50c550 or 50pk550+Media Player

This is my first post on HiFivision.com.
I am in hunt for 50 inch or bigger Full HD Plasma Screen. I have shortlisted 50c550 & 50pk550. Rs.68900 & Rs.64800 price quotes received from Pune dealer respectively.
Earlier I decided to buy 50pk550 plus media player (Xtremer / WD TV). But, I read from some threads that 50pk550 has reflection issues which will be problem for me during daytime.
So I decided to buy 50c550. It is Rs.4000 costlier than 50pk550.
I Read that 50c550 has all share feature but dont know if it can do all things which Xtremer can do. And I dont have budget to buy Media Player with 50c550.
I am confused for where to compromise On Reflection issue or Media Player.:o I can compromise on picture quality little bit though.
Any suggestions?

Compromise on media player mate ... That can be bought anytime later but TV can not be purchased over and over so think it over and go for a good TV...

Both 50c550 & 50pk550 are plasmas and so both will be highly reflective.

Good Point. Thanks. But, which is the better one according to you. Thanks again.

Vivek,

As shredder rightly mentioned both C550 and PK550 are reflective. Why don't you audition both in a well lit store - side by side - and see which ones is better? The lighting conditions at home will be much better controlled than that at stores.

Media player will be very useful in the long run. It's firmware can be upgraded unlike TV where you may have limited option.

Picture quality of 50pk550 is better than 50c550. But 50pk550 is more reflective than 50c550. It seems that most of the Hifivians purchased 50pk550. It is value for money plasma TV. I think I should purchase 50pk550 & a good Media Player. Please let me know if anybody in Pune Purchased 50pk550? I have got quote of Rs.64800 for 50pk550. Anybody got / getting better deal than this in Pune?

Yes and many of the panels are dying also ..... Please read thru the LG owners thread carefully.. No rush take your time and buy the best.

I lold....:lol::lol: The PK550 came near to C550 in PQ with regards to the UK/US model and NOT thew Indian stripped down model, even then not outshining the C550(got doubt? ask ChadB).The only question is whether u will have the 5k-7k in pocket and overlook the slightly inferior picture quality or not. Most people here chose to go the latter way and its just fine, each to his own- as simple as that.

Imrahn, I'm glad you are happy with having purchased the C550. Hope it meets/exceeds your expectations and serves you well for many years.

However, i can't quite fathom how you came to the conclusion that ChadB thinks C550 is as good or better than PK550. Here's a link to his reviews and also his ranking of all TVs on a number of parameters.

reviews

PK550 scores 43 overall and C550 scores 37. Only 3 TVs in his ranking have a higher score than PK550 and 2 of them are Kuros.

It'd be good if you can refrain from quoting established reviewers such as ChadB without pointing us to the source to back it up.

^^oops, definitely my fault there....but I had asked him prior about the two and he had mentioned it as a 'toss up' with Samsung having better blacks in a simulated dark environment. So, considering that many features were stripped from the indian LG version which helped it achieve the magical blacks,i *thought* it might be well under the Sammy.

Actually, it was my frustration at LG doing this to Indian customers rather than anything else as i myself had zeroed in on the PK550 before realizing that we were getting PK550R and not PK550.and yea, this shows a bit of my fanboy side as well.Sorry to all.

*kicks himself in the nuts*

Actually this says chad B measured better black level in c550 than lg pk550

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1250816

He didnt like the "hot colors" in c550 hence the low grades given. He gave only 4 out of 10 for color for c550 . lg gets 9/10

The main reason he gave LG good grades because the US version had a 20point color calibration mode which enables him to calibrate the set perfectly

BTW are we even sure ordinary people(videophiles please excuse) like the so called "accurate natural color calibrated look" in TVs here in india.
My folks always want me to swith to the color rich dynamic mode.
I have seen a lot of homes people keep the tv with oversaturated colors

Now i see similar opinion in AVS forum people saying movie mode with accurate color is too dull

With HD material i think both the sets look fantastic and there is not much to choose
.

@Borg & Imrahn: So is it really a toss up between the two in terms of PQ?
Some other points to consider:
Quality: 3-4 members in the forum who have purchased the LG set have had to replace it due to various issues (dead Pixels etc). Does this indicate lack of quality by LG?

Customer Service: LG seems to be pretty responsive towards customer issues and also is prompt in replacing faulty sets. How does Samsung compare there? I have seen a couple if dissatisfied samsung customers here on the forum but is that a one off case or the norm.

Features: Does the Sammy provide more features compared to the LG?

Availability: Are both easily available?

There's a dearth of LG 50PK550 stocks. I have my doubts even if you guys can get the Sammy 50C550 easily in India too. The markets dynamics dictate LCDs and LEDs and so FHD Plasmas have taken a backseat atleast in india.

May be true. I asked in all NXT &Croma stores even many private showrooms. They do not have stock, price and availability details. Only 2 showrooms gave pricing but availability is still unknown.

Sigh! Forget buying a new one. I have a PK550 which stopped working after installation, LG doesn't have stocks, neither can they say when the next batch is coming. They have offered me a refund, but once u see a PK it's a little difficult to go back to a LCD.
