Hi Guys,

Since last month I have been reading various posts and understanding nuances of good music. During the course I auditioned various speakers. I must admit it is one of the most daunting task which I have undertaken.

Finally I decide Denon 1713+MA bx2 (some credit goes to What hifi) and received it last week. I have been listening music since then.

Initially I was happy with the sound. But now I have been observing shrill (ssssss) in voices (esp female voice). I really did not notice this while I auditioned. At that time my concern was that speaker should have tight bass (I am happy with that) and may be I did not notice/consider this. Also I believe acoustic AVR etc were different. Now since I have received and can make right judgement.

I have following questions:

Is some amount of shrill is acceptable?
Is it because of AVR or speaker?
How it can be reduced?
Which combination of speaker+AVR will give no/minimum shrill?

Thanks a lot.

Both MA and denon tend to be brighter, hence the fatigue. To get around it, I would pair the speakers with amp/avr which are warmer like marantz and nad. I had MA RX6 paired with both marantz and yamaha and liked them both. I would also suggest you audition the female vocal songs with some of these amps and check if you actually like monitor audio sound signature.

Ditto. I have enjoyed the br2 with nad first and now with a yamaha v473 in conjunction with the br5. They sound balanced and can play for hours and hours without any fatigue.

Marantz brings about the same in ma...

Anik, one question. If music is your priority, why did you go in for an AVR? It would have been better to buy an integrated amp.Mid priced AVRs are never a good idea for only music.

mowgli80 & dheerajjotwani thanks for feedback
Unfortunately I have bought them. Upgrading AVR is not a viable option for me right now. Also I did not know earlier that AVR can also sound bright\warm.

After listening my choice is now very clear. I need warm sounding speaker. Please suggest good options with 1713

@docd : I intend to upgrade to 5.1 in future.
