Raj,
Check whether the usb is FAT formatted.It accepts only FAT formatted usbs & HDDs.

usb playability & support on the v20d is basic....it doesn't support ntfs...format it to FAT & get the usb video playback of limited formats!

nctions using direct ethernet connection.

test is successful but it shows connection to server failed (error 006). do not know i have 2 mbps connection.

panasonic chaps came thrice, shown me their dongle and it worked fine with wifi. but i wanted to know why ethernet is not working. they had no answer to that.

does any one know where the problem lies? i have reliance broadband connection

reliance broadband can have some issues with the log in. i remember i had to log off from my desktop in case i want to use the ethernet cable in my laptop. its been a while, as i am using wifi for some time now, but still this could be the reason.
