hello All,

my name is Rajeev and am from Bangalore.. this is my first post. Am planning to buy Plasma TV. -LED too expensive- my preference is plasma because of color depth and good size: price ratio. i would really appreciate if you can help me to buy a good plasma Television. my requirements are as follows

-> prefer a 50 inch screen.
--> Brand...is Samsung a good buy against Panasonic...as Panasonic is knows as "king of plasma"
--> budget of 70 k ( max)
--> Recommended dealer in Bangalore? i stay in c.v.raman nagar

Lastly even though i prefer plasma is that a good option ? please let me know your expertise view.

thanks in advance.

if one of your primary purpose is not as a computer monitor and if you dont play lot of games, then dont hear anyone discouraging you from plasma !
Many people of this forum have bought panasonic plasma from Devi International in Bangalore.

I too am looking out on the same lines as what Jeev12 mentioned. My only worry is on the power consumption part and burn out of screen. Otherwise size and budget wise plasma look very tempting. I was planning to buy a 40-42'' as I have hall cum dinning of 20x11...

You can also have a look at Reliance Digital besides Devi International for getting a good deal. Both are well known for giving competitive rates

Even I am planning to upgrade our TV next month...Confused on the plasma/LED part.. Content viewed would be 70% cable using Set top box, 30% movies through either BDs or DVDs and USBs.. Already own a Sony BDP.. So any suggestions on it?? Screen size would be 40 or 42 inches.

I would suggest Samsung 51D 550 ( I own this model) plasma,and as a group buy ( through Prankey ) is definitely the first choice both in PQ and price value.cheers guy as first ball of second test on Star Cricket HD is all set

Stay away from LG plasmas...image retention and line bleeding has been plaguing my PK550. The non fullHD models are better

Power consumption for plasma is somewhat higher than LCD/LED, that's just a fact of this technology.

Plasma > LCD:
1. Plasma has deeper blacks.
2. More soothing and real-looking colors, while LCD is overly bright, artifically sharpened and unnatural looking (IMO....YMMV).
3. SD looks far better on plasma (fairly close to good old CRT, but still not as good). Given that pretty much all of Indian programming is still HD, this is a big advantage for plasma.
4. Viewing angles are much much better in plasma.
5. Motion artifacts are fairly visible in LCD depending on how critically you view.

LCD > Plasma:
1. TV is lighter and sleeker.
2. Uses less power.
3. Screen is not as reflective as plasma. If you have windows / doors facing the tv you have to consider that.
4. Claims of burn-in problems of plasma. I have not experienced this at all from last 4 years of ownership though.
5. Better suited if also going to use as computer monitor.

For best picture quality, plasma is hard to beat. I am also partial to Panasonic.

Many thanks

one more question please, i have 1000va APC invertor at home. will it take 50 inch plasma screen load at the time of switch over?

thanks in advance.

Yes it can,provided you turnoff the remaining electricals. :) 1000VA can give output around 600 change , so you should be fine. How ever it is not recommended to use electronics on inverters and UPS for long hours.

team, what about power consumption and burn out of screen? Comments please.

it is not at all a problem with new plasma models. recently my wife forgot to switch off my 2 yr old PQ70 around 4 hours with a static screen. it showed serious image retention, and with a 15 min whitewash everything disappeared and the TV is back to normal. Unless you do any serious stupid mistake it wont give any trouble.

Which brand the TV was?

my friend...u just need to look into newer models like Samsung 51 D550 plasma to feel how much sleeker & lighter plasma tv has become...though mayb bit more weighter than equal dimension led, but they are right at the top along with led tv for the amount of sleekness they have attained....they carry a lot of oomph factor,more than most current lcd & also a lot of these so called led tv's!

1 thing is very true, other than a bit higher power consumption of the plasma tv(which is again variable,unlike lcd/led tvs) & some screen reflection (which can be adjusted), there is nothing that can truly beat a plasma tv in the Quality of the picture it generates,which i think is the sole decider for most of the ppl buying a New HDTV today!

thank you all....i received few receommnedations for buying, anyone would like to add?

-->Samsung 51D 550
--> panasonic 42ST30

As mentioend earlier, Budget under 70k, 42 or 50 inch, 1080p, good sound output.
