sam9s HTPC Project! powered by XBMC!!

OK I think now you are directly logging in to XBMC skipping windows right....?. To get the ip follow the below steps.

1. Log in to XBMC as you normally do.
2. Once you are in to xbmc, press ctrl+alt+del from key board and click on start task maneger.
3. Once the task manager is opened. Click on ALT and then press enter and then again enter.
4. This would open create new task window.
5. Type in cmd and then press enter.
6. Now you are in command prompt.
11. Just type ipconfig and note down the ipv4 address.
12. That is your internal IP. It should be something like 192.168.x.y
13. type exit and now open XBMC remote and configure it accordingly.

some screens to keep you familier.

What can be as low profile as GT440 I wonder ....... GT420/430 ..... or HD 6670 maybe, but its gonna be same in dimensions, might be a bit big infact ....

I have no idea about graphics cards, but will this do the job? It is a HD6450 low-profile card that has HDMI/DVI/VGA connectors. It is fanless too :)

I'm not completely sure of this, but I think the card will come with full height and half height PCI brackets, and to use the half height bracket, the VGA port will need to be removed.

I have mentioned how to configure windows screen in my htpc thread.

Put all movies in separate folders under a dedicated drive or a common folder. In XBMC , add this drive or common folder as the video location and set the content as movies. For naming movies, use a format like moviename (year).

example:

D:\movies\Cowboys And Aliens\Cowboys and Aliens (2011).mkv

My external hard drive has path like this for movies, D:\movies\Bluray rip movies\grown ups\grown ups(2010).mkv and I followed your instructions but i did not work and XBMC tried to detect files from other folders. You mean I should not have any other folders in that drive. Please help.

Thanks. I got ip address of my htpc. I was trying to configure my iphone to use as remote. I have the official remote apps for XNMC remote loaded in my phone. I followed your instructions but its not responding to XBMC. It is asking to install zeroconfig setting.

Number of folders in the root of the drive doesn't matter. I assume that all your movies are located under the folder 'movies'. In XBMC , click Add Videos, select the folder (D:\movies) set the content as 'movies'. Scan your movie collection. Make sure that you are connected to internet while scanning for downloading movie information. All movies under d:\movies will be added to your library.

Similarly you can add other locations also.

You can enable zeroconf under settings>network.

^^ Captainnizral, try these steps [might've missed something but I can confirm once I get home]

Open XBMC
Click "Videos" [library mode-turn OFF]
Add source
Browse for location
Enter a name [your choice] for this media source and click "OK"
"unchecked" - exclude folder from scan
Directory contains - Movies
Choose Scraper -[themoviedb.org] this's by default but you can add IMDB etc. later as well
"Check mark" - Run auto scan/folder for lookups/scan recursively and leave remaining 2 blank and click "OK"
Click "Yes" - do you want refresh all info for all items within this path

Try this for quick reference

This should do the trick - if not then let us know - we'll figure out whats wrong.

Did you manage to configure XBMC remote on android phone ??

Thanks. I will try and let you guys know. I might be missing something while loading the movies.
Nope I haven't been able to configure my iphone to use as remote. It is asking to set zeroconfig. Whats that?

Okay I managed to add most of the movies to XBMC. Some of the movies I will have to do manually, I guess.
No I haven't been able to configure my iphone to control XBMC. When my belkin router is switched off, my HTPC is not displaying any ip address. It simply says wireless LAN disconnected. Do I need to keep internet connected to get my phone work as remote?
When the router is on, it is showing ip address but even then I am unable to configure the phone.

@captainrizal, here I am uploading a pdf file that is a complete guide as to how to configure XBMC and the remote for the same.

Free File Hosting, Online Storage &amp File Upload with FileServe

This is assuming that you have the official iphone XBMC remote.

Also you need to keep you router on for this to work, not just because HTPC would need internet to download information, but also because, the remote communication happens on wifi LAN.

captain, if you don't want to leave your router on all time, there is a workaround. Just buy a small usb wifi adapter and you can create a virtual wifi hotspot if you are using windows 7 as the OS. I am using this virtual wifi hotspot to connect my laptop and htpc. I bought the wifi adapter from ebay for Rs.675/-

wifi adapter | eBay

The software for EDUP wifi dongle I bought has option to create a virtual wifi. You can use softwares like connectify or maryfi to create a virtual hotspot if the driver softwaer has no such option. But I prefer the windows command line. Open notepad and type the following two lines and save it as 'startwifi.bat'

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=WiFiHotspot key=password keyUsage=persistent
netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Replace ssid=wifihotspot and key=password as per your requirement.

To disconnect the wifi, create another bat file 'stopwifi.bat'. The command is

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

You can create a button in xbmc to start and stop the wifi or you can program the wifi to start automatically when your htpc starts.

Thanks for sending complete guide for configuring xbmc and remote but I'm getting stuck at first step itself. I don't get "web server enable" option in change network setting window, which must be enabled to get iphone working for xbmc. I'm using xbmc latest dharma version with default confluence skin. I think the guide is for some other version of xbmc.

Thanks Baiju, I will try that one too but let me configure my xbmc and iphone with my Belkin router. It looks very simple but I must be missing out something while configuring.

sam and hydra, i think u guys are right in saying that low profile cards are mostly fanless ones and of course having half height brackets. However there is another thing called pci-e riser cards, google it. These help in mounting bigger cards preferably fanless at 180 deggree parallel to the mobo, so i am also not giving away that option. Most importantly what i want to understand is that whether fanless ones have good life or prone to damage by overheat with case fans only. And also if the low profile ones are comparable to the gt440.

Well this pci-e riser is new thing for me, will google for more details ....... but I can certainly comment on fan less cards, and there is no proof as such that fanless cards are prone to heat. They are fanless coz they dont emit that much of heat that a fan is needed over the heatsink. GT440 though comes with a fan BTW .... :)

Yup, I'm aware of the PCI Riser thingmajig. The thing is, the cabinet also has to support using a PCI Riser. After we mount the card parallel to the motherboard, the cabinet must have a 90 degree rotated PCI window in the back, so that the card can be secured to the cabinet, and the ports are accessible.

That Silverstone case I linked to in your Slim HTPC Cabinet thread supports this. In fact, the cabinet itself comes with the required adapter (but for PCI only, if I remember right). But then that cabinet had 160w PSU which would not do for your needs.

About fanless graphics cards I don' thinkt that will cause long-term problems at all, as they have been designed to be used that way. But then, I don't have personal experience with them.
