5.1 Channel home theater for my LCD

Hello Guys,

Recently I bought Samsung LA40C550 LCD and I would like to connect my LCD to 5.1 channel home theater. Please throw some lite on how to connect LCD to home theater. Most of the LCD o/p 2.1 channel audio and if I connect 5.1 channel home theater will it o/p 5.1 or not? Also suggest me any good 5.1 channel home theater within 5K range.

LCDtv with coax/optical out only can connect digitally to HTibs.
You can connect 2ch out of LCD with analoge to Htib,but will get pseudo surr like prologic2.
Now to get true surr,you need 5.1 source like HD STB,DVDp.STB can directly connected to Htib & picture from LCD.same with DVDp.

But for 5k,you get only PC spk in that budget which can be used with analoge,but no true surr.
No pls.decide accordingly.

Shree123, if you are ok with chinese product. Totalmall has one F&D(fenda) 5.1 speaker system for 6500/-Rs . I dont know the tech specs but it sounded very decent and looks are also very nice and glossy.

Hi,
for abt 10K, samsung HT-C450 is a good option.
its about 500 W RMS. plays and upscales dvd via hdmi.
it has an optical audio in.. to
connect your tv's optical audio out (40C550 has it)
connect any bluray or dth hd boxes via hdmi directly to tv..
this way any 5.1 dig. audio from bluray/dth hd can be played in the HT..

My brother bought a Panasonic HTIB with HDMI out and USB in for 8 K from Hypercity Goregaon Mumbai
Below average sound but had all inpits outputs we need.

Hi,
well, a bit more clarity is required here.
you mean playing movies from your hdd connected via tv's usb port?
afaik, all digital audio to tv via hdmi or usb will be repeated via tv optical out.
HT-C450 can decode 5.1 from optical input (except HD audio). you can check formats supported at samsung website.

Yes josedandrew, I would like to play my movies from USB port not using DVD player.
As per my understanding from your post, using HDMI we need to connect from LCD to HTIB to get 5.1 channel audio effect. please correct me if i am wrong.

Samsung LA40C550 supports formats: AC3, AVI, MP4, VOB, MKV etc.

no, the hdmi on htib is to send video/audio to tv.
you can connect an optical dig. audio cable from tv to htib.
in theory optical audio can carry 5.1 DTS..
but i think it will carry only 2 channel stereo from tv.
to get around this problem u can either..
1) connect hdd to media player like WDTV and connect WDTV optical out to htib optical in.
2) connect hdd directly to htib usb. but check the video formats supported by htib via usb.
anybody pls. correct me if i am wrong

Hi josedandrew, thanks for the valuable inputs... I was just reading the user manual of my samsung LCD TV and they mentioned that LCD will send 5.1 channel sound to HTIB when connected with optical digital cable.

So, I can buy optical or coaxial digital cable to connect HTIB to get 5.1 channel DTS sound.

If u get free time just check this user manual.

sadly the manual says, only 2 ch audio will be avlbl at optical out when any digital component is connected to tv via hdmi..(its a shame) i think same applies to usb too..
either you should settle for 2 ch audio from tv optical out or connect usb device via a media player or posisbly a bluray player which doubles as a media player and connect optical audio frm mediaplayer to htib.
htib itself can play avi (divx) and wmv sd formats throu its own usb.

I don't think Samsung HT will support HD movies via USB..It is limited to few SD divx format only.. you will not be able to play hi-def movies..
