Acer H5370BD - Impressions

I started looking for options around the same time when this thread got started and after an year of being confused with Projector vs LED TV and then on which projector to select I fixed on getting an acer 5380BD. Nothing beats a first hand feedback and word of mouth from people who have owned it, enjoyed its beauty. Just after a few pages were up I ordered this projector and recieved it around 6 months back, I have been ultra satisfied with it since. You guys are doing wonderful job, just wanted to say Thanks.

BTW I bought it for $399 and Newegg had offers every alternate month then. I had missed a couple of those myself so if you dont see it now you can take a risk and wait, keep checking it and order when you see the offer(I know how difficult it can get to wait to have a hand on this beauty)

I have a slight issue with the screen, I see the upper edge of my screen an inch lesser than the bottom edge horizontally on both sides which makes the screen appear a trapezium rather than a perfect rectangle. My projector is mounted on a table. Is there a way/callibaration to correct that?

Change the keystone settings and check. Try with auto and manual. ;)

The 5380 has come back to $399 and shipping to India with the promotion code EMCWPPC89 at Newegg.com till 13/10/2014, seriously thinking of availing this offer.

Need help...
Planning to buy it in this week...
Thank you for all the help till now
If u can help me with below answers as well...

1) The projector comes with a micro USB B. Can we connect a external harddisk directly to the projector?

How are u guys streaming movies ? I dont feel the need to buy a dvd player and connecting a computer is full of hassles

In short, how can one play movies through External HD without dvd player and computer. Can USB be used? I have xbox but it doesnt support blue ray prints :(

any help will be great

2) I have a living room size of 11x17 but the issue here is that my parents want to have a ceiling fan attached. What should i do with the projector then?
I m planning to have a 120inch display by placing it around 14feets from the wall.
Any help here again will be appreciated.

3) Now coming to HDMI cables ... Can anyone tell me which is the best HDMI cable in indian market(mumbai) and the cost?
I do not want distortion and currently since my flat is getting renovated , I plan to pass the cable through the fall ceiling.
Planning to buy 30ft cable

4) Now about HDMI splitter/matrix: I plan to connect my Xbox and Set top box to projector but at the same time want to connect my settop box to my 24 inch TV as well.
Which HDMI splitter/matrix box delivers good performance?
I dont want to keep removing and inserting HDMI cables as they will cause signal issues

5) Finally the speakers, have u all connected the speakers through the audio Out plug from the projector? How can it be done ?

6) Which speaker system will u suggest in the range of 7-10k which gives best sound quality in that range.

Also, I would like to thank you all for helping with queries till now.
It is a great forum and has helped me alot.

Finally, If any one in Mumbai has H5380BD , i request you to Personal Message me so that i can check the installation and dont mess with the product.

Is it mandatory to buy a UPS? In mumbai in suburbs you dont have power fluctuations. Do u still think one should buy?

First of all congratulations on becoming member of the Acer PJ owners club :clapping::clapping::clapping:

On the UPS part, I picked up a Microtek 1KVA projector and it is not able to support the projector - now Microtek support has agreed on replacing some controller circuit board in the UPS to make it work with the PJ.

Have read on the forum that APC BR1000 is able to support projectors with wattage requirements around 300W. This model's wattage is indicated at 235W - so hope your model should work.

Buying an UPS is safer than waiting for the power failure to happen.

I had bought the APC 1100VA UPS from ebay for 5.5K.

It will ensure the safe shutdown (read, gives enough time for the bulb to cool down) of the projector, if power failure occurs.:)

i think you will need a Mini-B USB cable for connecting to the projector through the USB port supplied in the projector.

Something like a Mini-B to Standard-A plug or MIni-B to Mini-B cable

Try putting it in the table, or buy a table fan, or wall fan. ?

Nope, am not from mumbai. ;)

Yes you can. Its not mandatory to have a UPS with projector. We usually connect it to UPS, since there are power outages and chances of power fluctuations in my area.

Nope. i haven't tried it. This method should work, since its the same said in the projector manual too.

Considering u have H5380BD can u check connecting your HD to the projector and confirm if it is getting read?
Hope so i m not asking too much.
The reason to ask is if it cant connect the HD i will have to buy a media player from likes of Amkette or WD.

I will try to do it once i am home. I don't think i have the correct cable with me to check this.:o

I am connecting my bdp player to the denon 1312 and then to projector.
So i am connecting my HD directly to the bdp player through the USB.

Hope so i m not asking too much..

Not at all.. :) i had many doubts too..hehe

Thanks Jit for the help,
Still waiting to understand :
1) Any proud owner of Acer H5380BD from Mumbai? If anyone is there and reading this please PM me.
2) Not sure Jit has the connector to check the HD. If anyone has tested USB socket of the Projector please put some light on it

Manvi,

While I own the earlier model, went through the manual online to check. 5380bd does not seem to support reading and playing content directly from the USB port. The port as per the manual is just for firmware upgrades.

So better plan to connect a computer (recommended) or invest in a blu ray player with HD playback support.

Seems like jsanand is right.. Just had a look at the pdf again and in the connections its showing connected to the laptop. But mentioned in the last section as for firmware upgrade/USB control..
