Building my first HTPC

Congratulations on your new HTPC. :clapping:

I'm quite curious to know what you did with the graphics card, did you exchange it or you exchanged the case?

I am also planning to build a HTPC with XBMC. There are motherboards coming with the processor. Will they be good to use them with a graphics card. For example Gigabyte E350n Any thoughts on them.

If you have any audio sync problem, U have to use 'ReClock' (Open source app.) from Videohelp or 'VideoClock' (Excl. comes with JRiver Media Center).
I am using it and it gives me a good result.

Can you please share your settings for ReClock for playing 3D BD iso?

Looks like a good option. Mine I now feel is an overkill for the requirements. Yes, it can scale up for 3d, but the CPU and memory usage is so low that I could have built a cheaper htpc.

I use the e350 for audio. If you decide to get one with integrated cpu also go for onboard wifi. These mobos have just one slot either pci or pcie.

G0bble.

Team,

How much does it usually cost to make a decent HTPC?
I'm confused on going for NAS or HTPC.

Depends on the components you use. In my opinion, no need to go for high spec configuration for HTPC. You can assemble one in 15K.

adding to what baijuxavior said, HTPC and NAS are two different things, so there should not be any confusion. Technically you can do a DIY NAS and use it as an HTPC but that would probably not even be called as a NAS,

15k as suggested by baijuxavior is a good benchmark. But that will be without storage (I used external hdd), keyboard or mice. Also, its assumed you will go for a free OS like openelec. If you buy a smaller case then the costs are higher.

Mine came to the following
Buy Online COOLER MASTER Mini 210 Slim microATX MIN-210-KKR300 Cabinet in India
Rs. 5650
Intel 2.9 GHz LGA 1155 G2020 Processor - Intel: Flipkart.com
Rs. 3550
ASUS P8H61-M LX Motherboard - ASUS: Flipkart.com
Rs. 3880
4 GB RAM - Rs. 3050
Asus Nvidia gt630 - 4500

So, a total of 21k.

The 4 GB RAM can be replaced by even a 2 GB RAM, so would saved some money.
Also, using the AMD APU would have avoided the Graphics card and saved another 4-5k as the CPU I chose didnt have HDMI support which I missed.
