TV Stand - Custom Build, need help with pointers..

elangoas,

Racks to host AVRs need to be at least 16-20 inches deep. 16" for shallow depth AVRs and 20" for full depth AVRs.
Otherwise you will have bent of shape cables (not desirable).
Rack below the TV should take all heavy and deep items. You can place center speaker above TV too.

Take a look at this and see if it can be scaled/modified to your room dimensions

Sound Foundation stands (magma's creations) have replaced the red stools in the setup.

What is your equipment list? Present and planned, FMs may be able to give you ideas accordingly.

Cheers,
Raghu

Thanks for the pointers Raghu..

Very similar to what am looking for.. Will take cues from this and recreate something this weekend on sketchup and share here with equipment here...

Here is a TV stand that i built 4 years ago...

Am a Mathemetician (Maths Graduate :ohyeah:), but have no knowledge of drawing and use of equipments to sketch them...

I used only A4 size paper and pencil to make a miniature drawing with exact dimensions and handed it over to carpenter and requested him not to deviate any dimension...

This stand was designed to accomodate a 32 inch TV, an AVR, a stereo power amplifier, a Center channel speaker, a CD player, a PC and some frequently used Discs..

Only when i moved to 46 inch screen, i realised that i made a mistake with the height of the TV stand... It was too high for a 46inch TV for someone sitting on the floor & watching it.... Our neck was strained, when watching prolonged period... That was a flaw

Thought to take pointers from FM here this time and see what works..

Thanks @tuff.. Really appreciate your help.. But i had given the TV stand to my younger brother few years back...:) He has put it in to use..

I made a simple teak rack with slats for air flow.
Sounds great and not very expensive to make if you have a good carpenter.

Match the polish color to your door and it may be a nice simple solution.

Looks very neat... Can't find any wires other than the power adapter ones :)

There is a reason why TV consoles are built the way they are. The ideal position for a TV is to be vertically centered at eye height. This matters if you watch a lot of TV otherwise if you are like me and my family at home - the TV could be mounted on the ceiling for all we care :D

Yes.. I did take care of that pointer that when seated on a sofa, the eye meets the center of the TV screen.. For a 32inch TV that was fine, but when we moved to 46 inch, there was slight discomfort..

When we watch TV program, we sit casually on the floor (Natural recliner :ohyeah:), leaning & stretching to all possible position.. Discomfort is more say when we watch 2 -3 hrs at a stretch..

I have temporarily put on hold the idea of low wall unit as i am swapping my set-up to the room dimensions.

Now, my room would be 14ft wide x 11ft depth.

Idea is to put the Klipsch BS on wooden stands with enough spacing to sides of the speaker, also to accommodate two sub-woofer which am planning to get it by next month end..

TV will be unmounted from the wall and put on table top stand, with center channel & AVR below that..

Now coming to the wooden stands for the BS.

BS dimensions - H 424 x W 224 x D 327 mm, abt 9 Kgs weight each.

I measured the height from the tweeter to the speaker base and it is 325 mm... Kindly help me with speaker stand maximum height in mm..

Do you have any issues with the TV on the wall?

Tweeters at ear level is the accepted intel. Why do you want a maximum height?

Nope.. Forgot to mention it.. When i swap the room dimension, there is a 5 x 5 window exactly in the place where TV is to be wall mounted.. Hence table top stand..

Yes right.. I did read few posts in the forum on ear height placement.. Abt 40 inch when sitting erect and 34 inches in relaxed listening position.. Hence was looking for adjusted height of the stand for the BS.

Hi Elangoas,

As I told you in my PMs, I have a slightly simple and better idea for an audio stand.

The advantages are as follows:

1) Easy to build. No carpentering skills required.
2) Cost wise is less.
3) Flexible in terms of increasing or decreasing the size of the individual shelves.
4) Extremely durable.
5) Size/height/design of the stand can be increased as time passes with minimal investment.
6) For a 4 tier stand the approximate cost stands at 5000-6000 rupees.

Disadvantages:

1) Does not have designer look or appeal. Simple looking. If you are looking for "Magma" sound foundations look, build something else.
2) Poor WAF factor.

I tried to use Sketch up, but I am poor in that soft ware. I will build my own and post a new thread about it. Or if someone can help me use sketch up or similar software, I can post my plan for the build for the benefit of our members.

Thanks Vinod R.

Will speak to you soon to get the idea..

If i swap my set-up, to the other room dimensions, am able to fit TV, center channel & AVR too in the existing one... Hence the hold on building the unit..
