Here's French jazz trio from 1970 consisting of the harpsichord, cello and tabla.
The musicians on here make up 3/5th of the Bach Modern Quintet. While the 'baroque' in their name probably came from the use of the harpsichord, musically speaking it's anything but. Leaning more towards avant-garde jazz although at times it goes into prog and indo-jazz fusion territory. The last track 'Cesar Go Back Home' almost sounds like an instrumental version of Beefheart's Diddy Wah Diddy.
Despite releasing on the iconic French label; Saravah, the artists on here were rather unknown to me, although they seem to have recorded solo albums for the label too. The producer Pierre Barouh also worked on the stellar Brigitte Fontaine & Art Ensemble of Chicago record, 'Comme à la radio' for Saravah as well.
Jan Johansson - Jazz på svenska (1964)
This is the best selling Swedish jazz album of all time, selling a quarter of a million copies. Yet, not a lot of people know about it. Just includes Jan on piano and Georg Riedel on double bass playing jazz arrangements of Swedish folk songs. Highly recommended. Listen here
