Thanks to the this forum and members i have gained enough information on the latest television technology, well it is my dream to buy a good plasma tv for my family,i am sure many of us do, since i am from Hyderabad and we do not have the privileges of new models/offers etc like big cities have, well i am posting this thread for members in Hyderabad who wanted to buy plasma tv to join as group and get a good deal by diwali.since the budget is around 40-50k (which is not a small investment for many) we can plan from now,As i have seen in hyderabad market mostly RELIANCE DIGITAL,BAJAJ ELECTRONICS,ADIESHWAR and few small shops are there.well as a group we get a good deal and most importantly no demo pieces and people who are new or layman as i am to tvs will have benefit, and also warranty from company side.so i am open to the forum and expect the member of Hyderabad to share their views and opinions on how to go about it.

Since when did Hyderabad become a small city? one visit to the old city and it beats the hell out of Dharavi in terms of density!!!

Blasto and few others are experts from Hyderabad and they will advice. Since most companies have launched their 2012 models few weeks back - I think there will be a reasonable price differential from now and Diwali - particularly the panasonic ones.

3 years back I got my samsung 46 inch LCD from The TMC large screen display showroom in Jubilee Hills which at time (76K) was a reasonable deal. Am sure with more competition now - you should get a reasonable TV. My personal preference would be a 50inch non HD tv vs a smaller full HD particularly if 90% of your TV watching is cable/dish TV.

Samsung does not give any additional warranty (for a price) for Plasma TVs. so if anything happens to the panel after 1 year..you can throw the TV. So if all else being equal, choose a Panasonic over a Samsung. Atleast it is covered for3 years

Already Samsung has started blue-ray offer with 42 size or more,i think Panasonic may start, well Olympic games are nearby so except some offers.

Check out LG Models as well - 2012 lineup is pretty decent, at good prices and they offer complete extended warranty for a price. (10K approx for 50" Plasma for 2 yrs). Pana offers extended warranty (if they still do) on panel.

Online portal Flip-kart does not offer 42" TVs to Hyderabad region moreover i don't how reliable to buy big T.V/investment with them,Reliance digital has corporate inquiries where they may consider group ,I don't whether direct Panasonic company can offer discount for group buys.

How is the flip kart rates and why they are not offering to Hyderabad wrt to televisions, why they launch latest models late in Hyderabad. Some offers are going on with LCD AND LED tvs not for plasma.

Lets form group and we can bargain and also can get contacts from expert in hyderabad.

I am looking out for plasma. Hall where I am going to put it is light controlled and suited for plasma.

My requirement:
  • My viewing distance will be 4-9 feet.
  • Mainly watching movies via usb/hdd.
  • Other at my home will watch tv shows/news via setup box.
  • I think 40-43" is ideal for my requirement.
  • Anything below or around 60K is fine.

Should I go for full HD (because of movies) or as I am planning to go for 42", it will not make any difference?

You might only be able to tell the difference on full HD if watching 1080p content sitting at a distance of 6ft for a 50inch tv. For everything else, a HD ready panel is more than sufficient.

Panasonic XT50 and X50 are great entry level plasma's and will do full justice to your requirement. If budget permits then next in line would be UT50, else stick with X50/XT50.

+1 to this...

Just checked with a Panasonic dealer in Delhi :

50XT50 - 62K
50UT50 - 77K

Not 100% sure if both these models come with free HT.

These are dealer's quote and have not been negotiated yet, so there should be some room of 2-3K to go for..

Enjoy the monsoon !

Great to hear UT50 prices.

So monsoon arrived in Delhi? In Pune, we are having cloud cover for the whole of June-July but hardly any rain.

I have visited few places and was not able to see display model for 42XT50 however can see 42X50. Seems it will take time to get XT50 or UT50 on display. However I could get following rate (not negotiated):
42X50: 44900
42XT50: 50500
42UT30: 54000 (yet to get more details. But its fresh piece and not display one)

In one of showroom I could even see 42v20 (which was rare to see). It was not even in same shop sometime back. Sales person said its been placed on display just 2-3 weeks back and rate offered was 65000

Sales person also informed about display piece for 42st30 in some other shop and rate was quoted of 57000
However told that I will get warranty from date of purchase.

One of my friend informed that if you are not going to select panny ST series onward then you can even think about sammy in entry level plasmas (42E490.)

I am bit confused now...

V20 : 2010 model.........a top of the class Panasonic's hi end award winning tv
ST30 : 2011 model..........excellent performer, one of the best tv available
UT30 : 2011 model.........entry level 3D tv full HD
UT50 : 2012 model.........entry level 3D tv full HD with upgraded brighter panel
X50 : 2012 model...........entry level 2D HD ready plasma with upgraded panel
XT50 : 2012 model.........entry level 3D HD ready plasma with upgraded panel

I would steer away from UT30 and look at any of the 2012 models. Best would be to go and demo the tv's and then finally decide. Just for info the series go like this from top to bottom : VT, V, GT, G, ST, S, UT, u, XT, X..........so X is the basic entry level while V sits right on top being the most expensive series.
Earlier with the X30 Panasonic did not have any good entry level plasma's compared to samsung but with the launch of the 2012 line up things have changed and both X50 and XT50 are excellent tv's perhaps even better than the entry level tv's from Samsing.

Where is the U series model in Panasonic 2012, we have X,XT, UT, ..... But we dont have the U series. that is Full HD TV minus the 3D.
