reviving a pretty old thread since i found something interesting- so i built it
now im sharing it with you guys
i had always been fascinated with something known as a "Isobase" or Iso rocks or simply "equipment platforms"
Today it is built by quite a few guys but these guys were one of the original builders and were the pioneers of such bases

here is my version of an Equipment platform which also doubles up as a rack shelf (this is a heavily inspired platform)
such multielement platforms/soundbases combine the benefits of different materials using their best properties, at the same time compensating for their individual ill effects. Collectively the base translates into a sonically neutral platform providing an unparalled sense of realism to music.
The top layer granite which is a favorite for many enthusiasts offers a high mass super hard surface in addition to a fantastic aesthetic appearance. The inner conduction layer operates as a band-pass filter, as it transfers energy to the lower damping layer. The lower layer is carefully selected homogeneous MDF substrate (not ones that are commercially available in the market) which we find to be an excellent medium to absorb and drain vibrations at the same time adding no signature to the music.
The result is a sonically-neutral platform that will enhance clarity and detail, without any of the harshness usually associated with the use of crystalline materials. These platforms offer more natural sounding performance than carbon/composite, Plexiglass or HPL-coated MDF designs and are far less "resonant" than solid teak, solid-granite, glass or metal.
This is a true"functionally-reversible" platform. With the granite side facing up, you'll achieve a more lively sound, and with the wood side facing up, you'll get a laid back and more restrained sound. Most of the time granite side up offers best results but we strongly believe that music is subjective and what floats your boat may drown ours.
i found the results quite spectacular
You can read more about it on the soundfoundations website where details of each layer and explanations are given
