased a Wave radio in USA. It was a 110v and after my return to India, I plugged it direct to the wall socket and the unit went kaput. I sent it to the bose service in chennai and they asked for the bill , which i left somewhere. I gave then the copy of my Credit card statement and they took it for service and did the job free of cost. Will the Bryston Distributor do this if my amp goes kaput:mad:

BTW In case of WD TV ,there was huge descrpancy about information received about Intl warentee on WDTV bought from abrod. Company representaive ,whose no was featured in ads told me over phone that there is no such thing as intl. warentee and how come I expect such. When I told about apple and hp who honoured such warentees he told me that it is not possible. When I told I had expereince of HP intl warentee service he did not say anything.

Now WD service centre told me that WD honours intl warentee .

One of our forum member got replacement of his WD TV which was bought in US

SO THERE MAY BE DELIBRATE MISCOMMUNICATION FROM COMPANY. OR THESE BUGGERS MAY NOT KNOW....I have seen quality of staff declining for many companies..

I have no personal experience but here is something that might interest you. I had found this link a few months back when I was thinking of buying a Bryson amp and had similar doubts:

AudiogoN Forums: Need help/advice from Bryston owners

That thread made me seething mad!! Who is this distie/dealer in New Delhi? I will make sure nobody in my sphere of influence ever walks into their showroom or deals with them in the next 20 years. Bloody shame!

Hi Guys,

You may be interested to read of my experience on Marantz warranty as applicable in India. I purchased the MCR 603 in Singapore earlier this year. It began malfunctioning about three weeks back. Took it to Decibels - the Marantz global site lists Decibels as official service center. Decibels clearly said that products purchased abroad do not qualify for repair under warranty (my unit's under warranty till March 2012, but I guess the warranty is useless now). So I agreed to pay up.

Decibels took three weeks to tell me that the fault is in the power board. Since they haven't sold this system in India to date, they don't receive its spare parts, nor have they serviced it. So understandably, they took more than the usual time to find the fault (and I sincerely hope that's the only fault).

Basis this, they asked me to speak with Marantz Singapore to get the Power Board, which, Decibels believes, is the source of its malfunction. I contacted both the Marantz Singapore office and its Singapore service center today. Received a reply from the Marantz office (D&M Holdings), which clearly states that repairs in India will be done on payment for both labour and spare parts! And that's not all. Any service center in India will have to buy the spare part from Marantz in Singapore. Which means that even if I were to buy the spare part in Singapore - which is where I purchased my unit, and hence the geographic territory of my warranty - I will have to pay Marantz Singapore to procure the spare part!

I have written back to the customer-service executive, stating my case and why I should not pay for the spare-part if a friend of mine can take it from Marantz Singapore on showing scans of my invoice and warranty card, etc. I await his response.

Up until this experience, Marantz was a bit like Toyota for, when it came to reliability and the near absence of after-sales requirement. No longer. Till Marantz decides to pay attention to its availability and after-sales in a growing market like India, I am afraid I won't be touching another Marantz product as long as I am resident in India.

Hi All,

Let me tell you my experience with Marantz and its repairs. I had purchased Marantz PM80N way back in 1996 when it was being marketed in India by Philips. Due to some other priorities the unit remained totally unused for almost 2 years and when I started using it, the unit died within a month of use. Philips accepted to repair it but since the warranty was over, I had to pay for the repair. The repair took almost a month as parts had to be procured from Singapore. But the issue repeated again in couple of months. From then on the unit had to be repaired for 4 more times in span of 1.5 years each time me shelling out the charges and waiting for month or two to get the repair done. Finally on 4th attempt the Phillips tech spent almost 2 months and fixed the root cause once and for all.
Fortunately for me I had support of Philips. But I shudder to think what if I had procured it from "some" dealer, would had surly ended up with a 20 kg of very expensive junk.

Thanks,
Pushkar

I visited MZ Audio in Bandra, Mumbai about a month back and they informed me that they are the sole distri for Marantz in India. Also that they will offer 1 year "dealer" warranty on all products bought from them. By the way they have only marantz products and almost the whole range (except the very high end separates) and Boston Acoustics speakers (BA website does show MZ Audio in their distributor list!)

So how does one get Marantz serviced in India. Is the guarantee offered by MZ Audio who claim to be Authorised distributor a valid guarantee and how do they get parts. Am looking to Buy Marantz AVR ( debating between MArantz and Yamaha) but am worried abot guarantee.

well one reason to accept MZ Audio can service Marantz equipment is that they are the authorised dealers for Boston Acoustics, which is a D&M brand and so is Marantz. MZ audio does show up on BA's website. So probably they have some connections with other D&M brands as well. Though this sounds like really distorted story favoring them, but possible. Disclaimer: I have no interests in MZ audio of any kind, what-so-ever.!

I was seriously considering buying AVR 6005 or 5006 from them as the prices were quite attractive and quite close to grey market prices.!

I checked on the marantz singapore website which list 2-3 indian dealers.
But this is all well in theory but what I want to know is the ground reality about marantz service and what my dealers told me is correct or not.
So anyone who would like to share stories about marantz service good or bad?

neeraj0272, bang on target, thanks:

Marantz SG

at least this proves that MZ audio is really a authorised dealer.!
can't say anything on the service part though.
