Update:
Today I got a mail from Nithyanand to whom I spoke regarding this issue. This is the mail.
Dear Mr. Jignesh,
Greetings from Tata Sky.
This has reference to your email dated 18th September 2011 addressed to our Chief Marketing Officer Mr. Vikram Mehra, and our discussion regarding the picture resolution via component after software upgrade.
We have had to download new software in our HD STBs to apply content protection on the analogue outputs of the STB which includes the component output. This is a critical requirement by major content producers, as they all require that their premium product is fully protected. This technology can only be applied to SD signals so we had to disable the HD analogue component output & only permit SD.
We took this decision to implement this change so we could bring the best content to our customers. Our survey results show that virtually all our HD customers are using the HDMI port on the STB. As the HDMI output is already protected with HDCP almost all our subscribers would not be affected by the change. It appears that you are one of the rare cases of a HD subscriber with a TV that does not support HDMI.
Appreciate your understanding and if there is any way we can make good the inconvenience caused to you, please do let us know.
Assuring you of our best attention at all times,
Warm Regards
Nithyanand Murthy
