Best 42" plasma at Rs 40,000....

DVI-HDMI converter works just fine.
By "older graphics cards", just how old do you mean? If you are referring to AGP platform cards then they may have a problem playing HD content. But most of today's PCI-e cards, even the cheap fan-less ones, will be able to play HD videos. However if you want to play the latest games, then you will have to get at least a mid-priced graphics card.

hi,my pc is really an old one.can't find out any dvi out.

There is a vga and one more out.I can't figure out what is this .

find the photo below (sorry, image is bad ,taken with my mobile).

Can i do anything on this. What is required to view HD videos with this set

up. like, what card to purchase and approx cost also.

Sorry i am really bad in this..

Looking forward to ur advice.. Thanks.

Hi, looks like your PC does not have a graphics card at all. What you have to do is find out if there is an AGP/PCI-e slot on the motherboard. Open the CPU case and try and locate a PCI-e/AGP slot on the motherboard. Both AGP and PCI-e slots are longer than regular PCI slots. If you are confused then let me know what processor your computer uses, and then I can probably tell you whether the slot is PCI-e or AGP. Be warned, some motherboards come without slots for graphics cards.... in which case you would need to upgrade i.e. buy a new motherboard and/or CPU.

i think my pc need a motherboard upgrade..

in this scenario ,, is media player a good option.

i have heard about Nationite,WD,Xtreamer,Play on HDetc..

what is the cost effective option?? my need is just to play hd files in my plasma.

what would be the cost for mother board upgrade vs Nationite ( i don't have an external HDD)

advice..

If ur motherboard have PCI-E slot, then a cheap graphics card will do the trick for playing HD videos.... if u can post a pic of ur motherboard, then can help u to decide....

graphics card with hdmi out??

what is the cost for a graphics card?

if my pc dont have a pci-e slot what would be the cost for an upgrade of motherboard??

thanks..

For a cheapest Graphics card with HDMI out, try NVIDIA 9500GT, which should cost around Rs.3500. If your motherboard doesn't have PCI-e slot, don't bother upgrading it. Go for any media player. I would recommend WD Media Player if you have budget constraints.

A dedicated media player would definitely be the best option, unless your PC has a PCIe slot which I doubt. Just open the cabinet, see the name of the motherboard and search on goole for specs.

The mother board is Intel D 845 epi/D 845 GVSR and has got 3 pci slots.didn't see any pci-e slot.

With this can i install a graphics card with hdmi out?

can you suggest the cheap and best graphics card.

Hi your motherboard appears to be a Socket 478 based motherboard. That is, it supports an older generation of Pentium processors with the pins on them. (eg: the Prescott processors which were notorious for their high operating temperatures). So I feel it is better to go in for a complete upgrade, because Socket 478 has long been phased out. Even if your processor can handle HD videos, it will be placed under a lot of load and hence will become very HOT and noisy.
My suggestions are to go in for WD media player as someone has already suggested, if your are only going to watch movies.
But if you are going to upgrade the computer anyway then you can go in for any Core2Duo processor coupled with an XFX board. The XFX board has an IGP solution and offers HDMI connectivity on the motherboard itself, so no need to go in for a separate graohics card. Couple this with 2GB of DDR2 RAM and you should be able to watch HD content on WinXP (don't know about Win7 though). Some people may suggest AMD based set-up but it is all up to you, i am only suggesting.... I am not a fanboy. The Intel vs. AMD debate is an ongoing one not likely to end in the near future.
The total cost of upgrade will be somewhere around 15k maybe less depending on the type of processor you choose. Make sure you buy a good PSU (at least 450W) as this will ensure longevity of the other components. DO NOT buy Frontech or Intex even if they claim to support 1000W!!!! Corsair or even CoolerMaster/Zebronics PSU is a safe bet.

Thanks alot.

As you suggested I think i should look at a dedicated media player

Again lot of options.Play on,WD,Nationite etc.

I would do a little more RnD before deciding the one which suits me.

Look forward to your suggestions on this.

I don't have an external HDD.

If take the cost needed for Media Player + HDD,would you suggest this set up or an upgrade in my PC.

Advice.

Media Player is good because it is convenient. Most good media players have the ability to play virtually any format. They are simpler to connect to any TV and they are quiet. But that is basically what they do - play movies and music if you are so inclined.
A PC is more versatile. You can even use it to play games. And the advantage is that you can always upgrade the hardware in future. Since you have a Socket 478 CPU, my suggestion is to go in for a PC upgrade. You are going to have to upgrade the PC sooner or later anyway. And if you use a motherboard like the XFX board with HDMI out then you can directly connect it to your HDTV without the need to invest in a separate graphics card.
Cost of Media player will be around 7000/- (WD TV or Asus O play or iOmega) HDD cost will vary depending on the storage capability.

It is not worth to upgrade your PC for playing media, especially if the PC is old and if you are considering upgrading the CPU. In addition, playing high definition media is not smooth on PC as CPU might be doing few other things at times. And it is not convenient for using PC, also consider booting time, shutting down etc.

Even in general, I think it is not worth upgrading an old PC. If at all you like "the upgrade", upgrade new PC with more RAM, better video card etc..

A media player is worth considering, if you go for Iomega, you get the player with HDD included may be at 10K with 1TB capacity.

OK I am going to assume you are on a budget. If you have an unlimited budget then the sky is the limit.
As far as upgrading your PC is concerned, you have to understand that you will have to go in for a completely new set-up. Your motherboard and processor are Socket 478 based and hence are outdated. Your RAM is probably DDR1 so that will also have to be replaced. The only thing that you can retain from your original set-up would be the keyboard/mouse and speakers. For other components like PSU (power supply) I recommend you to go in for a new one, unless your existing one is really good.

The prices I have listed are as per techshop.in. They are a fairly good indicator of prices though you may be able to get the same thing for slightly lesser if you buy locally. So here goes:

Motherboard XFX 630i 7100 (or 7150) approx. 3200/- (recommended because it has a good onboard IGP, as well as having an HDMI port on the motherboard. So no need to go in for a separate graphics card as you can connect directly to your HDTV)

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 Processor approx. Rs 5654/-

RAM: Corsair XMS2 1GB DDR2 800MHz CM2X1024-6400 approx. Rs. 1802/- (sadly the cost of DDR2 RAM seems to have gone up in recent times) get 2 sticks!!!

PSU: FSP SAGA II 500 500W Power Supply approx. Rs. 2253/-

Case: Cooler Master Elite RC 310 RC-310-RKN1-GP approx. Rs. 1766/-

And I recommend getting a wireless USB mouse/keyboard combo from Logitech. approx. Rs. 1500/- (there are some iBall wireless combos which sell for even less)

This is a rough estimate of what an upgrade will cost you. Do note that this is an Intel based set-up. If you choose to go the AMD way things might work out even cheaper. In the latter case you might go for

Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 250 Processor (3.0 Ghz) approx. Rs. 3483/-

Motherboard: Biostar TA690G AM2 Motherboard approx. Rs. 3210/- (this board might actually be a real great deal. It has 4 RAM slots and appears to have an HDMI port on the motherboard with an Onboard Video Chipset ATI Radeon Xpress 1250.
The RAM and other items can work on both platforms so remain the same.
