Acer H5370BD - Impressions

Koushik, The reflection is there only for bright scenes but not to the extend that it annoys the eye, maybe the dark red shade helped...

If we use a screen, can this be sorted, will the screen absorb the light and doesn't throw it back? Is this one advantage of having a screen?

Use matt finish paint for side walls, and you should go as dark as possible to avoid reflections. The pain is that, the contrast levels get a hit when the reflections from side walls hit the screen. However, this one seems to be a great HT. Congrats and enjoy the "Big" days! :clapping:

Prem,

IMO, The reflection on side walls primarly due to 'Asian Royale' which tend to give more reflection on side angles. Even you hangup a screen, the side wall reflection can be reduced only if you use matt finish such as 'Asian Premier Emulsion' which will diffuse more instead of reflect. IMO, I will not recomend 'Royale' in HT room.

Thanks,
Swamy

Exactly Swamy, the reflection is due to Royale emulsion. I have Royale in my 4 year old home and the reflection fades with time. So I hope it settes down with time. It is better to avoid the costly Royale emulsion for HT side walls... but for screen application, you can use Royale.

Reflections from sidewalls don't hit back as there is a thick black border...

Following the laws of reflection, it is impossible for the light coming from screen/wall to the side wall to hit back the screen. It just don't happens, rest assured :)

Hello koushik, I think I was not able to explain properly what I meant to.
In a closed room high brightness scenes on projector screen can reflect from multiple walls and increase the overall ambient light in the room which in turn reduces the perceived contrast of the screen, rest assured am actually having the same issue in my HT due to light coloured walls :)

That is happening due to the reflected lights falling on your eyes from walls and there can be only 4 areas, each on side walls, the ceiling and the floor. This is what creating the perception of lower contrast. That makes sense.

Also, reflection from back wall, the one opposite to the screen. The thumb rule is to minimise the number of reflective surfaces in the HT room other than the screen. Any sort of other reflections will finally take a hit on the projection quality

Added a APC BR 1100 UPS to the PJ, it works without any problems. BTW, I had multiple occurrences of the power going out, the PJ comes back without issues. May be because the lamp is new, anyways this issue has been taken care now with the UPS.

Another update regarding the UPS.

APC 600 and 800 VA UPS are not supported by this Projector, I tried all of this and finally had to settle at the 1000VA UPS.

I think it is not Watts, It is VA.
Why 600/800 VA will not support? Any reson?
I attached a 800 VA Bed type APC to my PJ. (It is modified sine wave)

It didn't stay put when abruptly put off from mains, maybe the projectors bulb requires more power to stay put. We started with 600VA which technically should support a 235Watt PJ, but it didn't nor the 800VA... finally the 1000VA could function without powering off.

Seeing a lot of projectors in the range of Rs. 2,33,000 being discussed in this forum, I was thinking I got my Acer for 23,000, what a VFM deal...

This was exactly my calculation when I purchased a ups for my pj. Started with 800VA and ended up in 1.1kva.

Hey, I am purchasing this projector too after reading your review, hope it serves me well!...How is your projector usage, still performing strongly>

Clocked 200 hours with it as of now, awesome performance and never regretted the purchase. This projector makes it possible to have a cinema at home at a fraction of cost.

Have you got any chance to check the dth sd,hd channels with ur projector or this only for movies,is this will be good in 10*10 room, what is the miminum distance to get throw of 8*5 on wall.

@Premblr and others contributing to this wonderful thread- need some information. I have ordered this projector through amazon for my dedicated HT room. Should receive it in a week or so. Room dimension are 11.5 ft (width)X 13.5 ft (Length). TV is wall mounted on the same wall which screen will go on to.

1. Screen- Thinking of a 106" screen in 16:9 aspect ratio. Can you suggest good reasonable places to buy a screen in Hyderabad and get it installed?
2. Wall Mount for Projector- Looking to wall mount, as do not want to tamper with the false ceiling. Good wall mounts? Preferably available locally (looking at installation services).

I have one con-
If you select video file other than 720p,projector image looks less sharp.
Or you need a better scaling source player.
