Building my Home Theatre Room - Please guide me

Hi Santhosh,

Thanks for your reply.

Regarding intial setting , tweaking and testing of projector it is better to follow the AV forum official thread of your HD20 projector. I am not kinda expert.. However i believe the setting out of the box itself will blow. Once your projector crossed some 25 hrs or so, u can start tweaking the projector.

Best way to test the projector as all know is Avia and DVE pro / Some members in this forum,, should have that... / somehwhere in the forum i read there are some freely downloadble calibration discs are there and links were given,,, But i never used it, since my projector is out of the box is good with minor change done with help of AVforum members.

Some Links just i browsed to read the contents about calibration.. May be useful to you... But i dont think you will have time to read this for sometiem now,,,,, since you are already popping up your toy.. Enjoy...

Kindly PM your address to me...with contact no..

Made some progress today and also one major stuff up with the HT.

Good News first...
1) Got up at 5 and cleaned HT Room as carpet would be installed this morning starting 6AM. The install was completed at 7:30AM. I thought everything worked as per plan and I can go to office. But, little did I know that I would get a severe headache as I was intoxicated by the SR Adhesive that this used to stick the carpet:D. I decided to take half a day off. Instead of recovering from the intoxication, I rushed to landmark to buy a Blu-Ray to play on my newly purchased PS3 Slim. After lot of confusion(caused by regions not being marked on most BDs), I picked up Spiderman 3, but did not notice that the audio format was PCM 5.1. I intend to return it to get something that is Dolby Tru HD or DTS-HD.

2) Tata-Sky Plus with DVR installed. Paid Rs.6260 (Equipment 5k, Installation 1k and one month subscription of South Starter plus). Did not get to play around too much, but initial impressions are good. Had lots of work in the HT, so started recording one of my favourie movies "TROY" to watch later.

3) Started putting all the equipment into place for the first time. I was waiting for room to be clean and no more drilling etc work left. Only the stereo setup has been wired so far. Here are some pics:

It was wires, tools and equipment everywhere. If you are wondering why the AVR is opened up, that is the bad news I mentioned earlier (more on that later)

All equipment in place just the way I wanted. On the left is the movie setup. On the right is the stereo setup. Need a usb-dac for the laptop to complete the RHS. Everything is in place except Tata-sky STB. This will be placed just above the Pioneer DVD player after I get the 10 meter long component cable.

So many remotes. I am glad I got the Logitech Harmony 525. It is presently with my friend for trouble-shooting as I am having trouble updating it connected to my PC. The 525 is expected to control eveything except the PS3.

It's coming up nice Santosh, Hope to get some first hand experience soon.

If you want thing to watch on Blu ray - I would recommend Transformers (The one with Megan Fox :D). It has got stunning picture quality and good audio as well. That was the first movie I watched and was well impressed. Although the movie by itself isn't great except Megan.

The bad news is that I connected my AVR to a 220V socket thinking the plug was of the ADCOM power amp. I heard a pop sound from the AVR, I knew I had stuffed up:o. I called Opert immediately and we both agreed that there has to be a fuse to avoid mishaps like this. I opened up the AVR for the first time, found the blown fuse and replaced it with a lesser capacity fuse at low volume. Did not work. I then tried a strand of wire, then two of them, did not work. I then replaced it with a higher rated fuse as I was getting realy tense. Much to my relief, it powered on...Yay!! Called Opert, he was relieved too. Got back to setting up the rest of the equipment. Will hunt for the fuse tomorrow in S.P Road and get my AVR back in action.

After setting up everything, I started listening to stereo for the first time in this room. Listened to Barry White initially, Whitney Houston and now Kenny G. There is a marked difference when I compare to my listening before this room was built. This Home Theater build has been such a rewarding experience. Am loving it:clapping:

I turned on the ambient lighting to set the right mood for listening, have a look...

Looks awesome, You only now need a good camera :p

Thanks Teky, I am sure you will recommend Sony. Actually this is a Sony DSC-W1 that I am using, it can't do dark images too well. Atleast not in my hands..lol

Something I want to share about Photography in my life: When I bought this camera in 2004, I had gotten really interested in Photography. I even bought some books on Photography. Then I knew if this kept going, I would end up with an SLR and all the accessories which were more expensive than the SLR itself. So, I made a conscious decision not to pursue my interest in Photography. The "Camervision.in" Ad is staring at me as I type this:D. I'll still say it "I sacrificed photography to be able to pursue my interest in automobile and audio". Hence the shutterbug god's curse on me "Thou shall never take good photographs"

Santhosh,

Yes, these point & shoot one's don't fair well in Low light conditions.

I've got interest in photography as well, Well it seems we've got too much of hobby to pursue, but not the money and time.

Agree Transformers-1 is among the best,,, you will love it.. Do not buy :D

Was the PM having a MF picture then
No teky, not pics of MF, the whole video:lol:. Actually Sundar and I were having offline discussion(s) about testing my PS3 for Blu-ray playback. During one of these discussions, he had told me to expect a surprise gift from him. After seeing your recommendation, he was afraid I would go ahead and buy "Transformers" after seeing your recommendation. Because, the surpise gift was a Blu-ray Disc of Transformers. I received and played it yesterday.

Thanks again Sundar for my first ever BD. I am deeply overwhelmed by your gesture. The parcel also had a note appreciating the effort that I had put into my Home Theater build and that it was time to enjoy the rewards. He also added that this build would be an inspiration for many others.

Also, I should mentioning that Teky has been instrumental in my buying a PS3. He was patiently answering all my queries about differences between the PS3-Slim and the Phat PS3. Thanks for this Teky.

I setup the Blu Ray player last night and was able to watch about an hour of Transformers. Like Teky and Sundar had mentioned, this movie is fantastic for sound effects especially LFE. Initially I had a problem with sound not playing as my AVR. I had contacted Venkat Sir for some clarification on AVRs and also asked him about this "sound not playing" problem. He suggested that I change the setting in my PS3 to downplay to DD5.1 or DTS5.1 . This is because my AVR is not HDMI capable. Thanks Venkat Sir for this and all your advice in the past.

That's a great gesture by Sundar :clapping: . This forum has got some great and humble minds.

Santosh - Glad that you are enjoying your purchase and set-up. Do post screenshots of the movie running.

Also what Games did you get with your Slim, Have you ever slipped them inside?

It is an appreciation gift on behalf of all HIFI members for Santhosh ,, particulary for his DIY effort.. He has used and utilized the knowledge of the members and their experience and completed his first ever HT. :clapping:
I could not do that and envy on him... May be next year end when my flat is ready at OMR i am planning to do dedicated HT. Till that I will change my present living room to live conditions and wait and watch U guys r doing ...

My first copy of my transformer got scratched by my daughter(4 years) to an extent which i dont want to see the face of the disc and thrown the disc.... Hence i ordered another one last month and it reached 2 weeks back... I thought of sending spidey-3 for santhosh and at last moment i came to know he has purchased it changed the disc... EDIT ::: I ordered another one today along with TF-2 and it will reach me next month..

Congratulation Santhosh, and i hope you will upgrade your system one by one soon..:clapping:
