The denon AVR X500 when played in pure direct and stereo mode .... With the woofer turned off in settings .... There is very low bass coming from the speakers ...
Only front left and right speakers are used ,remaining all are turned off. Crossover settings is also not used.

I am Using Wharfedale diamond 220 as fronts ....

Is the lack of bass due to Denon or the wharfedales ?

While using Neo mode (stereo to 5.1) .....there is very low sound coming from front left and right speakers.....and the sound coming from centre (Wharfedale 220C) is normal I mean good with no problem ....

What am I missing here?

Lack of bass could be from source file too... What format did you play?

Diamond need good power to bring them to life... I have used Diamond 9.2 with an Marantz AVR.. I had to crank up volume for reasonably good volume...

Neo mode picks the information from left & right channels and send it to 5.1 speakers...

If you are listening to stereo, you can skip Neo mode..

Thanks I tried with flac files from PC ....but less bass:-(

And in neo mode there is very low sound coming from front left and right speakers while playing stereo.....
I want to convert stereo to 5.1 :-(

How have you connected your PC to AVR? HDMI?

Normal 3.5 mm audio jack

I would like to ask something ..... Before HDMI or say before 1995 when there was no HDMI but only simple hi fi systems like the Kenwood in my uncle's house ....don't remember the model but it has these speakers .....

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFgxMjAw/z/ipcAAOSwNyFWgZ1I/$_20.JPG

My uncle Connected a (Panasonic VCR yes you heard it right) to Kenwood hi fi through audio outs ..... The sound out of them was crystal clear and the bass was simply amazing .....

I heard them when i was 13 .....i still remember the amazing sound coming out of them .....

After nearly 20 years I am hunting for that sound .....to have it in my house ....to own it .....Technology has improved a lot ..... But if a amplifier can't even play a song decently thru 3.5 mm jacks then what is the use of the technology ..... But it isn't the case technology can handle 3.5 mm jacks pretty well.....

And I have come across many threads where people say use monster cables ....well to me it doesn't need to be monster or angel brand it just needs to be a good copper .

Now can someone please tell me what am I missing in my system?

Change the amp or speakers?or do I need to look into settings ....?

Try a source like CD/dvd player with line level outputs. Borrow if you don't have one. 3.5 mm jack from pc is after audio processing. Not the best source.

All avrs have source level, channel level, tone controls. Check the manual and see what you can adjust. Your avr has bass don't worry.

Thanks for giving me hope.....

I think Wharfedale 220 lacks bass ..... Its response is 56 Hz:-(

I will buy a wharfedale 225..... But it has got no reviews ..... Is it a new product yet to be released?

Well, not right to compare those old age music systems. They are just not made any more sadly. Coming to your setup. Did you run the auto setup for the system to adjust the distances and levels? I am not aware of the base output from your speaker model, maybe they just need a Sub. Play in Stereo mode so that the Sub is part of the setup. Another point, if you are trying to play with the Sub off, then switch the front speakers to Large, so they get the full signal range with out any crossover cutting out the low frequency.

All the best.

Before blindly changing speakers, please try some more expts with the chain. Suspect everything. But my money is on the source to avr connection and avr setting. Also are you using thick enough speaker wire

It's denon which not the best solution to run wharfedale with command.reasons could be_
Lack of real power which wharfedale need.
Also internal denon dac is not that good compared with a cdp.
If you connect same speakers to good integrated amp or pre_power combo ,you can get that bass.

The culprit her is 3.5mm audio jack from PC to AVR... There are better ways to connect it to PC...

Does your PC have HDMI output? (or) Digital optical/Co-axial output? If not add a simple graphics card for 2K and you are done.....

Improve your connectivity first... If it doesn't help, then consider changing components...

I played with even Sony bluray player .....same result

I have used x500 for more than 2 years .Its a very good AVR for its price range. Its having upto 165 watt spower.I have used it for driving Dali Zensor5 no issue faced. The only issue I faced if you play with 3.5 mm jack ,There will be some disturbances (may be be signal loss or I don't know).I have faced earthing problem when using that 3.5mm jack.
Try with different source and connections.

Then my Wharfedale is the problem as I faced the same problem playing Avatar bluray thru HDMI in Sony bluray .... Very little bass....

It depends on budget.FMs have used Norge with wharfedale happily.Even heard rotel with earlier series.Again its personal choice.Try some auditions.
