Best DVD player iwth USB

Thanks for this info: so as per your valuable suggestion I am going to buy LG 388/WDTV.
Not can you please tell me what are the cables are required for this connection to get the best of it so that i will try to bring from USA or UK

USA is a better place to buy cables.

A friend and forum member has suggested me HDMI Cable, Home Theater Accessories, HDMI Products, Cables, Adapters, Video/Audio Switch, Networking, USB, Firewire, Printer Toner, and more! for cheap and durable cables . I have ordered from there but cant really confirm before I actually recieve it.

Till date I have used HDMI cables that come along with dvd player . Currently using Sony HDMI Cable . Have LG and a local HDMI cable in stock. Will route everything through avr as soon as I receive my monoprice hdmi cable as my LCD has only one HDMI port.

Audio Cables :

Coaxial Cable supplied when I got the AVR , the same is still working.
Optical Cable : Bought an el cheapo optical cable of a brand called 'valueline' for Rs300 around a week back . Decent product for the price. Intend to replace it as soon as I receive my monoprice cables.

Re: mp4 files on 5996

Folks - can I use my 5996 to play mp4 files? These files can be played using Quicktime on my laptop. Is there a firmware upgrade for 5996 that plays these .mp4 files?

I am using philips 59xx series for the last 2 years. The latest i am using 5992 model. It is cheap and the best. Mainly, it plays well high bitrate videos from USB drive. Plays most DVDs.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. I have been using 5966 for a few months now and everything works fine, except for .mp4 files. It says 'codec not supported'. I am asking if there is a firmware upgrade for that?

Hi I really don't think 5996 will have a mp4 playback capability even after a firmware update . You need to go for either a gaming console like ps3 or NMT such as popcorn hour, wd tv etc !

mp4 files is like the quicktime compatible stuff. doesnt play on any known dvd player. lets wait nd see if divx 7 comes up with that sort of a compatibility feature.

Wdtv :-

Digital Optical out from WDTV to Digital Optical in of AVR for audio
Composite/HDMI to CRT/LCD for Video

so it is like :-

WDTV>>>>AVR<<<<<<DVDP - Audio
WDTV>>>>TV<<<<<<<DVDP - Video

Hello illusion
I got HDTV and DVD player. Now again I am confused. Mostly I am use to play movies from disk, not from USB or any other storage media then how HDTV will help me out. I also have Setup box provided by cable guy (Cisco) and I wanted every thing would go through AVR even DVD player also. so I would like to know that if AVR will manage quality of sound and Picture which are coming from setup box.

HDTV is mainly known for it clarity but fall short on account of audio quality. Since you have an AVR through which you will be routing all your audio , it makes sense to upgrade to HDTV to enjoy Upscaled/Full HD content . But again the choice is yours . It is a matter of personal taste. HDTV is again widescreen and with more and more movies being released in 16:9 , HDTV should ideally be the next upgrade option.

You can very well route all your audio and video though your avr . I use my AVR purely for audio but it should not make any diff to the video clarity also.

thanks illusion. I would like to understand that how come it will help me out if i play disk from my DVD player as this routing through AVR like DVDp>>>>AVR>>>Plasma. basically i would like to know that how HDTV works . is there any DVD slot in in or how it works.

Sirji you have got it all wrong. HDTV will not help you in playing movies from disk. It is just an upgrade from CRT TV to LCD TV . In this process you gain the benefits of LCD TV and HDMI technology which results in improved clarity. CRT do not support HDMI connectivity .

So it is not useful if i play movies directly from disk. am I right? so what best I can do to get good reception from my plasma and AVR. I thought if i get WDTV it may increase reception. So if I am not wrong only one option is to use some good cables (HDMI/ component/optical)Right? to get better output from setup box and DVDp.in this scenario i require some HDMi cable and component or optical (which once is good) cables right? sorry to troubling you again.

mp

connect as per the first msg on this page you've quoted illusion's reply. To get the best possible video use an HDMi and for audio use optical.

You are right. If you need a player that plays most of the audio and videos formats, then something like POPCORN HOUR is the best option. i have Popcorn Hour A-110 and absolutely love that. i never faced the format issue for the last 1 year. You don't need a DVD player itself. You rip all your DVD and load them in Popcorn. thats it.

Asus has launched MP which can play almost all formats(real media too)
around 8k.

Know your looking at Samsung , LG etc models.

You could also consider Pioneer DVD players.

Pioneer DVD player models DV310 and DV410 available for 3200/- and 4500/- approx. Grey Market.

DV310 does not have HDMI and upscaling features like DV410.

Playing movies, music via USB is available in both models.

For more info on either models you could look at Pioneer Singapore .

Can you pls provide me with any contact in Bangalore for the Pioneer DV420?
