7.1 in 5.1 audio.....

i have only 5.1 set up and my bro send me kick ass blu ray movie which will arrive next week ,it has 7.1 audio i want to know if i play in 5.1 do i get 5.1 hd audio or simple 5.1

Manu, as long as you player or AVR receiver can decode HD Audio, you will get HD audio in 5.1 and/or 7.1.

Spiro, if I remember right, Manu has equipment that is capable of decoding HD Audio. So he easily play it in a 5.1. There is no need for down mixing or changing the codecs.

Only few as you said has true 7.1.

Yes, its best to leave sound unprocessed. Send unprocessed audio from source (select bitstream or passthrough) and receiver can either downmix to 5.1 or ignore two channels depending on settings.

Manu, send the Blu-Ray data in raw format and let the Emotiva process the audio signals. You will get full HD lossless Audio. Since you have only 5.1 speaker set, the system will play the lossless audio in the 5.1 set.
