Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

I am also interested. If by chance any vacany is created, or may be a new group is formed.Tried hotspot shield- it isn't working.
I tried Unclock-Us and i reached the netflix registration page but its asking for a US credit card.
@sam9s Can i get to try with the guest profile ?
Also would it be possible to access netflix on the android TV Stick in 720p atleast ? Thinking of buying one.

Anyways broadband is going to get cheaper latest by 2014.Let the 4G players come in esp. Reliance !

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Friends,

Sorry for jumping in late.

Having read this thread last week. I have using the Netflix with unblock-us since Sat last. WOW experience.:yahoo::yahoo:

Can I join in the gang of family???? :signthankspin::signthankspin:

We have been going crazy watching Hercule Poirot - it is such a pain getting a copy of HP. :yahoo::yahoo:

My TV does not permit installation of Netflix, and neither does the phone. As of now I use the laptop to login/play in the browser and connect using a HDMI to watch.

Can I play this on my laptop and throw to the TV without the HDMI cable? and maybe I think I will try the browser add-in also.

Thanks people.

You dont need a US credit card, just US address, while creating the account.
When asked for billing address, just add any US address and put your India credit card and it will take it ... :), hope that helps ...:)

Yes Android has an official app, BUT it does not support HD streaming (yet!) ......so no 720p ... :(, but it still looks good on TAB and Mobile, coz of small screen. If you port your tab or Phone display on TV, it does not look good at all. Best quality comes via WD TV 2013.

What is the minimum broadband speed requirement ? Netflix forums say 1.5mbps per DVD quality streaming , for HD quality it may need more I guess.

Atleast 4 mbps for a no lag viewing (HD720p),as per my experience.
From Netflix Site : (https://support.netflix.com/en/node/87)
Best quality (uses up to 1 GB per hour, up to 2.8 GB per hour if watching HD, or up to 4.7 GB per hour if watching 3D)

0.5 Megabits per second - Required broadband connection speed
1.5 Megabits per second - Recommended broadband connection speed
3.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for DVD quality
5.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for HD quality
7.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for Super HD quality
12 Megabits per second - Recommended for 3D quality

@k2max6
I used my Indian amex card while using an US address (i had stayed at a long stay for sometime in US - used that address)

I use a Airtel 8mbps FUP capped at 30GB for 8mbps and 256kpbs onwards. But with unblock-us it tops out at 5mbps.

I have very happy with the picture quality on my 50inch through the laptop.

How many movies you can watch with only 30GB cap?

I guess only people with avg 4mbps and unlimited FUP per month can enjoy the netflix service to the fullest.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Airtel has an option of 4mbps with 75Gb cap of high speed after that 256kpbs.
They have something called FUP - Fair Usage Plan (plan based high speed for a certain usage and post that 256kpbs {which is defined as minimum speed for a connection to be called broadband connection})

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

If another "family" :) is formed I am interested as well.

And thanks Sam for spreading the good stuff !

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

OK so we have all 4 members for our Netflix family .... welcome technobhatt, PMed you the login credentials, try and confirm. If you are streaming on laptop you can install a plugin for chrome, which Dushie shared and you dont need a VPN connection.

If you want to stream on a Media PLayer like WD TV Live or ROKU or Xbox360, then you need VPN.

......... just to summarize we have ..

Dushie
Sud
Sam9s
technobhatt

on board......let me also provide the fee details ..

Happy Streaming!!!

Regards
Sammy

Hey are all of you getting HD streams ? mine is not playing HD, i am on 16mbps plan and using unlock-us trial. Is it due to the trial?

Where are you streaming, Browser or Media player. On WD TV 2013, I always get 720p,(wired, didnt try wireless) rarely it goes below 720p, on few TV Series it was full 1080p as well .... I have 8mbps connection.

On Browser, it takes a lot of time to reach 720p but it does reach ...... on chrome, if you are not getting HD even after 15-20 minutes ...... press shift+alt+right mouse click and go to chrome buffer setting. Increase it to a notch or two and see if that makes a difference.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Thanks Sammy. I have tried Netflix on my laptop and it works like a charm.
@Dushie: I tried to install media hint extension in Chrome browser, but it said it can access all my website data. Is it safe to use this plugin? Just curious. I am always afraid of virus and security attacks!

I have been using the same for some time now without any issues. I have two browsers installed. Use media hint in firefox and use that for watching NBC,Pnadora , netflix testing.

For regular stuff i am using chrome. Till now i have not faced any issues.

I have WD TV too and watched netflix last year on the same, it was playing at 720p most of the time and i was very happy with the same, I watched around 2 seasons of Breaking bad on the same. Also watched plenty of movies did not face any issue it worked great at 720p.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

me too, you can use my profile ID.

Looking at VPN options now, as i want to start using WD again, wish there was some way to share the Vpn accounts too.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Great. I think there is a way to use the same from my ps3 as well, as Netflix is already displayed in the xmb but I can't access it without using the VPN DNS etc.
One question , how much bandwidth would u say one hour of 720p or 1080p consume ? As with most people stuck with average or below average inadequate FUPs, this is a matter of concern for me.
360p is about 120mb per hour. 720p will be about 300-400 MB per hour ? Has anyone calculated / monitored the bw usage ?

This is from the Netflix site ...

Manage Bandwidth Usage

If you are interested in setting a limit on how much data our service will use, you can adjust your video quality setting. Navigate to Netflix.com/VideoQuality to manage the amount of data you use when playing movies and TV shows on Netflix.

There are 3 settings to choose from:

Good quality (uses up to 0.3 GB per hour)
Better quality (uses up to 0.7 GB per hour)
Best quality (uses up to 1 GB per hour, up to 2.8 GB per hour if watching HD, or up to 4.7 GB per hour if watching 3D)

See our Internet Connection Speed Recommendations for more information about how fast your connection must be to stream in each quality level.

Different regions may have different default video quality settings:

The default video quality setting in Canada is "Good."
The default video quality setting in Brazil is "Good."
All other countries have "Best" as the default video quality setting.

at 720p it should be under 1 GB per hour, i never bothered about this as i have an unlimited connection.Always kept my settings at best quality.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Yesterday I streamed the movie "hunter" over my 20mbps connection.
All the panning shots in the movie went for a toss. Netflix is supposed to smoothen the content for motion sickness and the stream.
It may be be bearable on a laptop but not on a 50 inch tv:mad:
