Brought my 51E550 home yesterday

50UT50 one of the best !!!! :lol::lol::lol:

Hmm? Whats there to laugh hysterically?

both are equally good in 2D. sammy better overall due to better 3D:indifferent14:

Not surprised by his comment/sarcasm since he owns a PS51D550 (2011 model) so biased opinion is expected, has been preaching Samsung Plasmas since last year and even putting them against best in class Panny models like ST50 as well ...

Would be curious to know the same... and hopefully substantiated with facts :)

well i was curious to know how UT50 better but ofcourse with proper backing of facts. :)

These are the top 10 plasma they have reviewed according to a site but i don't see UT50 there but i see E550.

TelevisionInfo.com

The E550 tested with a total viewing angle of 155, or 78 from center in either direction. This is a really good result. Compared to the E530 series, its slightly wider, though neither mid-range plasma could hold a candela to the huge viewing angle we tested on the E8000, Samsungs flagship plasma. The P50U50, a budget TV from Panasonic, was left in the dust.

LOL. I never put E550 ahead of ST50. For the price E550 is very good with lots of features but for people having more cash even i say get the ST50 or GT50... BUT UT50 is not the same as these two.

I have personally seen UT50 and i don't believe its better than E550...

CNET review says that in perfect darkness, the black levels of UT50 equals ST50 but that DOES NOT IMPLY that the contrast, saturation, color accuracy and other factors equal that of ST50. There is a lot to a television PQ than just black levels.

Also UT50 can only give out 53.88 cd/m2 or light output whereas E550 can give out 140.8cd/m2, this makes night and day difference especially while watching 3D . Also color accuracy of E550 and its motion performance is far superior than UT50 that even samsung's harshest critics agree. In terms of 3D the E550 has near reference level performance.

I maybe a bit biased towards samsung as i own a samsung TV but i do know my stuff and really E550 is anyday better than UT50 in a lot of ways and also less expensive. I know contacts through which now we are getting E550 as cheap as 66-67k with the Bluray player and the 2 3D glasses.

Samsung Smart TV , built-in wifi, DLNA support for even most ridiculous formats exist in samsung, skype camera option and the Real Black filter found on last years D8000 model is there on this years E550.

Black levels recorded of UT50 is 0.01cd/m2 in near darkness and that of E550 is 0.04cd/m2 and that makes absolutely no difference in real world performance but the 140+ light output makes a huge difference.

avsforum talks about buzzing sound from this tv ?. Did you notice anything like that ?.

Also, is this a real 1080p panel. I remember reading a thread on cnet, which questions this. I am not able to locate that discussion now.

I have see both UT50 and E550. I found E550 more vibrant than UT50... purely from laymen perspective.

Now with UT50 and ST50 not available in stores, I have also started looking at E550

lol :) of course it is a full HD panel with no single doubt, i think you are talking about motion resolution, in that case most mid range plasma's do 900 lines while top end models do full 1080 lines and all this is achieved through processing and does not make any difference in real world viewing conditions. :)

Surely agree with you here...

Here is what cnet review quotes as the bottomline, and it just doesnt say blacks:

The Panasonic TC-P50UT50 plasma TV nearly matches the world-beating picture quality of the ST50 series, at an even lower price.

Well everyone knows the price of both is similar (most of people have been quoted 75K approx for both UT50 & E550) - lets leave out the contacts part because that is subjective. BTW Panasonic Plasmas come with 3 yrs ext warranty so thats an add-on as well.

Anyways lets not get into fist fight because we all have choices before we buy them, someone that suits one may not suit other... hopefully we can point out the right features, pros/cons and share our learnings with others and vice versa... :)

Thanks everyone and apologies for a late reply.

To break it away from the numbers, all I would say is I have never seen a more seamless performance from a flat planel TV till now. Whether it is the tickers on business channels or a grand prix, from tennis to cricket and basketball, and from high-pan movies to light-governed ones (The Godfather).

And all this on an SD box from Hathway. Who's to say what experience an HD box (on it's way) will bring.

I also believe that I won't let a snob have my hard earned money. Someone might build a better plasma but unless it is eons ahead in performance and a notch ahead in what it costs, I won't buy indifference for the money. So, adios Panasonic, you're not missed. Not one bit.

:clapping: wonderful! great rankings backed up by wonderful measurements,oh may be invisible measurements. :)

Awesome, so now curse the ranking methodology because the model being preached by one doesn't appear.. sour grapes anyone :ohyeah:

Deviating from from your own request does not help :)

we need numbers and measurements to back up claims that UT50 is better.I posted numbers and measurements and in reply you posted a list of TV from a site which gives no in depth detail of anything.

For the record i have 1 x 50" V20 and 3 x 50" c6500 plasma which i bought in 2010, i really hope you don't own either a E550 or the UT50 so i call stop calling the sour grapes on you.

UT is one of the bottom end Panasonic plasma, it has better blacks than Samsung plasma because that is the trend Panasonic follows this year by lowering the panel brightness and boosting blacks, this results in poor viewing angle and really bad 3D performance and average to bad performance while viewing in normal home lighting conditions.

UT50 is more reflective than E550 and the picture and motion processing is no were close to that of the E550.

Having said all this i think ST50 is a nice plasma and so is E6500 because both offer great performance for the money but still E6500 has better anti reflective filter than ST50 and better black tone without being greenish like Panasonic.

3d is still half baked.. so going to a model just because of 3d makes little sense.

Also, "black" seems to be a big +ve on plasma compared to LED. So if ut50 black is superior to e550, isn't that a reason to call ut50 better than e550 ?

Quick Question

I have the 51D550 that i can pop off to a friend for around 55k .. Does it make sense to pick up the 51E550 and pay the difference.

Nope it does not make any sense, D550 is as good as the E550.On the other hand if if upgrade to the E6500 or E7000 or a bigger 64 inch E550 then it makes sense. :)

Better blacks are always nice but not by sacrificing panel brightness. :)
