No HD after software update in Tata sky HD

No Jignesh i dont think the cable will work as pointed out by other members.
However in ebay i found HDMI to component converters box( with DAC ). It might work. But they are for INR 4500 . Does anybody has idea about it ?

There is no update from TATA Sky still and the tech people have still no clue.
We are doomed my friends

i am talking about getting dolby digital through hdmi, not video, now i need both hdmi and spdif(for DD), because with only hdmi i am getting only pcm
i dont need hd through component

My brother says this problem is fixed now and DD is coming with just hdmi and coax cable not needed anymore:yahoo:.
I am away from home and so cant verify this personally.

Post the software update i have problems with Favourites key on remote. If I press Fav button it takes me to channel 100 and not to 901 where my favorties start. You have to manually go t0 901 by using num keys to start watching favourites.

Anyone else has this issue?

Yes I had this problem post upgrade.
Workaround is first remove all fav channels and save.
Exit from menu, once again go back to user settings/fav menu and add your channels. this worked for me.

For the 5.1 channel sound issue, this is what I did to fix it:

The options on Organizer -> User Settings -> Sound Settings show SPDIF and HDMI... These are two options that can be set independently of the other however SPDIF is the first option (similar to the default option of a drop-down menu) and hence it gives the feeling as if it is the preferred output. All I did was under both SPDIF and HDMI, I selected Dolby and hit the blue button on my remote... And Tadddaaa... the AVR now correctly reports Dolby Digital output in 5.1 channels through my HDMI!

Hope it helps others. Just ensure that you set both to Dolby and that essentially does the trick.

Update:

Today I got a mail from Nithyanand to whom I spoke regarding this issue. This is the mail.

Dear Mr. Jignesh,

Greetings from Tata Sky.

This has reference to your email dated 18th September 2011 addressed to our Chief Marketing Officer Mr. Vikram Mehra, and our discussion regarding the picture resolution via component after software upgrade.

We have had to download new software in our HD STBs to apply content protection on the analogue outputs of the STB which includes the component output. This is a critical requirement by major content producers, as they all require that their premium product is fully protected. This technology can only be applied to SD signals so we had to disable the HD analogue component output & only permit SD.

We took this decision to implement this change so we could bring the best content to our customers. Our survey results show that virtually all our HD customers are using the HDMI port on the STB. As the HDMI output is already protected with HDCP almost all our subscribers would not be affected by the change. It appears that you are one of the rare cases of a HD subscriber with a TV that does not support HDMI.

Appreciate your understanding and if there is any way we can make good the inconvenience caused to you, please do let us know.

Assuring you of our best attention at all times,

Warm Regards

Hehe, I told you Jignesh, this is how Nithyanand has always been. While this seems to be a genuine explanation, Nithyanand typically takes weeks and month to work on the issues and then take a U turn telling either there is no issue or they can't do anything to fix the issues.

Welcome to the club of unresolved issues by Tatasky. Atleast issue reported by you is justified by them, mine is just dragged either by disguising that there is no issue (even for MONO audio they claim its stereo!) or telling that they can't do anything to fix or at the most telling they are "working" on these issues and will come back after few months to fix them.

In May he told me that I am the ONLY customer whose concerns he could not resolve despite multiple meetings and had suggested that TS would work on resolving them "eventually" in few months only to see them worsening (DRC applied in 1 to 2 HD channels to 3 now and Star World, Star Plus coming with mono audio at times, Star Cricket with AM quality Mono or near mono).

He had told me during the second week of September that within "few" day, there will be another firmware upgrade which will FINALLY enable DD Passthrough HDMI on TS+HD box like they "reenabled" it after months for TS HD. As you can see, Nithyanand has completely omitted that issue while responding to you!

How do we upgrade Firmware/Software @ TS+ HD(No rec). ? pl advice.

When ur stb is on, close it from the mains without switching off from remote.
After some time switch on stb from mains and when 'please wait initializing' comes on screen, press back button twice and then press 2465. Software will start downloading.

note- only latest software available over the air released by tata sky will b downloaded and do not try this many times as it will damage software downloader. So keep caution. And this works in SD boxes donno abt HD STB.
