I am also a proud owner of Ali's stands. One word. AWESOME! Sending necessary spanners along with the stands & spikes was a nice touch!

can you move it a foot from the side wall too?
or there are space constraints?

Yes, it definitely made difference when I didn't have a sub. But with a sub no perceivable difference after crossing over at 100Hz (at 80Hz it still boomed). So I let it close to the wall. Now speakers are separated a bit more so I get a slightly wider sound stage :)

Ali made speaker stands of granite and SS and a hi-fi rack for me and shipped them to me at Kolkata. (The granite part was done locally as per his specifications) and the quality and the aesthetics has to be seen to be believed. They are truly unique products. Thank you Ali!

hi magma - looks nice. Just wondering how to consume these accessories. Any suggestions? First thing I need is a good rack, solid and unshakable by a very naughty kid.

Helium

thank you for the appreciation
but my wife,my staff and my dad would exactly think the opposite of those 3 qualities in that order!

you would require a 3 column design with either wood or tough glass
Ideally plexi is the best but i just found out it costs almost 1600 bucks a shlef!
no wonder no one ventures in that direction
(its acoustically super inert and looks fantastic too)

What is plexi?
Plexi or plexiglass is a glass-like transparent material made of acrylic. It is used by many in making shelves for AV racks and even subwoofer builds(instead of wood). The plinth of my project experience turntable is also made of plexiglass.

Magma, could you please share why using plexi is a good idea. Acoustic properties? I am considering a DIY build of a suspended rack for my TT using plexi glass shelves and wire (like Shaizada's). I have used glass in my other AV rack and must say it is a bad idea. How different would plexi be? I am inclined to use plexi as it will match my TT and also allow me to include glassart using LED lighting, but don't want another resonating rack.

TIA

@santhol
i have editted by previous post to say why plexi is a good idea

Thanks Magma, but what exactly does acoustically super inert mean and what does inertness bring into the equation. How inert are wood, mdf and glass? Is there an online chart that you look up?

ps: Dictionary meaning for inert means motionless or static.

theres no dictionary or literature to say what is inert and what is not
Its just my opinion that plexi would be acostically inert ( this is not neccesarily good since some rack builders actually WANT to impart a flavour to the music by using various materials)
For e.g i read about where a south indian based builder uses a glass ball to impart liveliness to the music.
i read it from a link on the forum
it was a recent thread where an older gentlemn was standing on a shelf to show its strength
i cant seem to remember which thread

anyway it is belived that the materials you use in the rack impart a flavour to the music ( though i dont agree too much with this theory)
Glass supposedly sounds harsh, wood supposedly giives warmth and plexi supposedly does NOTHING making it INERT

the above are just beliefs of various people
Though i belive in part im not totally sold yet
