I was able to get a netflix account.
Now I connect my laptop to my st50 via hdmi and enjoy the movies.

First I tried to use my tv's browser after configuring the dns server manually.
I was not able to stream the movies as netflix tries to install some packages onto it.
So I had to settle with my laptop.

But while not watching netflix I would definitely change back my dns server to auto. I am afraid that I could be directed to a totally different website for banking transactions. Anyway this is only my defensive move. I could as well continue with my dns settings as well.

But this is real cool stuff, masquerading as someone in US that too with a VPN.

Only that needs to be done is to change the DNS servers. Thats what this service does is to host DNS servers in various countries and change the incoming IP to netflix.

Keep a back of your router DNS settings before you do the change.

You are always welcome, even I first tried with my browser on my Desktop connected to my TV as well, but the way Netflix works, if you have noticed, is (and for other members FYI as well) it starts of streaming with a low 280p resolution and then gradually movies it up to 300, 388, 480 and then 720p and if bandwidth allows to full 1080p HD. This is good if you ask me. The problem with browser is that it takes too long to reach 720p, for what ever reason and because Netflix always starts with 288p when ever you stop, or rewind, with a browser it gets kinda irritating ........ With WD TV Live that I have it takes mere 10 sec at the max to reach 720p/1080p, plus the interface is super easy and very nicely done. I would highly recommend WD TV Live 2013 model for Netflix, or other US streaming services like VUDU, HULU.

OK I checked in the streaming plans and I do see a 12 USD 4 devices plans listed there. The 8 USD plans is limited to two devices, so I am ready to experiment on this free account, to see if it works with two users logged in simultaneously and can stream independently.

@Dushie the solution you shares is already active there I guess. (Netflix Introduces User Profiles To Improve Account Sharing) I can create profiles for the users who are sharing the account and when I log in Netflix asks who is watching and loads the preferences of the users accordingly, ..........neat if you ask me.

What I have done is created a guest account (profile) and a password for this free account. If anyone is willing to test, I can share the password. When you login and Netflix asks who is watching, make sure you choose GUEST and not "samret". and try to stream any show/movie. We will then see if the account stores the user preferences according to the profile that has logged in.

If this works we can share the cost (if more then 2 people are interested, then we can go for that 12 usd plan divided by 4 which would be 3 USD, just 150-200 rs, making it very attractive ......

Any one interested to perform this test ....@Dushie, may be you ....let me know. I will share the password and we can try logging and streaming immediately and simultaneously so see how this works ......

Ok thats good, I am PMing you the credentials, my Bro has taken my WD TV Live for a week so I can not test on it as of now, but will test it on Browser, if it works on browser, I suppose it will work on WD TV as well.

If we are only two people then we can go for 8 USD/month account. The family account will need 4 people which is 12USD/month. So if at later stage we have more I will shift to family account.

When you login with the credentials I sent ....... you will be asked to choose a profile to continue, make sure you choose guest. Once the initial setup is done start streaming and see if all wroks well. But major test is when we stream both at the same time.

I am in office right now and will reach around 9 PM. So I am suggesting a time of 10 when I will also test to stream, you also do the same and we will see if we can stream simultaneously in HD.

If all works well we can share the cost and I will create a profile with your name that you can customized accordingly

And adding to that, Dushie, and I tested the account to stream simultaniously, and it worked perfectly ...... anyone interested I can share my guest account password to test as well before making any decission.

Come on guys its just 3 USD (170-200 Rs) per head if we have all 4 people .......

I am also a diehard Netflix user and I stream using XBox360 and the experience is nothing to complain about.
I have long ditched my cable connection/Blu Ray player after I switched to Netflix.

Follow the above link and install media hint extension in your chrome and firefox browser. I am using the same on my pc and Netflix is working fine.
The best part this is free, so no need to pay for a VPN. This would be ideal for pc or laptop users.

OK so we have all 4 members for our Netflix family .... welcome technobhatt, PMed you the login credentials, try and confirm. If you are streaming on laptop you can install a plugin for chrome, which Dushie shared and you dont need a VPN connection.

If you want to stream on a Media PLayer like WD TV Live or ROKU or Xbox360, then you need VPN.

And one more thing approximately how much data will be consumed to watch a HD movie ? Coz I am having MTNL 2 mbps unlimited plan with a catch of 150 gb data/ month.

@Dushie: I tried to install media hint extension in Chrome browser, but it said it can access all my website data. Is it safe to use this plugin? Just curious. I am always afraid of virus and security attacks!

You can try that out, personally I think it should work ...... else try using that chrome plugin that Dushie mentioned.

About bandwidth, a typical 720p video usually takes anything between 2mbits/sec to 4mbits/sec depending upon the compression level, bitrate etc.
Taking the lower limit of 2mbits/sec its 120mbits in a minute and 7200mbits in an hour or 900MBytes.
