Plz anyone clarify
My Airtel HD STB sotware ver.450 up to date?
My receiver shows the sat name Insat-4CR
SW version 4.5.0.001 dt May 25 2012
Kindly clarify

AFAIK, the latest software for Airtel HD STB is ver. 452 for Homecast HD STB.
What make is your HD-STB having..Hoemcast, Huawei or anything else?
I have Homecast HD-DVR which has ver. 451.

You can try to update the software manually as follows:
- When TV and STB are ON, just switch off the STB from Main-Power (don't switch off the STB from Remote)
- Wait for 30 seconds and switch the STB power again...when the TV shows the message 'Please wait initializing', press 'EXIT' button twice followed by 2465 immediately..and then the software download message appears.

But I would recommend, better stay on the current version if the above method becomes unsuccessful. Airtel will someday automatically update the software version for your STB.

Also, if your STB still showing Satellite Insat-4CR, then call to customer care to get the Dish Alignment and Satellite changed to SES-7. And for this, they won't charge anything.

Airtel DTH has shifted its operations to SES-7 from Insat...almost 2 years now. But Insat is still available for some more time and hence you would be able to see only few channels.

All new channels' addition is taking place on the Transponders (TPs) of SES-7 only. So, once you shift to SES-7, you'll be able to watch all the channels (whichever you have subscribed).

Is there any quality difference for the SD channels between SES-7 & INSAT ?



I am also facing some issue that the regional channels Picture Quality is excellent in the night i.e. 10PM till morning 7AM.
The Signal Strength & Quality is:

Tuner One
Strength : 80 & Quality : 60

Tuner Two
Strength : 65 & Quality : 60

My AirTel HD Recorder already shows SES-7 so i guess no issue.
I have seen the version it seems it is 450 so done the Update as recommended by you later yet it shows the same i.e.450 only.

I think you're already well set with your STB. So no need to do anything as of now. Don't worry about software update, it will take place automatically as and when available from Airtel's end for your STB.
And your STB's signal strength and quality are also at sufficient level. Unless you don't see any quality difference, it's fine.
Somewhere I read if you keep your cable wire straight (from Dish to STB) without much bending and connectors in the way, signal quality may increase.

Ohooo. In my case the DISH is far off. Almost 15 meter wire was required. I can relocate to require just 5 meter but at 100 feet distance there was tree in between so kept it away.

Yeah, my Airtel HD-DVR software was upgraded from version 457 to version 503 few days back.

2 of the following important changes I noticed in version 503:-

1. Airtel HD-DVR with v503 software now supports 5.1 Dolby audio over HDMI along with Optical output.
2. HD channels now display DolbyDigital sign if the channel has DD audio.

I have recently upgraded by airtel HD DVR version to 503 and i see a significant drop in both HD and SD channels using the HDMI cable. I repent myself for doing this.
