Hi ALL,
I am back from US and I want to share something with you all, When I was in US I was accessing Netflix.(Since Netflix provides a month of subscription free I took one to see how good it is.) Since I was kinda too busy there I did not want to start any TV series that was serious in terms of story and plot. I gave a shot to Prison Break Season 3 and a TV series called Flash-point.
To my surprise both the TV series turned out to be pretty decent, and held my interest through out. But alas obviously I could not complete and I had to come back.
Ironically one thing I did miss here of US was Netflix ....
, believe me I have every kind of media player and android player where in I can access/stream media off internet or my NAS, but Netflix for some reason really really seemed convenient, specially when accessed from a Media player like WD TV Live. Which I bought (the latest 2013 model) from US. Its just a couple of clicks before you start to stream, that too in proper 720p HD, with subs and the application starts off your TV series (or movie) from exactly the point you left off. (And it can track multiple TV series and movies you watch)
Anyway here in India I was kinda missing Netflix so did a google, "Netflix in India", hoping there would be some news of their services been extended in India. Instead to my surprise I found that there are ways to access Netflix from India as well. There are services that provide you VPN with a DNS entry that makes your network appear as if in US. Which makes any US only service accessible in India (yes not only Netflix, I was able to access VUDU, HULU and Amazon Prime Instant Video as well)
Couple of reviews later I found "Unblock-Us - smarter faster VPN" to be reliable and since they were also providing a free 7 day trial I decided to give it a shot, plus my subscription with nexflix free one month also had couple of days left.
After registration, all you need to do it to entrer the DNS ip they provide to either your windows machine or better your router configuration, the adv here is that if you put the DNS entry in your router all devices connected can take advantage. I did the same and vola!! in seconds netflix opened in my browser and my WD TV Live media player as well.
I have an 8mbps connection so streaming bandwidth was not a problem, all I wanted to see was how good it looks on my HDTV and how good the application streams. I was amazed by not only did netflix provide 1080p streaming, it also had 5.1 DD. Since WD TV Live had
DD THD Bit streaming I was able to see DD+ on my AVR and the quality of streaming was simply gorgeous. I was able to stream full 1080p without any hiccup from WD TV. Netflix plays episodes one after the other without human intervention, unless you want to stop, you just have to sit back and keep watching episodes after episodes without touching the remote. After 5,6 continuous episodes Netflix asks by a pop up, "Are you still watching xyz series" with yes or no. This is I guess so that just in case you fell asleep, the app's gonna keep playing the entire series, to prevent this and to confirm if some one is still sitting watching, it provides this pop up, neat if you ask me.
Anyway I completed Prosion Break S03 and 4,5 episodes of FlashPoint. Will update my experience in TV thread.
Mean time if anyone is interested in this route feel free to ask any question. I just wanted to share my this experience.
BTW the VPN services is 5 USD a month plus Netflix is 7 USD so if we do decide to take this route we have like 12 USD/Month ~ 680 to 700/Month.
for unlimited streaming of 1000s of TV series and Movies in full 1080p HD with 5.1 DD sound ......, what do people say .....worth..??!!!
Regards
Sammy
