Brought my 51E550 home yesterday

Ok am I the only one who feels it is odd that the ST50 is a better TV than the VT50 according to these ranking links u have provided... Hell in one link even the UT50 is ranked over the VT50 ... Now I have to ask is the VT50 so bad that it rates worse than a ST50 or even a UT50??? If this is what u are saying then man did panny get their Flagship model all wrong...

Anyway as the debate as to which is better E550 or the UT50 I have to go with the E550... I no purist love to kiss the ground that Panasonic walks on but for me a TV should be a all round performer... I watched these 2 sets side by side & the E550 just seemed very vibrant to me & almost as bright as a LED...HD PQ wise both were about equal if u discard the extra brightness of the E550... Its when I switched to the SD channels is when the gloves really came off... The E550 started kicking the UT50's ass left right & center... I would dare anyone to prove to me that Panasonic's SD PQ is even remotely decent when compared to the Samsungs... In my house my mom most of the time watches cookery shows & news channels all of which are in SD not HD... So I would prefer the E550 anyday... To each their own I guess...

... I know contacts through which now we are getting E550 as cheap as 66-67k with the Bluray player and the 2 3D glasses. ...
I agree, E550 is a great TV for the price. I'm planning to buy this TV. However, none of the dealers, I enquired, had this TV in stock. One dealer quoted 78K which I think, can be negotiated to may be 73-74K.

66-67K is very good price. Can your contacts help me in getting this TV in Pune for 69-70K (considering octroi in Pune)?

You will be surprised at the SD capabilities of the D/E450 plasmas. They are 720p and they even beat the 550 in SD. And you can take home a 50 incher with 3D and glasses for 50k!!

Quick Question

I have the 51D550 that i can pop off to a friend for around 55k .. Does it make sense to pick up the 51E550 and pay the difference.

Nope. Will be foolishness.

There is (was) a great humourist in Marathi literature, P L Deshpande, more fondly known as PuLa. He once wrote in his story,

(Father to son) A job is like a neighbour's wife. Just because she appeals more, there is no point in abandoning your own.

3d is still half baked.. so going to a model just because of 3d makes little sense.

Also, "black" seems to be a big +ve on plasma compared to LED. So if ut50 black is superior to e550, isn't that a reason to call ut50 better than e550 ?

Were you able to demo both and decide? In any case, do go for extended warranty/insurance etc through finance or whatever if you decide for samsung, Panny will anyways give you 3 years.
