Best 42" plasma at Rs 40,000....

hi ,
i was in the hunt for 42" and got my eyes stuck on panny x20(offer:40K) initially.

then saw V20(offer:60K) liked it too .. or if i spend 60K shud i consider LG 50PJ350(offer:55 K with attractive emi options)

My main viewing wil be Dish DTH & DVDs

so now i am confused as to which one to pick.

Panasonic X20 - HD Ready,Value for money
Panasonic V20 - Full HD,Neo PDP panel...
LG 50 PJ 350 - HD Ready,Bigger size.

guys need help...

Mate, you just bumped your budet by 20k so there may be so many options in that league. You may want to check the other LG 50PK550R Samsung 50C550
or LG50PJ650R models. There are many threads here in this forum on those TVs they shld help you decide.

yeah,i can extend my budget if that is worth spending on 42 v20 or lg50pj350.

considered v20 because it is full hd and using neopdp panel and other connectivity tools..

then came lg50pj350,got a quote of 55k with out much bargaining with gud emi options.thats why i included lg also.i can extend the budget till 60k max.

what is the best rate for pk 550 in bangalore??i think it is above my budget..

if these extra spend is not worth i will settle for x20.

advice...

lot of people have reported some issues on LG50PK550 and even in V20 Pana Better read those threads before you decide.

dijeesh,

Looks like you a have tough job selecting one. I would suggest you finalize the budget first. For a viewing distance of 8-10ft with DTH and DVD:

  • LG 42PJ560 - HD ready, for better sound
  • LG 50PJ560 - HD ready, for better sound and extra screen
  • LG 50PK550 - Full HD, great picture for the price - pasia vasool
  • Panasonic 42V20 - Full HD, for better picture and calibration features
  • Samsung 42C450 - HD ready (may want to check it out, SD pictures look really nice)
I would ignore the Panasonic X20, LG PJ350 and PJ650 since PJ560 offers best of other three in terms of picture quality, looks and sound. Unless you want to spend more for the 42V20.

So a toss between V20 and PJ560.

My thumbs up for LG 42/50PJ560 for the VFM, sound, extra 8" screen, airtel DTH and EMI options. If there is not much price difference between the 50" PJ560 and PK550 then the latter is great too.

Mind you LG:
1) does have minor image rentention but you can easily get rid of it using built-in ISM options.
2) has no advanced calibration options like V20
3) has reflection (not a worry as your room lights will be controlled)
4) cannot entirely match up to the picture quality of the V20

Remember bigger is not always better. In fact the further you sit for SD, the lesser noticeable picture problems.

Spend the money you save on an excellent upscaling DVD player. You can't improve SD DTH signals but DVD upscaling is totally in capability of the player.

Hope this helps and does not confuse you further. These are my suggestions; in the end, only trust your eyes and budget :) You may even settle for the X20 - it's your decision.

Hello,

I have a Panasonic A Series 42" Plasma (2010 model). Great quality and viewing angle. My Airtel DTH feeds near DVD quality video and looks great when watching from 4 feet distance. It is a HD TV (not full HD). For a 42" TV, HD or Full HD does not matter. If u intend to go for 50" or more and want to watch BluRay movies sitting just 2 feet from TV then go for Full HD.

If your viewing distance is average 6 feet away for 42" TV, then buying full HD is waste of money. Please note : HD telecast is either 720P or 1080i and not 1080P(full HD).

Infact while purchasing, my demo bluray clip gave good video quality for HD...full HD was very sharp and was not very satisfying.

But u cannot play movies in SD card and no USB in TV. Make sure u get a DVD/BluRay player which has USB support and HDMI out.

Under 29" CRT exchange i paid 44K.

hi,

I have not yet seen the 42/50 pj560.Want to see that before deciding.

i will be using my hometheater for audio.

is there any difference other than audio between pj350 and pj560??

if not i will settle for pj350(cost effective..)

thanks..

That's cool. Demo both and see what you like.

Had pulled these off lg.com/in. The only visible difference in PJ350 and PJ560 is the sound.

PJ350 Key Features
-------------------------------
Resolution (1024 x 768p)
USB 2.0 (1)
Infinite Surround System
Viewing Angle (178/178)
Brightness (1500 cd/m2)
600 Hz Sub Field Driving
Dynamic Mega Contrast Ratio (30,00,000:1)

PJ560 Key Features
-------------------------------
Resolution (1024 x 768p)
USB 2.0 (1)
Infinite Surround System Audio Output (Watts - THD 10%) 500W PMPO
Viewing Angle (178/178)
Brightness (1500 cd/m2)
600 Hz Sub Field Driving
Dynamic Mega Contrast Ratio (30,00,000:1)

PJ650 Key Features
-------------------------------
Resolution (1024 x 768p) - In detail section it is mentioned as 1365 x 768
USB 2.0 (1)
Infinite Surround System
Viewing Angle (178/178)
Brightness (1500 cd/m2)
600 Hz Sub Field Driving
XD Engine (Dual) - If not mistaken then all models (PJ, PK) have this. Ask salesman.
Dynamic Mega Contrast Ratio (30,00,000:1)
HDMI In - What does that mean? Others have no HDMI in?
Borderless Plasma - Yes, as long as the TV is switched off. Switch it on and surprise!

Only differnce is the SOUND.. no other difrnce as such..

Just check with the number of HDMI availble on 350 n 560, I think both have same number.

Consider samsung 42 inch series as well in this price bracket. The USB playback in samsung supports more formats such as mkv. I am having trouble playing just VOB files with LG 42PJ560R. They have black bars on the top as well as side. So basically I would say the USB video playback on LG is so-so. Even the support is saying its a limitation and cant do anything about it.

Now regretting if I should have gone for Samsung instead of LG.

hi dijeesh,
i am also in the same boat....

i am new to this forum and found this to be very informative.

After reading many reviews i have considering to go for 42 lg 350 or samsung 42c450 or panasonic 42 x 20.the best offer i got for lg is 38.5 k ,for samsung is 47k and for panasonic is 40K

i have a few queries.

1.is samsung 42c450 is better than lg and panasonic
2.samsung guys claimed the usb drive can play all movie files, including hd videos.whether lg can play this?
3.one dealer showed me panasonic v20 also.but they are quoting 62k
4.heard panasonic has black levels loosing after watching for 1000 hours, any idea?
5.panasonic is v20 is full hd and offering 3year warranty and has got usb drive(will this usb play hd videos,i am not sure)is 24k extra over lg worth??

i know there is lot of queries, but any of my friends are able to guide me ,thats why i am posting here, need your advice as i will be purchasing this week end.(dealers have some offers for independence day)

i will be using this tv to watch dish dth(60%) + movies(30%) + photos (10%)

Samsung C450 is the best among these and you should be able to get it for 45K if not less

Don't regret buying the LG 42PJ560. It's a very nice plasma. The USB feature should not be a deal breaker. The Samsung 42C450, well, it may be slightly better than the LG but I feel it's not worth the 9k extra in price. At around the same price, it may be great. Also, Samsung service is bad and there is even a separate thread on this here in this forum. See if you can get yourself a good HD media player like the WDTV and you would never bother with the TV's USB port.

There is a thread about LG's poor service as well. I dont such things should be the only decisive factors influencing anyone.

Totally Agree. I have products from almost all the top brands and would not call anyone's customer service 'good'.

Quoting from a movie "customer ke naam mein hi toh 'mar' likha hai.

Anyways the only real dealbreaker for a budget plasma is the best value for money.

PQ wise also i found the sammy model better than the LG & Panny models u have mentioned. But hey! you r not gonna use my eyes to watch.

Dijeesh.

Contrast should be low. Same with brightness. Use Cinema mode. Avoid logos and black bars.
Enjoy your purchase.
