Aramex Shop & Ship - Get anything from US/UK Toooooo much cheaper than Borderlinx

When I get it, teeth may shine.

I'm not counting my smiles until they are hatched.

Bottom line: it's a great deal less than an air ticket --- although I do rather enjoy trips to UK, preferably at warmer times of year :)

36GBP, including British VAT, weight (according to Aramex) 1.14kg.

Well, this may turn out to be one of those expensive shopping mistakes. I've made plenty of those in my life, and I have no doubt I'll make plenty more!

(What's more, it is apparently on route for Mumbai. Well, the logistics of international shipping do not always make sense. I am sure it will be routed according to their convenience/cost benefit)

Well, if it is 1.14kg then the charges seem to be fine. Remember my first post in this thread? I have mentioned that you should be prepared for Rs.500/- per 500 grams or part thereof. So, for products weighing 1.01kg to 1.5kg, it was always to be Rs.1,500/- approx.

They charge 10.3% service tax on Rs.1,196/-, what you saw on their website, so it was to be Rs.1,319/- anyways. That is the exact amount I paid last month when I bought a Hard Disk Dock from Amazon, US.

For me Aramex (even Borderlinx if you like it better) is for:

1. Smaller (light weight) products
2. You want them to be delivered quickly.

Else, shopmyworld, icc world may (or may not) be better.

Yes. In fact, I reviewed the whole thread since last posting.

If an object is low-priced, then the carriage charges are always going to seem dis-proportionate, I suppose. The question is then whether one wants it sufficiently, or sufficiently urgently to merit ordering it, rather than just putting it on the shopping list for the next foreign visit.

It is a value judgement. As i reminded myself in a previous post, it is a lot less than an air fare.

So far, I haven't done much on-line buying from abroad, so there is a lot of exploring of these various services to be done. Thank you for your help!

(current status: cleared from customs)

Well, I always (4 times so far) paid shipping & customs "Cash on Delivery" whereas Thad's card was charged for the shipping.

I guess, custom has to be paid by cash in either case whatever Aramex actually pays to the custom dept. They give a receipt of that.

Ignore my previous post about being my shipment being charged to my card: it was rubbish!

Necessity: engaging brain before applying fingers to keyboard.

The amount I had paid, on card, was the registration amount as none of the voucher codes worked for me.

Today, the item was delivered, and I paid Rs1,319 at the door. I was about to have a fight with the poor delivery guy, but, whilst I sent my wife out to get the details in Tamil, and I checked the bank account, I realised the big mistake I was making!

... whereas Thad's card was charged for the shipping.
My mistake: no, it wasn't.

:o :o :o

Many blushes!

Now, I am quite satisfied, and look forward to the next time :)

Maybe for small items, Aramex is good. Will give it a try !!

I imported 2 X 50 lbs each speakers from US through shopmyworld. Prices offered by them was 8k cheaper than borderlinx, ICCWorld and others. Only issue is they take 10-12 days.

Best part about shopyourworld is you can get the exact estimate of the product before placing the order. Their customer service (Alan and Sandy) are very helpful.

Please be aware that for items >5kg, there is additional overweight charges which doesnot appear in the cart. For a 20kg TV i was quoted around 5K as additional charge.

I just ordered couple of items from Amazon to my aramex address. Do I need to Inform or send any details to aramex or every thing will be taken care???

Leaving off-topic toothbrushes happily aside, I'm now beginning to think of headphones :D

There are also a couple of very small items on the odds and ends list: one to convert a standard studio mic to USB, and one to convert a "plug-in-power" stereo mic to two channels normal phantom-powered for input to a mixer. All the sort of stuff I'd use only once in a blue moon, and which attracts disapproval from my [Mrs.] Financial Director ;)

Well, I'm the first timer here, but it seems that, assuming you gave your home address when you registered, no, you do not have to do anything except wait for your package to arrive. You can track it on their site.

Hey Guys,
Could you please let me know the procedure to ship through Aramex? I am looking forward to order a oppo bdp83 from Amazon. I have had a very bad experience with Borderlinx where my yamaha AVR was delivered damaged and Borderlinx did not take responsibility and these days they do not even reply to my mails. Will be posting picture of the damaged product along with the correspondence with their customer service. I have registered on Aramex but without a credit card which I thought was the norm when I first visited. I would appreciate if any of you mates could mention the procedure to order on Aramex.

Thanks,
Amit

They tell you on the site. They will send you two addresses, one for USA and one for UK.

You just proceed as per normal purchase, except you give the Aramex address as your delivery address.

Also, do go back to the first page of this thread and read at least the first couple of pages. Should leave you with no doubts.

For all the guys who missed the bus like me there is a bad news. The coupons is no longer working. So it is $35 for membership.

It says enter valid promo code!

Edit : Is this a new code or what? Let me see if this one works.

Edit 2 : Yeah it works!

The promo codes didn't work for me. Oh well, never mind!

I also got an email from them assuring me that there is no truth at all in rumours that they are closing down in India! Well, before that, I wasn't worried, because I hadn't heard the rumour! :ohyeah:

(The teeth are shining again today: now I can buy hifi! :D )
