Best DVD player iwth USB

The prob is 388 is USb1.1 so not sure,pio/oppo comes with 2.0 so they support it.(portable laptop HDD)
Power of 1.1 is not enough & in Laptop needs another cable attached to diff USB.

Ok here was the test :-

Took my cousins latest seagate 500 gb freeagent pro and attached it to my LG. No Luck  .

Then I realized that the FS was NTFS . So I opened up Acronis Disk Director and created a Logical 20gb Fat 32 partition after the NTFS partition.. Still no luck .

But then i got a brainwave . I deleted the old partition and instead created another fat 32 partition before the original NTFS partiton but this time set it as primary . Dumped my files and BINGO !!! movies started playing off the portable HDD !!! :clapping: :yahoo: :ohyeah:

But then i wanted to go for the ultimate test . ( I know I am ziddi) . Convinced my cousin that converting to Fat 32 was a good idea ( Poor guy he does not know anything about FileSystems and HDD's, he just buys whatever I tell him :D) , took a backup of all the data and formatted the entire drive into Fat32. Copied 70 gb of movies and tadaaaaaaa I could play all 70gb of movies without a hitch !!! :ohyeah:

@ Dushie - this is for you :p ( Since your maxtor did not work)

@spirovious - I just proved your theory wrong, sooo you deserve a double :p :p

Tonight a 250 Gb WD passport will be under the Scanner !! Go LG Go !!

Disclaimer - I am just jumping with joy here so guys please bear with me !

which player supports lossless formats like flac, apple lossless, wma lossless etc? Either format should be fine.
You want DVD playr or Media player?
610 NOT supporting FLAC n Apple Lossless when I checked
WDTV supports flac

I want both in the same package. there isn't much of a difference when a dvdp can play media off an hdd. Only more formats.

It depends upon what your needs are ANM . If you go for a media player such as WD TV then you wont get DVD support. You may need to mod your firmware and attach an external dvd rom for the same. However you egt to play all formats including mkv hd as well as flac.

DvDP with USB are more like a scaled down media player .

If I were you I would go for a media player like WD TV, mod it and attach an external DVD Rom or buy Popcorn Hour ! Media Players are the future and with time they are only going to get cheaper :) !

ok , but still I proved you wrong , He He ! :clapping:

Anyways this is another thumbs up for this DVD Player !

I got wrong as you misguided. As you said ,you was unable to connect USB HDD,I gave you another option.I thought you are clever to format HDD into fat32.

Anyway you cld atleast manage.I m HAPPY:clapping::clapping::clapping:

Oyee when did I misguide you bhai......Wah , yeh bhi mere par ! Sahiii...

Anwyays lets c , I will play around with WD passport and let you guys know.

Actually to give you credit, you may not be totally wrong . This is because I did some research before taking this step. If you go and compare the specs of an Internal WD vis a vis the Internal Seagate 2.5" HDD, the power consumption of the Seagate is approx 300mA as compared to 500mA of WD . So I am not sure whether WD will work , but again lets c.

Hi

My PIONEER DV610 is unable to play movies of resolution 1280 x 544:sad:. Getting error "The video resolution of this file is not supported". These files are basically BR Rips (Xvid, AVI) downloaded from internet. can anyone help on how to play these files or what is the max resolution supported by this player?
I am using SAMSUNG 5 Series Television.

Max resolution supported is 720 x 480/ 576 NTSC/PAL respectively.

You could convert these rips to DVD format using ConvertXtoDVD and keep the high PQ in DVD video format.

Thanks for the quick reply..is there any other player available in the market that can play the movies of high resolution? if so how much bucks i have to shed?

Since i am enjoying 2MBS broadband speed downloaded lot of these movies and looking forward to watch them...

No DVD players will support this. The new Blu-ray Player Oppo BDP-83 should be able to support this. But it costs USD 500.00.

Best is to go for media players like WDTV (there's lot of discussion about it on this forum) approx Rs. 6.5K or Pop Corn Hour approx Rs. 15K which will play directly from your HDD.

The WD PAssport 250 GB is confirmed to be working with LG DV 388!!!! :clapping: :ohyeah:

It seems the Maxtor HDD must be either NTFS formatted or it must be requiring an extra usb power as many portable HDD's do !

I have decides I will go for a 320 gb WD Passport instead of a 16 gb flashdrive . Available for approx Rs 3300/- and 3 years warranty !

Hmmm now the question.

Seagate FreeAgent GO 320 gb has better read write speeds and is available for Rs 3700 /- vis a vis the WD 320Gb Passport which is available for RS 3300 . The seagate has 5 years warranty which the dealer itself said to be farce and said to assume a 3 year warranty for both . WD is more popular as compared to Seagate but the Seagate specs speak for itself. So which to go for ? Mind says seagate even though it is more expensive .

God I started with Rs 1400 budget and now I have extended it to nearly RS 3700/- !! With falling prices does it make sense to go for 320 gb now or wait for the prices to go down a bit more ? I am in no real hurry as such per se !

WD offers on-site warranty. I don't think you will actually really feel the read/ write speeds to be any faster or benefit from it in the long run. You may copy one 1 or 2 movies at a time. And 1 or 2 minutes faster is not going much difference.

I would say save your Rs. 400. Or rather get a 500GB WD @ 5K.;)

Well thats true that WD offers onsite warranty but again takes nearly a month to replace the HDD. The Seagate service centre is hardly 15 mins from my Home and given the fact that they replaced my Maxtor 1 TB with an upgraded model in a week tops, it talks a lot about their service quality.

@reju Bhai I will go and get another 1 TB for Rs5200 rather than get a 500gb portable ! The diff in prices is phenomenal between a 320 gb and 500gb.

Still thx for your suggestion.

Re: Best DVD/Blu-Ray player with USB

A very good alternative to OPPO-BDP83 will be JVC XV-BP1 which is available in NA with Region A locked, but can be unlocked with a bit of modifications. It plays most of the formats supported by OPPO including 1080p MKV files and can be bought for $300 less than OPPO.

Blu-ray Disc Player - XV-BP1

Below is the link for its manual.

My choice after OPPO would be this ^ model! For what you pay, highly worth every single penny. But unlike LG models, this doesn't support NTFS external HDD yet, so only FAT32. Quality wise way beyond the reach of LG! ;)

Cheers!
