sam9s HTPC Project! powered by XBMC!!

r u sure you are using the the correct iphone xbmc remote application. Its a paid version 2.99USD and the author is collect3.

Thats right I paid $ 2.99 for that app. Its official app for xbmc and the author is collect 3. I have configured everything in xbmc except for "enable web server" window in settings of xbmc. I don't know which version of xbmc is used in the guide for remote. Can you try in your xbmc settings?

^^ I dont have an iphone to test actually, infact currently I even dont even have my Android device (Desire HD). I sold it off to get Galaxy Nexus. So I am out with a decent phone to try tings out else I would have posted my real snapshots a long time ago.

Forget enable web server if you are not getting, even I was ntop able to find it. just go to System = > Network (this is for the default confulence skin) and you will get the below screen.

Select everything as I have. Make sure you have internet and LAN working. Leave XBMC running and then open the iphone application and try to connect/configure it as per the guide I posted .....

Well this pci-e riser is new thing for me, will google for more details ....... but I can certainly comment on fan less cards, and there is no proof as such that fanless cards are prone to heat. They are fanless coz they dont emit that much of heat that a fan is needed over the heatsink. GT440 though comes with a fan BTW .... :)

i was checking the comparison charts of gt440 and hd6670U fanless edition and found that the fanless ones are consuming noticably more power in load and standby mode. But had better performance in many aspects all games than gt440.however the benchmark didnot publish any quantitative performance comparison in media playback area. Again the fanless one was more costlier as well. So at this point i would focus on getting the smallest gpu in this segment that supports 3d since none of them i see is below 4 inch and hence i wjld have to either end up buying a bigger case and think of placing the htpc elsewhere or later on decide if using a pci riser card things can be managed to be fit in a slimmer case.

Yup, I'm aware of the PCI Riser thingmajig. The thing is, the cabinet also has to support using a PCI Riser. After we mount the card parallel to the motherboard, the cabinet must have a 90 degree rotated PCI window in the back, so that the card can be secured to the cabinet, and the ports are accessible.

That Silverstone case I linked to in your Slim HTPC Cabinet thread supports this. In fact, the cabinet itself comes with the required adapter (but for PCI only, if I remember right). But then that cabinet had 160w PSU which would not do for your needs.

About fanless graphics cards I don' thinkt that will cause long-term problems at all, as they have been designed to be used that way. But then, I don't have personal experience with them.

thanks for keepung in mind my other thread. I believe the route i need to take is what i replied go sam in my last post. However regarding that lc19 case i found that there are several 3rd party makers of such external dc power adapter upto 250 watts which is still short by some margin of a micro atx based htpc that requires a separate gpu. Hence the lc19 case will remain a dream for me. But its good that u reminded of the rear panel in case ofriser cards compatible cabinets. I will keeep tha in mind, however there are riser cables as well

hydra, sam, sorry for spamming this thread :) look what i found just now, a low profile edition of hd6670 just abobe 2 inches high Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100326LP Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card . My question is it says pcie 2.1, so will it work on 2.0. Also it says amd based but my mobo asus p5g41t mlx and proc is intel dual core 3.2 ghz so will there be any potential of compatibility issues. Lastly any other thoughts that i should consider.

^^ It will play on 2.0 (its all backward compatible) and no there would not be any problem to be coupled with your board, i.e p5g41t.

the power requirement if the hd6670 lp is higher, says around 400w overall for pc psu whereas for gt440 it was around 300w overall. I am preparing to get it imported via iccworld. Ebay geb prices are way high. Could not find it on any other indian site

Somehow I managed to configure iphone for xbmc remote. I had to allow xbmc through window firewall. I don't know somehow it was blocked. Thanks for your guide. But I have to keep my router on for using iphone remote.
also while loading movies in xbmc, some system config files got loaded. Which shows up whenever library mode is switched on. I tried to delete it, its not deleting.

My xbmc display on LG full HD 1080p LCD is bit jerky and not smooth. In XBMC settings, video output is set to full screen and resolution is 1920 x 1080. For playback settings, I have "allowed hardware acceleration". Is there any other settings that I may be missing out?

I have placed the order for Sapphire HD 6670 Low Profile card. Now the next thing left is fixing the remote for the HTPC to work with XBMC.

I was reading online that IR remotes have a lag time which is annoying at times. So some are resorting to blue tooth keyboards rather than MCE remotes and then configuring the keystrokes on universal remotes.

Please suggest, considering range and good operational capability.

There is no operational lag with mce remote and xbmc. The actions are instantaneous. Even the cheap remotes available in ebay coupled with eventghost is working without any lag. I will recommend MCE remote. One advantage with the hp mce receiver which I bought is that, it will act as an IR repeater, ie, it will transmit all IR signals it receives. With the help of eventghost, I configured the remote controls of my sherwood bdp and Solid FTA HD receiver for controling xbmc. So, you can buy just the IR receiver and any local dvd remote for controlling xbmc. The dvd remote is better than the hp remote as you can map more buttons to it. The buttons of my hp remote are small and it is difficult to find the buttons. Using the bdp remote is very useful than the original remote. You don't need eventghost for the mce remote. It works out of the box.

thanks bauji, so as per my understanding buying the IR receiver is useful in that it will allow me using my existing remotes alongwith eventghost?

So your suggestion is that HP MCE Receiver is the best bet? where can I get that, any online links?

Try and enable the option "Use full screen window rather than true full screen" in "Setting->System->Video Output"
I configured the settings and it worked. Thanks. Now I am having another problem. I get 4-5 "config.sys" files in my xbmc library which is not deleting. It does not show up in when library mode is clicked om but it does show up when library mode is on. I think i made some mistake earlier while adding movies. How can I delete these files?
