Confused between LG 42LA 6910 & Sony 42W 800

@kreativegeek

ur right :) SONY T.V UI is the most outdated compared to other T.V's in the market. Samsung, LG, Panasonic and other brands have very intuitive UI which gives us NEXT GEN experience.

This T.V amazes me every single day.. I rarely watch in vivid mode, always use standard mode to watch movies.

Recently watched OZ in Star Movies HD i was totally blown away.

Very sad that you got a broken screen and the worst part is that you need to wait for another 2 days...... huh that's quite long buddy.

2 DAYS FOR REPLACEMENT.. I WONDER WHY? ARE THEY NOT CHANGING PANEL AND SENDING YOU THE SAME ONE? JUST MAKE SURE BUDDY..

Is there any way to download the firmware on PC & update it using USB ( the traditional way) ?
Unfortunately, NO.. well there is always a way to hack and flash T.V but it will void your warranty and im sure you don't want to do that.

As your internet source is only thru USB Dongle, i would suggest you to download Connectify software.. this will turn your Windows PC into a Wi-Fi hotspot then connect your T.V to it. Make sure you have a 3G connection with min 500MB - 1GB data plan before you upgrade your firmware. Having said that i highly recommend you to get an Internet connection with WiFi router to enjoy all smart features.

Hope this helps :)

Edit: Can you convert 3d to 2d in these 2 models. I think its useful to have if 3d in the movie sucks :P

yes in The LG u can dont know about the sony...

u will find the option in the 3D setting menu, u need to turn on Normal image view option... that will show the 3d movie in 2d

I'm thinking on the same lines. They might just replace the panel and send it back. I actually don't mind waiting a few days for a new piece . But the answer given by dealer is they are getting fresh stock in 2/3 days time.

Any ideas to know if it's a repaired TV these guys are sending ? Looking for marks on the screws is one way I guess. Who knows may be Lg service and dealer are working hand in glove ;) BTW do you recall seeing any lg stickers on the TV screen when it was opened ?

Congrats buddy.. welcome to LG6910 Club :)
Enjoy your new T.V.

Avoid 04.01.10 update.. its not stable.
Specially they have taken out an option from VIVID mode >> Advanced Control (Greyed out).

Check this LG Smart TVs reportedly log user viewing habits regardless of privacy settings | The Verge

Btw have you noticed the on board recorder doesnt work with Airtel SD DTH even when connected through Composite Input . Strangely recording works on channel 100 which is the airtel demo channel .. Any work arounds ?

Does any on know if the TV remote works with Airtel HD when connected over HDMI ?

Hi windy_rider,

Thanks for sharing link and yes i have read it before.. :)

About recording i am very interested trying too but i have AIRTEL HD DVR.. so no way i could record from tv.. but i can record it from my HD DVR though :ohyeah:

NO.. YOU CANNOT RECORD VIA HDMI INPUT.. T.V TUNER HAS AN INBUILT RECORDING FEATURE WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO RECORD WITH ANALOG CABLE..
T.V TUNER AND HDMI WORK INDEPENDENTLY.

If you have any luck recording.. do share with us.
