Folks,

Am looking at buying a new TV for home. Screensize 55 and above. Budget of around 2L. I was initially eyeing Panasonic's ST series but given that plasma has been faced out, am starting my research all over again. Are curved TVs just gimmick? Please help with your suggestions.

Thanks.

you will get loads of names...........LED, 4k, etc............but there is ONLY one tv that stands out and has beaten them all in the latest 2014 HDTV shoot out. The winner is :

Samsung 64F8500 - will cost anywhere from 1.7L to 1.9L subject to availability of stocks. Get your hands on it before they are all gone and then like it or not you are going to be forced to buy LED.

To your query in the other thread, I would have bought 8500 Samsung plasma had it come in small size around 46-50 inches max. ST were not the top end plasma from Panny. The Samsung plasma was very near to the Panny top end plasma and one more thing to add is, it is very very bright for a plasma. So over all that it is highly advised. It can go very bright and also deep blacks.

Currently hands down no other TV can come close to this. Curved TVs are not actually a gimmick, its will indeed give be better and immersive experience for a single person, but you need to sit very straight.

Off axis, then the screen near to you will be more washed out than the screen farther to you. In addition to this, in some reviews I have read that there are backlighting issue and screen is not uniformly lit.

Please do audition the TVs before you buy.( Preferably in friends house and not in showroom)

If you do not want plasma, then you need to share what is it you want in the TV and the forum member can guide you.

I have narrowed down to the following searches - 55 inches - LG EA9800 / LG EA9700 and Samsung UH 9000. Samsung UH is 4K and LG EA9800 is OLED. Why should i choose one over the other? LG EA9800 does not support 4K - is that a concern for a 55 incher?

Thanks Oracle1974 for your suggestion. I might be doing a lot of game watching in this. I prefer a television for frequent cable view !
