Yes I used HDMI but same results....
Then my Wharfedale is the problem as I faced the same problem playing Avatar bluray thru HDMI in Sony bluray .... Very little bass....
Trying to understand your issue better.. What did you play on bluray player? Audio CD's?
I sense there is something wrong with crossover settings... What is your center/surround speaker? Do you have a sub?
Please list your speakers settings as seen on AVR on screen display...
center wharfedale 220c set as large
fronts wharfedale 220 set as large
subwoofer set as No
as of now i am using in stereo mode....
will add rears later ..... after knowing what is the actual issue
i am planning to buy wharfedale 225 for fronts which goes to 45Hz low
where as 220 goes only to 56Hz
Any suggestions welcome.....
after solving the issue i will buy Denon AVR x2200w
I would suggest you to take your BS for an audition with higher series AVR and check yourself if any improvement...
FS will need more power..
Will try...
Wharfedale 225 is a Bookshelf (not a FS) with a 6 1/2 inch driver ....which is not yet released in the market I think as there is nothing about it online now.

i too have bought Wharfedale 220 series speakers last month,
Diamond 220 BS
Center 220C
Surround : Wharfedale 10.DFS
SW : Velodyne Impact 10
AVR : Denon X1000
Got it installed 3 back, im still playing with the settings as this is my first experience with a HT, to get richer output while playing songs i use Multi CH Stereo so that all my speakers plays the Music.
BTW I connected my passive subwoofer to front left of the AVR ....but there was no deep bass....Bookshelf speakers will not produce great bass, its just fine, Maybe you are expecting too much bass from the speakers, I too have bookshelf speakers and definately there is a need for subwoofer for certain tracks. You must definitely try taking your speakers for an auditon with other avr or maybe a stereo amp as mentioned previously, thats the only way you would know if your avr is incompetent or your speakers are not actually going very low. Also do check the wiring from your avr to speakers hope its good quality(i dont mean expensive but something decent)
In my opinion 220 produces decent bass for its size and expected out of a BS.
