Confused between LG 42LA 6910 & Sony 42W 800

@shainz

Dude W800 is a low cost T.V from SONY. I was surprised coz W800 is cheaper than LG & Samsung.. SONY has surprised everyone with this amazing T.V.. now what about people who already brought W800? hmm.. just paying 3k more you get TRILUMINOS DISPLAY.

Could this end the production of W800.. i don't think so.

SMART MOVE BY SONY.

I have recently purchased 42w850 though I also considered Samsung F5500, 6400, 6800 & Panasonic E6 & 42w800 offcourse I did a thorough research on all theses models.
After viewing for 7 days my rating of 42w850 on a scale of 10 (10- Perfect)
PQ- 9.5 (perfect for me)
Sound- 8
3D- 9
Web Experience- 9
Price- 8 (Though I have got the deal with help of a dealer friend for Rs. 72000/-, in market one may get it as low as Rs. 77000/- after bargain)
USB & Movie formats supported- 9
Overall-9.5

I would suggest not to buy W800 as SONY has stopped the production & you will only get the remaining sets.

now my query is weather wireless keyboard can be connected to W850?

Reason for not considering Samsung - Active 3d, Personally tried and I had headache like feeling.

Congrats and thanks for sharing your experience.
Glad you choose W850 over W800 wise buy. Though i recently got my new TV i am curious to see this Model.

Im glad i didn't go for W800 otherwise by now i would be searching for people who wants to buy second hand W800  coz just in 4 months span by paying 3k more we get absolutely stunning visual experience from the same manufacturer.

Hi Shrey7,

Could be but I don't feel w800 is inferior to w850. TRILUMINOS is more of marketing gimmick and the viewing difference is immaterial for the layman eyes.

Because the technologies are ever changing and who knows the TRILUMINOS could be superseded by some other technology in future. However, w850 might be better than w800 but w800 owners don;t repent for their choice and dont sell it in second hand.

End of the day its budget call :). I hope you agree.

Thanks - Siva

Hi Siva,

I agree W800 is good and i don't think TRILUMINOS is marketing gimmick at all.

Triluminos is part of the backlight and not a software algorithm. This year SONY's TRILUMINOS T.V's has some of the best black levels.

May be the only downside that it uses edge LED backlighting rather than a full array setup.

I believe just like X-reality Bravia Engine, TRILUMINOS display will also become more common in all upcoming SONY products.

Here is some explanation about SONY's TRILUMINOS:

Well...it may be discontinued but I do not think u can call w800 a low cost tv...I mean hello...It's just below there flagship series. N there is w700 n w600 n R400 series below it.
If u ask me none of the W series can be considered low cost by any stretch of imagination. Yes, the R4 series is definitely a low cost model by Sony n doesn't even have any of the specs the W series have n i believe is also made by some other company.

@sanchits

Agree with you buddy.. but is it not cheaper than last year's HX 750? im not sure.
Usually SONY T.V's are costlier compared to the other brands.. If LG and Samsung selling mid-range T.V's under 75k there is no way SONY is selling for 73k.. i mean hello.. it got to be at least 80k, isn't that right.

Also, W850 has local dimming vs frame dimming in W800. That makes a huge difference in black levels. W850 is now more equal with HX850, sony's award winning TV of last year.

The W800 is absent in the new festive season ads of Sony!
The end of W800???

Online deals are selling at 78K.
Where did you get this one? Help us to get one more? :clapping: Congrats for your new tv

Purchased LG 42LA6910 last month after Dussehra, I had demoed this TV along with Sony KDL-42W800A. Triluminos display though touted as marketing gimmick does add vividness and warmth to overall picture.

Sony KDL-42W800A (77K) was actually cheaper than LG 42LA6910, personally I did not like the overall look and feel of 42W800A, plus festive offer bundle was of no use to me since I already have BDV-E490 3D Blu-Ray HTS.

I am happy with the overall performance of LG 42LA6910, more surprised by the sound output from 2.1 speakers on this TV, I have skipped using my HTS sometimes while watching movies via USB.

Working on this TV review would be posting soon on my blog.

Weclome to the LA6910 Club. I own a 47" purchased in Oct more or less the same time like you :)

Do check out my review here and share your view as well.

Hi, I'm new here. Am in the process of evaluating various models before buying. I got a chance to see the Sony w850 and LG 6910 side by side.I should the pq after watching 3/4 different times on the Sony was impressive compared to the LG . Only negative I noticed was the reds were a bit oversaturated on the Sony . But the overall pq was really sharp. Features wise I should say the LG has lots more. The recorder functionality is cool to have . plus the other magic remote .

Only other comparable in terms of pq is the Samsung 6 series , more vibrant IMHO and last year's Panasonic 55 inch 3d LED , which was available for 1.5 l lakh :p over my budget limit .. Thinking should I take the plunge ?? ;-)

Edit: Can you convert 3d to 2d in these 2 models. I think its useful to have if 3d in the movie sucks :P

Im in the same confustion again . Features of LG vs 2d PQ . Does the LG 6910 have the dirty screen effect as reported on the 6620 ?

Hi windy_rider,

I Don't agree with Features of LG vs 2d PQ, LG has excellent 2D PQ with some good smart features.

I agree SONY looks little better than LG but let me tell you that's only in showrooms. When i watched LG at home i was amazed. SONY has better contrast but all W850 models are suffering with clouding.

I demoed these two models for many days, been to all showrooms in HYD. Yes there was difference in PQ but not much.
Go for SONY if you see some real difference. I like the way LG manages colors, they look accurate and VIVID.

LG has better screen uniformity.

With LG T.V you can record LIVE T.V only via cable input only not with HDMI so no use. Why would you use analog cable when you have HDTV?
Magic Motion remote is delight to use..

If you are buying T.V based on smart features then it may not be a good idea.
If you want to go with SONY you wont be disappointed but you must sacrifice UI and some smart features but again these smart features can be compensated by hooking up new XBOX or PS4 which will give you tons of smart features or there are many other smart box's available for T.V

Don't know about SONY but i never regretted my decision for taking LG.

Booked a 47'' 6910 & unfortunately it came in with a cracked screen . Possibly transportation damage .May be the TV came in lying flat and might have jumped on a road hump or something .AFAIK these large models shoulld not be layed down flat as there's chance of bending . So looks like I will have to wait 1/2 days more b4 I can get a replacement .

@shrey7 : Is there any way to download the firmware on PC & update it using USB ( the traditional way) ? . My internet connectivity at the moment is only thru USB dongle I checked the LG site but couldn't find a downloadable firmware .

Talking of USB dongle has any one tried using a USB dongle on this model ?

Cheers

I agree with Shrey7's observation. Even I found Sony to be vibrant when I demoed both LG and Sony at the showroom, but I personally do not like the blant UI and overall output I have seen at my brothers place on a Sony LED (Non-3D) it is not very out of the world experience.

I am quiet happy with LG's 2D to 3D conversion and got some 3D blu-rays recently. Watching TRON 3D was stunning, in fact much better than watching it on big screen.
