Audio hiFi Accesories

I bought 6 of these solid brass footers and stuck them under my quicksilver monoblock tube amps. I spent about 4 hours listening and these are my observations:
1. There is a definite increase in bass extension. All the tracks I am used to I can hear more punch and tightness in bass.
2. Overall resolution feels enhanced, and I can hear more detail in the soundstage.
I think these are fantastic value for what little I paid for them.
Thanks Magma.
Cheers
Sid

And I removed the brass ( the "S" are important :) ) spikes under my speakers last month and stuck Anabond (forget the "L" :)) ball under them now. No more glass in between as well. I hear no reduction in SQ. In fact at first I thought it was better, but soon I forgot how it sounded with spikes and find no flaws in it to add them back.

Did I imagine the SQ improved when I put them earlier last year? Audiophillia is a vexing hobby :ohyeah:

Edit: Most folks have to mind their P's and Q's. I also take care to mind my S's and L's ;)

Cheers

Hi Magma,
I admire your passion and willingness to make stuff for others, that usual DIY'ers don't aspire for. I wish you made DAC's also.

Allow me to go a little off-topic here...
HFVians, please refer me forum-member(s) like magma who can make DAC's that rival CDP's /DAC's in 20k range. My budget is approx 7k only:o. I read somewhere that our member Gvenu assembled a really good sounding DAC kit in similar cost.

Thanks in advance...

Sono bhai add me to the list too... :)

This is a great forum.

gobble, what would be HFV without you:)

Please find attached in the link some benefits of using brass vs other materials as footers. Mapleshade is generally well regarded in US for their racks and brass footers.

Brass Footers-Mapleshade

And I should add a disclaimer just in case I get laughed at like the previous post - Your mileage may vary, but I definitely noticed improvement - albeit subjective (I plan to measure the improvement in bass extension with my db meter)- and for the low cost of the footers that Magma provides (unlike the mapleshade ones, though they are not that expensive either) - this is perhaps the most inexpensive way to get better sound. I am planning to order more to place under my other equipment.

Cheers

Gobble, you can play mono track with one speaker without glass and brass spikes and other with them and listen the difference at same time with balance knob.

Mods would certainly appreciate that.

Where have you been? HFV certainly misses you. Any new DIY project you are working on ? What's update on enclosure ? Did you built 'My reference' ? Sorry for lots of "Q's" :)

I was lying low in a commando style operation. :) Actually trying hard not to let the Internet dominate my life. Last few months barely read the forum for 5 mins a day. The enemy is the World Wide Internet and I am trying to save the world from it. :D

All projects are pending my desperate house search. I told my landlord I will move by jan 1st and yet to find a suitable house till date!!

Cheers

hehehe ... May be you are listening to your music way too loud. Make your landlord HFV member, then he wont mind. All the best for home search.

Sorry magma for being off topic.

reviving a pretty old thread since i found something interesting- so i built it
now im sharing it with you guys

i had always been fascinated with something known as a "Isobase" or Iso rocks or simply "equipment platforms"
Today it is built by quite a few guys but these guys were one of the original builders and were the pioneers of such bases

Isolation Series
Symposium Acoustics: Platforms
Silent Running Audio builder of the world class Ohio Class audio

here is my version of an Equipment platform which also doubles up as a rack shelf (this is a heavily inspired platform)

such multielement platforms/soundbases combine the benefits of different materials using their best properties, at the same time compensating for their individual ill effects. Collectively the base translates into a sonically neutral platform providing an unparalled sense of realism to music.
The top layer granite which is a favorite for many enthusiasts offers a high mass super hard surface in addition to a fantastic aesthetic appearance. The inner conduction layer operates as a band-pass filter, as it transfers energy to the lower damping layer. The lower layer is carefully selected homogeneous MDF substrate (not ones that are commercially available in the market) which we find to be an excellent medium to absorb and drain vibrations at the same time adding no signature to the music.
The result is a sonically-neutral platform that will enhance clarity and detail, without any of the harshness usually associated with the use of crystalline materials. These platforms offer more natural sounding performance than carbon/composite, Plexiglass or HPL-coated MDF designs and are far less "resonant" than solid teak, solid-granite, glass or metal.
This is a true"functionally-reversible" platform. With the granite side facing up, you'll achieve a more lively sound, and with the wood side facing up, you'll get a laid back and more restrained sound. Most of the time granite side up offers best results but we strongly believe that music is subjective and what floats your boat may drown ours.

i found the results quite spectacular

You can read more about it on the soundfoundations website where details of each layer and explanations are given

Here are some premium accessories in the works

pic 1 shows the original ceraball from finite elements germany
pic 2 shows the original on the left and the SoundFoundations version 1 on the right
pic 3 shows a set of My version 2 on the left ( background ) and soundfoundations version 1 on the right
pic 4 shows the opened ceraball - original finite elements sample on the left and the soundfoundations replica on the right
pic 5 soundfoundations version 1
pic 6 My version 2
pic 7 This is the soundfoundations version 3 using a steel ball instead of a ceramic one
pic 8 is another form of ball isolation we are working on ( inputs and guides from SHANTI ) This is the purest form of isolation according to some.Unlike the ceraball the ball here is steeland is not arrested in a cup but is freely placed in a saucer. This allows for absolute point contact. One should note that when electronics are loaded on this form of isolation they will move/sway if pushed ( about 3-5mm) and then return back to neutral position. This is the purest suspension/isolation system.similar to "feet of silence"

we have managed to replicate not only the materials but also the manufacturing process down to the ceramic ball too.
The aesthetic design will be tweaked though for obvious reasons

Our next project is this

Excellent work Ali! Kindly pm me the pricing.
Cheers,
Sid

Man, you rock!

thanks for the support guys

sid
will send you pricing on PM
currently the samples ive made dont have threaded holes on the bottom side ( for screwing onto electronic equipment ( which is an option )
currently they are non screwable feet on which equipment is placed ( which in any case is as 80% people use them since the threads rarely match up in may cases)

Awesome finish.

By any chance are you planning to launch a TV stand or AV rack which can accomidate a 50 inch TV ? :)

but unfortunately most (not all ) HT clients are not into serious stereo audio and hence do not appreciate or pay money for a serious rack made for 2 channel ( and then modded for a TV)
For them there are so many ready made AV racks at reasonable prices (these accommodate TVs as well)
The HT market is huge and very different from the market that soundfoundations has targeted

i always tell such customers to wall mount the TV and then use one of my racks

Here are some pedestals originally built for POWER amps but can be used as platforms for most electronics

Would do wonders when used on the run of the mill carpenters AV unit since it is heavy and will isolate the equip from the rest of the unit

shanti on the forum is credited for the design
Used his inputs

the Platform is a trilayer composite of wood,MDF,marine Plywood and thermocol

(Yes thermocol is an amazing isolater! when used correctly)

This pair is actually for sale since the client later opted for a smaller size

size 22.5 by 15.5 inch

Hi Ali

YOur speaker stands finally found a worthy couple in my N2X bookshelves.:D
I was looking to build a rack for my stereo set up. The Components are;

1. Accoustic Portrait Pre: HWD 5" X 17" X 9.5"
2. Accoustic Portrait Power: Same as above
3. CD Player: 4.5" X 17.5" X 13" (Feet within 12" of depth for CD Player)

I would prefer if the height of the rack is 21-22". (The cd player will add another 4.5")

Do you have anything that fits the bill? Could you pm price if at all? Maybe we could use some of those planks you have for sale.
Thanks
Gijo
