All That Jazz ...

Thanks to a recommendation by @thedude I’ve been using the CLZ Music app for a while now:

Since the app provides lots of album information, including cover art and track times, it’s very easy to select the next disc for your listening session. You can also do totally random stuff like making a collage of all your classic 50s and 60s Blue Notes. Provided, of course, you’re totally lukha on a Saturday night :)

You're making Don Was' job easier. He now has a ready reckoner to pick the next albums for reissue :)

Folks looking to get into Jazz or hear one of the best 50’s had to offer with great recording quality :
Mordern Jazz Quartet - Pyramid
Available in mono and stereo. Mono sounds a tad better.

Folks that want to hear the “Daddies of the Biggest guys in Jazz” and the beauty of their improvisations :
Lionel Hampton and All Stars live at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium 1947 - Stardust and especially the track Stardust. Everything else according to me is just pale in comparison. Available in mono and stereo. Mono sounds a whole lot better.

Why the above recommendations ? 1) These two were the first two albums of jazz I listened to as a child(3-4 years old or even younger) often and they still remain top of my list.
2) Improvisations are so melodious that you wouldn't believe they were spontaneous. One can hum entire tracks and every bar like a normal song.
3) Switch off the room lights post dinner, play the above, turn the volume up high, listen with your eyes closed to heighten your auditory senses and Ascend to Heaven, only to be rudely brought back down to earth with a thud when the better half screams to let you know you are spending the rest of night on the sofa ! Sometimes you just want that so…..

Enjoy !

I think you've got all the BNs covered! Those pictures are the catalog in full :)

Unfortunately not true, Jayant!
Below are some of the OOP albums I’ve been trying to get my hands on for ages. And yes, I know some lucky devils probably have some of these on vinyl :)

Have been listening to this album of recent.

Don't know if this has been posted here before but the John Mclaughlin Trio is definitely up there for me. It's a very unique trio in that, all three members of the band are lead musicians, a very interesting dynamic. And Trilok Gurtu, is well, Trilok Gurtu. If you like this, I'd recommend watching the entire performance.

Either I have too many CDs or else too little brains. Perhaps a bit of both!
Just realized I have the album below in my collection, with two tracks by the above trio. While it lacks the atmosphere of a live concert, it’s still an amazing listen. Di Piazza is also no slouch in the bass chair.

This is just brilliant.
Piazza is a unique bassist, absolutely shreds!

Some new age jazz worth listening 🎧

Very cool!
I was just thinking that this could easily have been on Lalo Schifrin’s soundtrack for Enter the Dragon. Then I saw 50/50’s post :)

Absolutely... that's what came to my mind too when i listened to it first. It qualifies as an OST.
