Hi everyone
I have gone thru many post here and confused as to whether I should buy used stuff or go for brand new. I want a GOOD music system within the range of 60K to 70K. I am not very fond of cinema and so this will be used for listening music mostly indian filmy song, gazals etc. I also want to have a tuner so that we could hear radio also. Integrated amplifier does not consist tuner, therefore whether I should look for any AVR or stick to amplifier plus tuner. Does it good to look olx daily and pick some good looking/reviewd stuff or its better to go for new within my budget. In the mean time I have a conversation going on with some one for Marantz pm 6004 amplifier which is approx six month old and finally asking for 27K. I want new speaker and short listed speakers are 1. Mordaunt short mezzo 2, 2. Q accoustics 2020i, 3.Boston accoustics a26.

Please advise/guide me on following:

1.Whether I should go for Marantz pm 6004 amp
2.Which speaker should I go for
3.Do I really need any player or can I play music connecting my laptop or phone or ipod
4.What cables I need to connect these stuff.

Many thanks in advance for giving attention and spending your valuable time for me.

Better
Integrated Amplifier + Tuner instead of AVR or Stereo Receiver
If You Have a cd collection or going to collect it go for a cd player as a sorce
If youa are planning to play audio files from pc or ipod get a dac and connect b/w pc and amp
cables, start with low cost cables and upgarde then u can feel the change
I think some alternates for tuner
for used stuff check hifivision for sale by owner - u can trust compared to olx or flickr
check hifimart for the price ideas
for a detailed review about the speakers amps u r considering, I am not the right person
Let it be by experts

the usher s520 is an extremely good speaker at that price point. you can also look at monitor audio bronze and kef q series

Do you plan buing coaxial or optical cables? I had a good read about the differences between two recently.

The cables totally depend on the source. Go for a htpc kind of PC, run xbmc or foobar or jriver.

The one thing you are seriously neglecting is a good quality DAC.

Now regarding speakers, you should first decide whether floorstanders or bookshelves are your thing. Decent quality floorstanders give you the typical HiFi sound which actually sounds breathtaking after listening to cheap systems.

But good quality bookshelves or ,monitors are even one cut above but seriously lack bass and depth so they really need a good quality sub.

Try to listen to a decent pair of floorstanders, knock on the wood to hear if it sounds like a phatta or solid piece of engineering. Try lifting it to see how heavy it is. At least 20-25kgs per piece should be good.

All subjective based on my desi fundas of course :-)

yea, DAC of a good quality would be even more important here.
And I'm absolutely for a floorstanders - the difference is huuge!

Thanks friend

As already said - I have taken Marantz pm 6004 amp and now I am bringing Q accoustics concept 20 speaker. I have read in many threads that marantz pm6004 would not drive floorstanders and therefore I gave pass to floorstanders. I have also ordered QED speaker cable and really do not know whether these are optical or coaxial.

I have with me one philips dvd player which I will use right now, I have in mind to buy one dac later on so that I could connect my laptop or ipod.

I am not getting a clear picture on your source for playing music.

Please note that co axial or optical cables are used only for transferring digital signals . Your Amp does not have digital input option so you will have to connect through regular RCA interconnect cables.

The q accoustics 2020i have max rating of 75 w and the amp should be able to drive them well though speakers with 90 db sensitivity would have been better.
In any case please audition the speakers before you buy ,each individual will perceive the speakers differently however good the reviews may be

At limited budget always go for a bookshelf rather than floorstander at same price. Good BS in moderate sized room will never lack bass for music listening. What is your exclusive budget for speaker alone?
Aviano 2 and MA BX2 are two to consider in mid 20 range.

I have bought RCA interconnect cables for connecting player to amp and asked for qed speaker cable for connecting speaker to amplifier.

Regarding speaker I am about to buy Q accoustics concept 20 speaker and not 2020i and this has 88 db sensitivity. Due to constraint of availability in Indore I could not audition this and trying to buy only on the basis of reviews available on the net.

I received quote of MA BX2 for Rs. 39600 so no more in mid 20 range.
